It can be very difficult adjusting to a new way of life. I certainly have found differences good and bad in both Countries. I think Canadians are getting ripped off when it comes to the price of gas, food, telephone, and just about everything else. Starting my own business here in the US definitely has been very rewarding. I see everything as a trade off no matter where you live. Meeting the right person and having the right perspective and attitude gets you through the many ups and downs involved in the transition......

A friend of mine traveling with his two young sons into Canada required their birth certificates proving he was their father, a letter of permission from their mother saying she knew they were with him and where they were going, plus the border guard gave her a phone call when they arrived at the border to verify that she had indeed written the letter. Both Canada and the US are members of the Hague Convention to prevent international kidnapping so I expect the US would have similar expectations for children crossing into the US. You may not need everything, but it is good to be prepared, just in case.

Hello all:

Need to make sure I'm not in for any surprises at the border. I have my pernament resident card and Canadian Passport. I am looking to bring my 3 children back from Canada to the US to stay with me for the Summer, during their break. Will be driving as I have some belongings to bring back also I had in storage. My ex-wife is getting their passports completed. They are 14 yrs, 13 and 12yrs old. What do I need when corssing through Customs for everyone ???

I did Uhaul. That way the stuff arrived with me and I knew where it was and if anything was broken it was our fault.

They barely glanced at my list of items that I was bringing and I was not very specific

I packed everything into two suitcases and boarded a plane. Left alot of stuff at my dads to bring back when I get my kids for the summer. Seemed expensive to ship everything down. If you have a place to store it at a friends or family you may want to bring it back as you fly...drive back for visits.....

.....Yeah.....watching TV up here drives me NUTS! Words like pasta, Mario, Yahoo, Mazda, ect. My fiance used to have a cat named Tasha-pronounced Taaaaasha lol.

Everytime I drive up to the drive through window at a Restaurant in Tennesee it has the potential to turn into a nightmare. I can't understand a word sometimes and begin to panic. Vianca laughs at the way I say "out" or "about" (laughing with me)

I am the US citizen. I have been a stay at home mom for 7 years. When I called the IRS and asked, they said I did not need to file. In Canada, I filed to receive the CCTB and UCCB.

Does anyone know how we are to file income tax this year with regard to the US taxes. My AOS is pending and I came to the US in November, married in December. We have been looking over the forms etc but not sure how we are to file and what classification I fall under, if we should add anything under my T-4 from Canada on her US forms etc. I know I am to file my own taxes via Canada however not sure how to proceed on this side of the border.

Not to take any business away from Dr Arnold but if you have all the required vaccinations already listed on the DS-3025 then you already have what you need.... Only if you need to add some vaccinations that you may have given subsequent to the issuance of the DS-3025 will you need this done....

Your right, I just sent in the AOS with the Vacination work sheet as everything already completed, accepted without an problem. The worksheet is all that is needed if you have already completed the medical including the vacinations.

What an feeling, Vianca woke me up the night of the tornados, strong winds outside, major chain lightening coming down and you could hear the Tornado warning siren in the distance. Never heard or seen anything like that before in my life. Has any fellow Canadian VJ members experienced this before. I have been told that due to climate change Clarksville is now considered to be within Tornado alley.

We have Cox as well for Cable/ internet - $135/month but we also have the highest speed available due to our use of the internet, and working from home. We are heavy gamers and have teenagers who also play online games. We have the Sports package on the cable.

Vonage for phone - unlimited long distance, plus a virtual local number for the Canadian friends ($5/month extra)...total there is $40

Verizon Cells - we pay for a family package of 5 - unlimited texting since we found the teenagers practically bled us dry on a per text basis $200/month

Be nice to bundle things together,,,Verizon Fios is coming our way, but they don't combine the cell phones with home intenet/ cable. We like Vonage too much to give it up for anything unless a much better package

Looking to see what other VJ members are paying and advice for phone ( land line) / internet / tv. We have had the charter bundle for months now and it has slowly creeped up in price for the last few months. We just got a bill for $ 190.00 and now are looking to switch to Bell South package with Direct TV Satalite included . It appears it will come out to around $ 120.00 a month which includes taxes however will have to use Skype for calls to Canada to keep the package price down. Our cell phones are through Verison and separate. Charter got rid of the 3 meg high speed internet and raised it to 5 meg increasing the price and stating they no longer offer the 3 meg. I swear it seems all these intro offers are just a scam and before you know it the prices increase. We were considering Vonage as an option so that we could call Canada but not sure....just looking for advice and others experiences with these bundles and pricing.....

my advice on this is , if you have extra cash to give away why not buy some timbits and a great coffee invite everyone from VJ for a day of great visa chat and sweets ,

tawk about everything and anything involved in visa process have a laugh when people type theyr accents ( like me lol )

get all the suport here without loosin a lota cash other then a few timbits

fire your liar ( oops I meen laywer ) we will help you get trough this who needs a liar when ya can have people help you with funny accents

I agree. Waste of time and money. Easy money for lawyers and most of them it appears make a mess of this process and only cause delays and headaches. Recent article in McClains Magazine about lawyers which was a good read.

Now that the shock of the initial setback has worn off and most of the other issues have been dealt with we are to be back on track. The I-601 is being sent today; we needed the cooling down period and hopefully by now the waiting period will not be as I was told months ago. For those wondering if the issues came up between Sharon and I the answer is no the issues were beyond our control but now well within our control.

The 2.8 lb package that was sent directly to Dr. Emilio Gonzales' office seeking their assistance and clarification had been received and signed for many months ago but never replied to. Obviously not a very client oriented group at the top which now gives the reasoning of the way those in the dungeon are working, they have no direction from above.

A letter sent to the USCIS Ombudsman was replied to within a very short period but wasn't of much help as expected since they saw my issue as a legal problem and not within their realm.

Sharon and I are doing well and we are as always together loving each other as best we can with our daily phone calls.

P.S. I still don't drink, they haven't driven me to that point nor will they.

"Trader Joe's" which has a few locations around the US has a LOT of Canadian items you might miss in a larger chain store.

My parents periodically ship me Old Dutch dill pickle chips. For Christmas, Sara bought me a case of C-Plus. I can't live without those things.

Congratulations TennCAN...my husband's case was transferred too and no interview was needed. Took almost 10 months to get his GC in hand (from filing to card in hand) but that's not always the case for everyone.
