  1. Thanks. Do you mean you sent stuff to your spouse or to NVC? I can get an employment letter, so that should not be a problem. The thing that is stumping me is that on the list of items for the apt. it says original I-864. That is what's causing me turmoil. thanks for your help. So the question is, do you think i can send my wife a photocopy of I-864 for her embassy apt. or should I maybe print a new one, fill it out and send her that as an original?

    Thanks,

    Tobias

  2. there was nothing to indicate to me that i should not have sent the original I-864 to NVC. I only have a photocopy of it now. I could print out another, fill it out, one and send that as the original to my wife. Also, I don't have 6 months of pay stubs but I have tax transcripts and W2s from 4 years. If I send those , are copies good enough? how could I hve known this stuff before hand. This is crazy. I don't see why the Embassy wants to make us jump through so many hoops. Please reply if possible.

    Thanks, Tobias

  3. The Embassy seems to require that my wife have with her the original Affidavit of Support that I had sent a couple months ago to NVC. How can I send the original? I made a photocopy of the one I filled out. The original is now at NVC. Is the photocopy good enough? Please let me know if anyone has the answer. It is listed as one of several so-called original documents needed for the visa apointment. I don't get that. It also doesn't say anything about bringing copies of tax forms. Aren't tax forms a great way to show what my income is?

Thank you to whoever can answer these questions.

    Tobias

  4. Hello, thank you for the info. Let me make sure that I got it right -- it's detail, but I want to make sure I get it right:

[Agent name] - in regular order (FN MN-if you included LN)-- just the first letters capitalized. - comes from DS3032

[beneficiary's name] - all capitalized, LN, FN MN

[Petitioner name] - all capitalized, LN, FN MN - comes from forms that petitioner has submitted

    LN=last name, FN=first name, MN=middle name

    Is this correct? Thank you!

  5. [Agent Name}

    123 Main Street

    Anytown, USA 12345

    Example:

    John Doe

    123 Main Street

    New York, NY 12345

I was wondering about this too, since the original template says

    [Agent Name]

    123 Main Street

    Anytown, USA 12345

So we should have the state instead of "USA" (makes sense)

Another thing I'd like to confirm -- I saw on another post many pages back --

on DS 230 coversheet, the names should be LAST, FIRST, MIDDLE? Last name capitalized or regular? Also it should be this way for [Agent Name] above the address also?

    Thanks!

  6. I don't know why I get answers about embassies and how long they take to schedule interviews. I'm NOT asking about embassies or interviews, I'M ASKING ABOUT NVC!!!!

I'm asking about the time between NVC--->embassy.

I'm NOT asking about time between embassy-->interview

I'm also only asking about standard NVC processing, the kind that NVC DOES NOT schedule interviews for.

If someone else reads this thread and starts thinking..."depends on the embassy", please do not respond to (what you think is) my question, but read my questions and all my following explanations and think again.

Thank you for all who tried. I guess this is a question not many people are interested in, so difficult for people to understand what I am actually asking.

  7. Hi, I think some people would be able to help me. I see in some timelines that the case was "forwarded to" the consulate/embassy from NVC or the case "left" NVC (for the consulate). I'm not talking about the time AFTER it gets to the consulate. I'm talking about the time AT NVC between case complete and it leaving for the consulate. I don't think there'll be a huge variability by the consulate (country) here. I see it in some timelines and by having its own thread, I thought maybe I can get more info from those who know. Also, I'm talking about standard NVC processing (those who submit just DS 230 part I and biographic page from the passport to NVC). Thanks!

  8. Hi, thank you for your suggestions, mike&elena!

Even if the list may differ from embassy to embassy, it would be nice to have some idea of what's on the list from the embassies (other than what's on the NVC list, mentioned above). So if anyone have gone to the interview or received the list from your embassy/consulate, if you could let me know what they asked for, that would be great. Maybe they won't differ much afterall. My husband would like to use this "wait" time to start putting things together to send to me (or at least to start thinking about it).

Also anything else that are not required by the embassy, but would be good to bring as a precaution?

    Thanks!

  9. Hi,

our case is on the last part of the NVC process. Hopefully the case will be finished at the NVC soon and we can have our interview. Our case will be standard NVC processing, i.e., that we sent only the part I of DS 230 and the biographic page of the passport.

There is a list of items that the applicant should obtain for the interview, on NVC (dept of state) website, including things such as birth certificate, police record, etc.

My question is, what are some things that people bring to the interview other than what's on this list? For example, I hear about people bringing photos of the wedding or from when they are dating, etc. Would it also be good to have copies of all the forms that we have submitted? Tax return forms from the last 3 years?

If there are things like that, I'd like my husband to start preparing these so he can send me the materials in time for the interview.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

  10. Hi, how long does it take for NVC to send our case to the embassy? I know once it gets to the embassy, theh time it takes to the interview depends on (and varies widely by) the embassy, but I thought maybe time from NVC "case complete" to sending out our case to the embassy, there is some expected time frame (e.g., 2 weeks)? If you know from your experience how long your case took, please let me know. Thank you!

