  1. Hi there,

I am not sure if i'm posting this question in the correct forum but i'm not sure where to go.

I recently just received approval for residency and they have ordered a card for me. My Greencard will have my marriage name on it. As my passport is still under my maiden name, I'm wondering if there will be any issues for me traveling overseas and using my maiden name on my passport to re-enter with my marriage name on my greencard.

Has this happened to anyone? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jo

  2. Hey everyone, i am currently trying to put together all my documents for filing AOS. I entered US on a K-1 visa. Just wondering what kind of medical information i need to submit? From reading the forums, i am getting confused. I have with me a copy of the medical form that i used to get my K-1 visa (form DS3025). Do i just send in this form along with my I-485 or do i need to have a civil surgeon complete a form I-693A for me??

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jo

  3. Thanks Rings, thanks Kath! Kath, i am looking to move in October 2007. Just wondering, when you were applying for AOS, what information did your husband have to send in for the affidavit of support? Did he have to send in a letter from his employer as we had to do for K-1? I'm just wondering as my fiance wants to quit his job soon and i told him not too in case he needs evidence for when i am changing my status... especially since he was here in Melbourne till Nov 06 for 4 years and may not have a more current tax return...

    Thanks again! :)

  4. hi everyone,

Just a quick question - i went to the travel agent to book my ticket but was informed that i am not allowed to book a one way ticket. Can anyone confirm that IT IS OKAY to book a one way? I am on a K-1 visa.

    Thanks

    Jo

  5. Hi Everyone, just a quick question - i read somewhere in visajourney that the Sydney Consulate requires a 2nd Affidavit of Support form to be completed. Is this true? If so, where can i go to find it?

    Thanks

    Jo

  6. Hi Jess,

Thanks for your advise! I rescheduled my interview to the 30th of May as well. Like Seren, i thought we will have a month's notice and then panicked when it was in two weeks.

For others who need to reschedule, all you have to do is email them and they respond pretty fast.

    Thanks!

    Jo

  7. Hi Everyone,

I am a bit panicked at the moment. I just received the letter with my interview date for 11 May (Friday). However, my medical check and blood test is not to be done until 1 May - the earliest i could get it and i booked it 3 weeks ago. Will i get my blood test results too late??

Also, if its cutting it too close, how easy is it to change interview dates?

    Please help

    Thanks

    Jo

  8. Hi Kath

Yeah i received my pack the day after Easter so i was very relieved. I was worried it had gotten lost somewhere in between but its all good. I just sent off the forms and am now keeping my fingers crossed that the interview date wont be too long down the track but at the same time that i will get everything i need together before the interview date.

I will definately do my blood test before my appointment then - it makes more sense but i'm very afraid of needles  . I think the secretary was one stressed out woman when i went in to make an appointment!! I hope my appointment wont be changed. I have it booked for the 2nd of May and haven't had a phone call YET. Touchwood!!

Btw, my nickname is JLTAN but call me Jo.

    Jo

  9. Hi everyone,

Paul and tamzo, a big CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I think you had a few in here wondering what had happened to you guys!!!

Seren, I am also going to Dr Popen i cant spell his name... haha. The office is on bourke street which turns out to be very convenient for me as its just across the road from my office!! :) Your fiance should have gotten a letter from the secretary?? She gave me a letter when i went in to book an appoinment which had what i needed to bring with me and how much for everything. What Kath has said is spot on but if you want me to quote the letter i'll be more than happy to. Just let me know. One thing is that i asked whether i can get my blood tests somewhere else but she said that it will be too confusing and that i should just do it with them AFTER my appointment just to be on the safe side with paperwork. What is your fiance doing about that? Kath, do you agree?

  10. Ok, this is probably a stupid question but where do you go to get your I-134 notarised?

    Thanks

    jltan100

By a notary public - can find them in the yellow pages - any bank can do this for you - usually for free if you have an account with them. (otherwise it's just a small fee - a few dollars usually)

Do not sign this portion until you do so in front of a notary...(that's what they are notarizing, the fact they saw you sign that document)

    Thanks guys. Much appreciated! :)

  11. hi ya itan

i did a dhl search to see if the embassey has received your with you saying it was sent to sydney on the 26th there were 2 results both which arrived on the 29th march...

suprisingly enough i also found in total 5 applications being sent to sydney...that is amazing its the most i have seen sent to sydney lol ..wonders who elses they are and if they are on vj....

and mine took 11 days to receive the packet 3 mate...look at some of the other aussie timelines to see how long others took...

