Me and my wife live outside the US, but when I sent in our I-130 and I-130a they rejected it saying that I needed to fill out a I-485. this confused me as my understanding was that the I-485 is only used if you already have already in the US. does anybody know if I really should be filling one these out?

Yes I sent to the lockbox and we are both in Iran, nothing on my paperwork said that I live in the US so this I-485 thing is really confusing me
