Where are you from and which country requires legal status in the US to issue a tourist visa?

I am from South Africa, the Romanian Embassy requires proof of legal status in the US. Passport has my maiden name and GC has my married name. Has anyone had the same problem and been granted a visa?

Hi all, 

We are planning to travel Europe and I need a visa, my question is, when applying for the visa they seek proof of legal status within the USA, which I have but it is in my married name and my passport is in my maiden name. 

Does anyone have any tips on what to do in this situation? TIA