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL..ENJOY THE TIME YOU HAVE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES...STAY SAFE!!!!!

    TAKE CARE

    KATH

Thats Amazing Kath - how did you do that??? Track via DHL that is without any reference numbers??? I looked up some of the other's timelines and i think i am still okay. Just a bit anxious!!

  12. HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!

I am currently waiting for packet 3. How long did people wait before calling up to ask? NVC informed us that they sent our file to Sydney on the 26th of March and i have still not received anything. Am i being too impatient?? What information do they need from us if we were to call up?

    Thanks! :)

  13. oops P.S I also will be heading to Masachusetts not far from Boston

Where I will be living with my Lovely Beautiful Wifee Cheryl - NorthernGirl :luv: .

    Cheers

    Paul :hehe:

Thanks Paul and girlfrmoz for all the police check info. I will definately find it helpful!! Paul, i will fill that form in tonight.

Elle, correct me if i'm wrong but you might want to hold off getting your licence here. I am not 100% sure but i have a feeling you will have to re-sit the whole thing once you get to the US again so no point doing it twice. I dont think our licence is recognised over there. The reason why i say that is because my cousin is from Canada and she couldn't drive in Boston when she moved.

  14. Ok regarding your NATIONAL POLICE CHECK & FINGERPRINTS,

    remember to take $$$$ Cash,

as they do not have ATM'S in their lobbies lol.

let me know what state you are in and I will able to supply,

the pdf for you to fill out and print out to take to police station.

I hope this helps you and anyone else that needs it.

    Cheers

    Paul B)

Paul, i didn't know that there was a form we had to fill in? I thought that any forms i need to fill in i will get there. I am in Victoria. That would be great if you could send me form!! Thanks a lot!!

Are you all ready for your interview? You must be excited but nervous at the same time. Where will be you be based in US? I will be going to Boston

  15. Good luck for your interview Hamster... i cant wait until its my turn!! :)

Also, i have made a time for my police check for this tuesday even though i'm still waiting for my packet 3. Is that okay? I read somewhere that some countries wont allow you to do the police check unless you have the letter from the consulate.

    Thanks

    Jo

  16. Hey how are old are you Jltan? There were instructions that came with the packet but I can't tell you too much detail about them, because I'm not the one that's actually in possession of them. I wish I was though, I'm such a control freak haha!

I am 26 Serendipitous. I think your age determines the type of vaccinations you need right? I think i read that somewhere the other day!!

  17. Welcome Jo!!

My soon to be hubby is from Melbourne as well. I've visited for a total of 9 months so far, and I fell in love with it! I hope you the best on your visa journey. We can definitely try to answer questions you may have through the process. I know I've asked a bunch and everyone was very helpful. :)

    Hi Jo,

Welcome to the Aussie Forum! Everyone is great in here, very supportive so feel free to ask if you need any information. :) Btw I used to live in Boronia not far from you. Am living in Canberra with my parents now until I go in April!!! Yay!! :D

Both yours and Pris's stories of how you met are lovely. It's funny how things happen, I love hearing how couples have met on here.

    Cheers

    Lyndel

Lyndel!! My soon to be hubby lives in boronia!! I use to walk around there all the time. When everyone was at work, I use to go to Knox and hang out at the Coffee Club! I love that place. Especially their mochas. heheh. Their food was especially good too. He probably lives about 3 blocks from the train station in Boronia. That's so freaky how the world seems so small these sorta details are so cool, realize how close knit everyone in this world really is.

Aww you didn't comment on my details of meeting haha (just kidding!). Mine wasn't that great anyways, it was all online. :P

Did that one girl decide to buy your car? She seemed to be in love with it when you described how she was when she saw it. I hope she took that burden off of you one less thing for you to worry about before moving over!

I bet you're tons excited huh? About two weeks left isn't it?

