  1. This is more of a security question and just to be safe. I have my green card and its valid for two years starting two weeks ago. Within those two years is there anything I should be aware of or need to know while its valid. I know this is kind of general but I just want to be safe and know what precautions I should take

    Google, "maintaining permanent resident status".

    Thanks everyone.

I figure thats what this site is for. Why google when we have visa journey. Ill update my profile soon. Thanks again.

  2. Can someone answer this for me before I take a leap off a building. My fiance does not make enough to cover myself and her children so I'm getting another sponsor to fill out the 1-134. Does his I-134 he fills out have to cover myself, her and her three children or just myself (the beneficiary) and anyone dependent on him in his household. Please I need help because this process is driving me insane.

  3. he was asked to leave though. And he left.

Asked to leave by who? Was his visa revoked?

All of these things make a difference - no one can even attempt to help provide any answers without all of the information.

I accepted a voluntary departure I was not deported. My visa was not revoked. I had an attorney attend court to say that i had left and i went to the US consulate in Melbourne where they stamped a form to certify that I had left. I have proof of all this and will answer yes to that question

  4. Just to recap I have recieved packet 3 and am in the process of gathering everything for the interview.

My fiance needs to fill out the 1-134 for support but her income right now will not cover 25% above the poverty line given that she has 3 children. So she needs a cosponsor. My question is do they combine the cosponsor and her current income to equal the required amount or does the cosponsor by themselves need to cover all the dependents.

  5. I am working on Packet 3 and filling out the DS-156 form and on one of the questions I have a violation when I lived in the US. It was working on a student visa and I was asked to leave. We hired an attorney and it was settled in court and I submitted some paperwork to the embassy in Melbourne when I arrived. Does this really hurt my chances of getting approval on the K1 when I answer yes

  6. I'm the benficiary here and I've just recieved the packet of information to set the interview up and gather everything necessary. I want to make sure I don't make any mistakes.

--- They say to fill out the DS230I form and return it to them immediatley. They also send you a notice saying to fill out DS156 online and print those out. Does this mean I fill out the DS230I by hand as I can't seem to find an online version of it.

---It doesn't really say how to set up an appointment with them. How do you do this or is this up to them?

    RumiPoet,

    Congratulations on the Packet3...

The DS230 part 1 is online - check the version they sent to compare.

Here's a link to the electronic DS-156 they refer to: DS-156

And you usually don't set up the appointment. When you send back your packet 3, they will send you the appointment date (usually called Packet 4). =)

Where is the DS230 online I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the response I was also curious on what the chances of rejection are if you had a visa violation in the past. When I lived in the US I ended up having to leave for working on a student visa. It wasn't deportation though I ended up leaving anyway. So if I answer yes to the question on DS-156 am I doomed?

  8. I wanted to know how to get your hands on a police certificate in each country you've stayed in excluding the one you're currently in. My fiance and I have recieved our approval notice (NOA2) and I wanted to know what I needed before I get to the interview stage at the US consulate. Thanks in advance

    Congrats on the NOA2...

Just to clarify..the police certificates are for the beneficiary - but you knew that right?

The good news is, for the US, you'll not need one (can't get one anyway), but I'm not sure what you mean when you say "each country you stayed in 'excluding' the one you're currently in..." what do you mean by this?

Each country is a bit different in exactly where you get them, but essentially you request one from each - if you could elaborate the countries, perhaps someone from each one will pop in... ;)

    p.s.

:time: <--this will help others help you.. =)

Sorry, to clarify I am the benficiary. I've lived in Australia, Kuwait, Grenada and the US since the age of 16. I currently live in Australia so I'll obviously need one from here but the US, Kuwait and Grenada??