  11. Hi, I remember reading some comments about NVC being overloaded and recently taking longer to process and send out stuff. If you are experiencing that (NVC seems to be taking longer than you expected from older timelines), please comment here! That would help us estimate how long our remaining NVC process would take! As for us, we are waiting for NVC to cash our IV check and to send us DS 230. According to USPS, they received our check on 17th, but they still have not cashed it or entered it into their system. Please let us know your situation!

  12. Hello,

My husband called the automated line at NVC today and got the message that there is some missing info. I know that when they say that it's supposed to mean that they have processed our AOS and the "missing info" is our DS230. However, according to my husband, it did also say that they were going to send a letter to us about the missing info. Do you think it mean that it is not just DS 230 that we're missing, but it is an acutal REF? What does it say if they have processed AOS and have actually sent out our DS 230 form? Would it say so in the recording ("We have sent out the DS 230 form on this date") as well as having missing information?

Stabu, thank you for your work updating the timeline for everybody.

    Here's ours.

    NOA2 5/16/07

Choice of Agent and AOS bill sent out by NVC 06/25/07 (received 07/03/07) -- took a long time because NVC assigned us a case number with a wrong embassy so we had to have that straightened out.

    IV bill received 08/13/07

    DS 230 form still waiting

    James' short cut NOT used.

  13. Hi, nate&nid

I didn't say in my original email, but maybe the unclarity of information in the DOS website (I think can access from BKK embassy website as well) comes from the fact that I'm not a Thai citizen (but currently do live in Thailand). It wasn't clear to me if "resident" meant "citizens" and "non-resident" meant "non-citizens" or just referred to those who lived in Thailand vs. those who do not. The items under "residents" (IDs, household registration info, etc.) seemed only to apply to Thai citizens and I wasn't sure if I would be asked to bring those as well. On the other hand, I didn't know how I would get finger printes at local police here (now I know they take finger prints at the office when I go there), and for non-residents they only mention "required documents" but do not explain what they are. Are they referring to all the same documents that they mention for "residents?" I put up a topic/thread on this before, but no one responded.

One thing about the link on "police clearance certificate" that I mentioned in my original post is that it is clear there that they are referreing to citizens (Thai nationals) and non-citizns (foreign applicants). It is also pretty clear that I only need to bring my passport and a proof that I'm in Thailand legitimately (work permit, etc.). So I hoped that this police clearance certificate was the same as what was needed for the U.S. visa.

  14. I found information from the Dept. of State website, but not enough explanation to be actually helpful.

Then, a Thai friend of mine found this website. It says "plice clearance certificate." It seems like people who want to teach in Thailand need to get this certificate also. Does anybody know if this is same as the police certificate needed for the U.S. visa?

    Thank you!

  15. Hi.

I am a petitioner for my Japanese wife. I have had my I-130 approved and has just recently paid the OAS Bill. I am now expecting the DS-230 bill and Affidavit of Support form. Since I am well above the poverty line in my household, will I be sent something like the I-864EZ instead of the long version? If anyone knows, please tell me.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  16. Hi, I'm trying to estimate how long it would take my case to be all done with NVC, which may not be a very meaningful thing to do, but I cannot help anyway.

I've looked at the NVC timeline thread also. It has been very helpful.

I'm estimating the time it takes by identifying each step (generated--> receive-->send-->NVC receive-->next packet, etc.), assuming it would take 1 week for each step (some will actually be longer, some shorter, but on average) -- not using James' Shortcut.

Then I realized that I'm not sure about some of the steps.

    1. I want to make sure "generated" and "sent" by NVC are the same thing (usually done on the same day)

    2. When we send something back to NVC, if they process something, do they generate the next step on the same day? Should I leave one week between, for example, processing the AOS bill and generating the AOS form?

    3. Also, how long does it take NVC to finish processing the DS 230 (usually arrives later than AOS form) once they've received it (how long between receiving DS 230 and case finishing)?

I tried to write every step that I can think of below. If I missed anything, please let me know. Thanks!

    <<Affidavit of Support thread>>

NVC mail out AOS bill (finished)

    Peittioner receives AOS bill (finished)

Petitioner send back AOS bill (finished)

    NVC Receive AOS bill (finished)

NVC process AOS bill-->NVC Mail AOS form-->Petitioner receive AOS form-->Petitioner send back AOS form-->NVC receive AOS form-->NVC process AOS bill

    <<Beneficiary/agent thread>>

NVC mail out Chocie of Agent form (finished)

Beneficiary email re: Choice of agent (finished)

    NVC Accept choice of agent-->NVC Mail DS230 bill-->Agent Receive DS 230 bill-->Agent Send back DS 230 bill-->NVC Receive DS 230 bill-->NVC Process DS 230 bill-->NVC Mail DS 230 form-->Agent receive DS230 form-->Agent send back DS230 form-->NVC receive DS 230 form-->NVC process DS 230/complete case
