  1. Due to coronavirus restrictions, my wife is unable to fly back to China to get her birth certificate, divorce document translated and notarized, and her China criminal record. We live in Indonesia (I am US citizen, she Chinese) and she simply cannot fly there. My contract here in Indonesia ends in June, so by then we pretty much have to leave. Timing is somewhat crucial but hampered by the coronavirus.

    My questions are:

    1. Can her sister get her birth certificate (or whatever document qualifies. I have read many posts about this in regards to what to get). Could her sister get it, have it notarized, and mail it to us?

    2. I know it highly unlikely but no harm in asking, could her sister do the same for my wife's criminal record?

    3. Can I have her divorce book (we have with us) translated elsewhere? Like Singapore? I am guessing that this needs to be translated by a certified translator. Does it also need to be notarized?

    4. If we cannot get these last 2 or 3 required civil docs is there any harm in submitting anyway so that we could get going with the medical and consulate appointment?

Of course I imagine in the end we will need to get all of these documents but if we could at least get the medical and appointment out of the way then this might allow for some time to pass and travel restrictions to ease. Messaging the immigration officials has proven fruitless.

Thank you all for any suggestions.

  2. Hello,

So glad to have discovered Visa Journey as a resource. Very helpful.

My wife and I have found ourselves in a situation where we need to try and time our process so that we receive her visa (if approved) no earlier than late January 2020 (since we have 6 months to enter US  date of visa issuance).

On April 20, 2019 we received our first notification to sign up and log in to CEAC from the NVC. My question is how do we go about spacing our submissions so that we will have our interview sometime in late January?

This has been asked before on this forum and there were a lot of good, helpful answers. However, on the one thread it seemed that the couple (sorry forgot exactly who) did not actually end up needing to delay. So wondering if those answers were accurate?

We have not logged in to CEAC yet (as of May 2, 2019). The letter states that we have 1 year before inaction results in dismissing of case.

Any confirmations about which part of the process is best and ok to delay on?

Thank you all for your replies.