    Lynn

    Hi Seren

Nice to meet you! Haha, its getting very weird in here. I know knox very well as i still hang out there!! In fact, i was just there last night having coffee with my girlfriends. It is definately a small world! I used to go to school in Boronia!

Sounds like you are a lot further down the process than i am. I would be interested to see what you find out about the checklist and medicals etc. I was under the impression that we have plenty of time to get the police checks and medicals as we only have to bring them in when we go for the interview? But i could very well be wrong. Were there any instructions that came with packet 3??

I had a look last night at some of the forms that come with packet 3 and it looks pretty straightforward to fill in and i can do it pretty quickly. It will only take longer if i need my fiance to fill in the I-134 support form. Do you know if i need to send that in first before the interview?

Kath, i think this form will be easier for me as i have only lived in 3 places since i was 16!!! :)

  18. Hi Jo,

Welcome to the Aussie Forum! Everyone is great in here, very supportive so feel free to ask if you need any information. :) Btw I used to live in Boronia not far from you. Am living in Canberra with my parents now until I go in April!!! Yay!! :D

The Police Certificate can take up to 3 weeks to process and in some states (like mine ACT) it can also take about 3 weeks to get an appointment for finger printing, so that's 6 weeks in total. Well that's how long mine took. The medical only took about 2 weeks from the time I had my appointment to when I had the report in my hands.

Both yours and Pris's stories of how you met are lovely. It's funny how things happen, I love hearing how couples have met on here.

    Cheers

    Lyndel

Thanks Girlfrmoz! Thanks for letting me know about the police certificate. I will call up soon and make an appointment. I am wondering whether i should wait until i know that NVC has approved it and sent it to Sydney first though? I'll see. I called them last night to find out whether they have it yet but was told they are busy and to try again. I emailed them too so hopefully they will respond soon.

  19. Hi there,

Can someone advise me how they found out whether or not NVC has received their package? I just tried calling them on 603 334 0700 and i followed prompts to speak to operator and it says its busy and to try again. Has that happened to others before? I just emailed them and i'm hoping to hear back from them. Is the number you need the EAC xxxx receipt number?

    Thanks! :innocent:

keep calling u have to talk to operator, some folks have luck calling before 8am and after 6pm. the automated system has no info for k-1. its hard to get thru. do email NVC but it may take a few days 4 them to get back to u. good luck!

Thanks Safitu!! I'll keep trying. I'm probably a bit too early to inquire anyway!

  21. Welcome :) Which part of Melbourne are you from? I'm a Melbournian also (Elwood), but I'm going for permanant residency- CR-1/IR-1. I can tell you tho that getting the fingerprint police check is very easy; you just ring for an appointment (check the vicpolice website for that) at the Flinders Street address - World Trade Centre really and it gets sent to you about two weeks later max and $120 later.

People here will tell you where to find which vaccinations you need, I'm actually doing that at the moment and I'm not sure where I've put it or found it to be honest, so I will be reading along to make sure.

Welcome and feel free to share how you met etc....:)

Hi Poi_n_J, nice to meet you! Thanks for the info on the police check. I will keep it in mind as I plan out my time before interview. Hopefully not too long till then!!

I'm from the east side of Melbourne (Rowville). I dont think i've been to Elwood before but i've certainly heard of it.

I met my fiance 3 years and 3 months ago now. We both happened to be on the same contiki tour in New Zealand and thats how we met. He was based in Sydney at the time and so we travelled to and from to see each other for the first 2 years of our relationsip. I guess you could say we are pros now at long distance. He moved to Melbourne in our third year together but unfortunately due to home sickness and his visa expiring, he had to go back to the states - hence why we are doing this. We could have tied the knot earlier but i guess we wanted to make sure this is what we both want and the best way of doing it is to be apart for a bit. Its hard when you are both from two different parts of the world. I'm sure everyone here appreciates that. The good thing is that i went to Boston (where he is) for a week during Christmas just passed and i helped him clean our future apartment together and helped pick out furniture. It makes it easier knowing where you will be living etc.

I am very new to this site so i hope everyone will share their experiences with me - that is, how you all met, what kinds of visas you are all going for and the ups and downs of this journey.

On the lighter note - for those that are already in USA, do they sell Milo there?? haha.

    Jo
