You are given verbal instructions during the ceremony regarding checking the name on the certificate and reporting it immediately before leaving.  But you are also given a very limited number of days after the ceremony in which to report an issue without having a fee.  After that amount of time, you need to file an I-565 form and pay $555 in fees for that.    There are waivers available for the fee if you can prove this was USCIS' mistake rather than yours.    Using Mother or Father's name as middle name is a cultural thing - some cultures use father, some use mother, some use neither.   It's incumbent on you to ensure they do this under the correct middle name is and validate it during your interview, so this seems like you can't prove it's USCIS' mistake.

How long ago was your ceremony?

The ceremony was last January 19. Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.

    • I have a question. I recently became a naturalized citizen however the name on my naturalizations certificate has my mothers maiden last name as my middle name as opposed to my fathers last name since I am already married. I have two given names. At first, I filled the form N-400 wrong I put my first given name, my second given name as my middle name and my last name as my last name so the IO had to change it. He instead put my mothers last name as my middle name instead of my fathers. At first, I thought this was the right way of naming here in the us and its different from our country but when I asked alot of friends, their middle name is their fathers last name not their mothers. May I know if this was an error? And How may I be able to correct this. Thank you so much.
