  1. don't forget that when the child turns 14, you need a new GC (with full biometrics) regardless of what it says on

    the expiration date.

This is done via form I-90

Thanks for that tidbit. However, in our case, my wife and step-daughter plan on naturalizing next year. I also find that a lovely convenience charging of fees. GC w/ conditions last for two years, so you have to remove conditions only one year before naturalization based on marriage. They'll likely have their 10 year GC for less than year before they naturalize.

  2. Hmm. I'm confused about what's needed for my step-daughter (she's 9). She only got a letter extending the expiration on her green card, my wife got a NOA and appointment time for biometrics and a more official looking letter extending her green card.

We showed up for my wife's appointment with my step-daughter in tow, thinking she would have her biometrics taken, too. Well, they wouldn't take my daughter's since she didn't have an appointment letter. I then made an INFOPASS appointment to talk with an IO, and she stated that since my step-daughter was under 14, she didn't need biometrics, contrary to what is stated on http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=f858d59cb7a5d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Base petition fee plus $80 biometric services fee for all conditional resident applicants. Each conditional resident child listed under Part 5 of this form who is a dependent seeking to remove their conditional status, is required to submit an additional biometric services fee of $80, regardless of age.

What I'm worried about is what if my step-daughter's appointment letter was lost in the mail and since she missed her appointment is considered to have abandoned the green card process?

  3. Well, we got notices for an interview on May 1st, for both my wife and step-daughter. Our due date is May 17th, though, so I hope we don't have to reschedule.

Will it still be possible to get the AP and EAD before the interview, or because we have a pending interview, does that hold off the rest of the processing?

Hey Jeremy! Doug & I are going in for his AOS Interview May 1st as well....I'll look for a pretty pregnant lady then

I don't think the interview has anything to do with the AP/EAD processing though....Doug hasn't received them either, but at least we didn't get RFE's!

That's kind of cool. Missed out by a day in Montreal, but we'll be at the Detroit interview on the same day. I think one of the appointments is at 1:00, and the other at 3:00. What time is Doug's scheduled?

  4. I found this information on pet food today:

    Pet food from Canada

    Question

Can I buy pet food in Canada and bring it into the U.S.?

    Answer

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently relaxed rules for travelers entering the U.S. with pet foods that contain ruminant meat or meat by-products from Canada. This includes pet foods made from cattle, bison, deer, elk, caribou, moose or camels. Pet food containing meat from those animals are now allowed entry in the U.S.

Commercial pet food that lists lamb, sheep or goat in the ingredient list is still prohibited.

Of course. After they threw out the nearly full bag of mine when I brought our cats across.

  5. You say you plan to marry the day after your arrival... have you checked the laws in your state, because some require a waiting period after you apply for the Licence to get married.... also some states do not issue the certificate of marriage on the day you get married, they mail it to you days or weeks later....

Good point on that. There is a three day waiting period in Michigan. But, I went and got the license three days before hand (just needed me and my fiancee's birth certificates) and then got married the day after arrival.

  6. Here are a couple of before pictures of my living room/dining room. I haven't taken the after pictures, yet, though. I'll try to do so soon, so that I can share with you guys. I was really pleased with myself how it came out.

  7. Here's my first post, much like many others.

    Hello, everyone...

I'm just now getting everything together for the I-129F, and I don't think we have time. I'm Jeremy, and I'm the USC, and my fiance and her daughter live in Canada in the city just across the border from me (I can see Canada from my window). We set the wedding date for September 1st, 2007.

If I file for the K-1, and we don't recieve it in time, can we still get married? If that happened, though, she'd have to stay in Canada while we then file for a new K-3, right? All those tolls for the bridge are adding up!

Alternatively, since a Canadian can visit the US for up to six months, should/could she just move in with me anytime this summer, get married, and then file for something after the wedding?

As if wedding plans weren't hectic enough!

  8. Even though you are sending your husband's tax transcripts for the past three years (I did, as well), also send a copy of last years W2. They make it sound like you don't need a W2 if you're sending the tax transcript, but I read over in the AOS forum that someone got an RFE for that. If he's self-employed, then disregard, obviously.

  9. Just out of curiousty, how many of us are looking forward to sleeping on your stomach again? I have the worste time sleeping now and nothing is comfortable at all. In addition, someone parties like a rock star for most of the night. I am going to have a night owl on my hands.

I bought this for my wife for Christmas, and she absolutely loves it. Although, your husband will have to make a bit of room for it if you have a Queen bed.

  10. I'm the husband, but we're expecting in May. Can I hang out here. too?

And congrats on your little bundle! Do you know the gender yet? Have you chosen names?

We could have found out on New Year's Eve when we had the 20 week ultrasound, but we've decided not to find out the gender.

For names so far, we are thinking:

    Boy: Ryan Joseph

    Girl: Kelsey _____
