My 10 year green card expires 11/30, which means I cannot apply to renew the green card until 5/30. Without thinking much, I booked an overseas trip from 6/8 to 6/22 (entering back to the U.S. on 6/22). Would it be OK to travel abroad and will I be allowed on the plane and to enter the U.S. with less than 6 months on my current green card? If that is no problem, would it be better to start the renewal process before I leave for the trip (have the application pending while travel) or after I come back from the trip?
