  1. Hello all!

Firstly, thank you so much to everybody on this forum who helped guide me through this tedious process with extreme complications throughout. Luckily those hurdles were met with persistence and sheer luck mostly based on what I learned on here and other forums.

    My question is as follow,

My fiancé will be entering the US later this month and we want to get married mid December. On the California website it says she needs a valid drivers license or ID. Would we have to get either of these before we get married? Or can she even be issued these without being a resident/citizen? I hope that we can. I’m willing to go to the DMV with her to get her ID but what would she need? I’m assuming a birth certificate and an ID, maybe a social security card?

That brings me to my second question.

Can I possibly get the social security card for her after we are married? So that we don’t have to go back and change her name, the office is most often congested and if possible I’d rather just have her obtain her card after her last name is changed.

Thank you all once again for your help! And with this new knowledge I shall remain active as my case was quite unique and hopefully I can be of help to someone in the future who went through a similar case.

  2. Hello all my fiancé And I recently finished everything necessary for the checklist. When we paid the fee and tried setting up the appointment it stated that there aren’t any available, this is for the embassy in Stockholm. I was wondering how often they update the page and how far apart is the time between setting the interview up and the interview itself? I keep refreshing the page and now instead of giving me the no appointments available it just tell stories me that I’m reaching the max amount of views on that page. Home stretch here and this is very frustrating as our NOA2 expires on the 15th of September. Any help is appreciated thank you.

  3. Also, for the affidavit of support it shows for supporting documents you need a letter from your employer, bank statements etc. is this really necessary? I know it’s to prove stability but my dad doesn’t feel comifortable asking for a note from his boss and we did provide 3 years of tax transcripts, wouldn’t that be enough proof of stable income? Thanks

  4. Hello all, this is going to be a long question but hopefully I can get it sorted.

basically I am a college student and my fiancé and I are currently on the interview stage. As a result of me being in college I can only work part time and Barely make about 15k a year. Not nearly enough. I live with my parents and 2 other siblings. My father makes 41k and my mother makes 20k. Sorry if this is seeming like a math problem.

my dad agreed to be a co sponsor and fill out his own i134 affidavit of support but my problem lies in the fact that on his tax return transcripts from 2016-18 it shows that my sister is still a dependent of his (she has since moved out but the 2019 taxes haven’t been filed obvi.) on his I 134 we wrote her down as a dependent even though she has since moved out so it boosts our required income to 39,000, since he makes 100% even with that information how should I go about doing this? I know that we’d have to provide evidence that we can meet 125% so I took the route of getting my mother and myself to file two form i184a contract between household and sponsor which basically meens since we all live together and my fiancé will be living here, atleast for a few months until she gets her work permit, that we can utilize the income of household members to meet the 125%, has anybody tried this? Or is it absolutely a must at the interview for the co sponsor to be making exactly the 125%? If so how would we update the consulate on the situation? Should my fiancé mention my sister won’t be a dependent next year? She hasn’t been living with us for all of 2018 so far. I hope you all can help me, since some of you have been through it maybe you can offer guidance? Has anybody only met 100% with one co sponsor at the time of the interview with evidence they can meet the full 125%. I’m worried this is the only reason she may be denied. Any help would be appreciated.

If it’s of any help. She is from Sweden so I heard co sponsors are allowed.

This doesn't make sense: she was born in Iraq but hasn’t been a citizen of Sweden since she was 8 years old

Also the embassy will extend the NOA2 so don't worry about the time.

The Stockholm embassy is really one of the easiest ones out there.

Why would she banned to come back just because someone tried to get her birth certificate from the hospital? You sure her parents don't have that?

If you can't get what they ask for then you will just have to follow their guidance for the hardship. Nothing else you can do. Not their fault she can't provide what they are asking for.

Sorry what I meant to say was she has been*

and thats what she told me, Iraq is a complicated place at the moment with literally no government, the reciprocity schedule on the department of states site which the Swedish embassy uses is also outdated. Her parents don’t even remember receiving a birth certificate to begin with.

  6. Hello all,

as as always I appreciate this forums help for everything they’ve done to make this process as smooth as possible.

    my question is as follows:

this passed January I filed my fiancé’s k1 visa and we received our NOA2 in May it expires September’s 15th

she was born in Iraq but hasn’t been a citizen of Sweden since she was 8 years old. The embassy in Stockholm sent us the checklist and they stated that she needs to provide 3 documents of which unfortunately she only has 1. They want her documents from Iraq even though she technically hasn’t been there since she was a child. They want her birth certificate, her ID(which she has) and her nationality certificate(she has but is outdated). To my knowledge they want all 3 forms but they all offer the same info, place of birth, parents names, and so on.

all the times I’ve tried contacting the US Stockholm embassy they’ve been no help! They’ve told me that if she’s cannot get the documents that I should have her “document the hardship” how would I do this? Has anybody been accepted this way? I bet not. If anybody knows of such a case please let me know. I’m losing hope because we tried to get her birth certificate two ways. The Iraqi embassy was no help and they rudely insulted her for wanting to move to America, as well as her family friend in Iraq who tried obtaining the certificate for her and was unable to even after he paid the equivalent of $200 USD to the hospital she was born in. Now apparently he says my fiancé is banned from ever entering Iraq again. Which is the only way to even get her certificate let alone how dangerous and out of the question that would be.

My point is there is literally no way we can get her birth certificates from Iraq, why won’t they take her equivilant

certofocate from Sweden which also shows the same information? If she’s a Swedish citizen I’d hope that’s be the case but it’s not.

somebody please help me and sorry for my rant. We are about ready to give up and throw away all the money and effort we put into this. It’s actually more

    heartbreaking than it seems.

What do you mean?  If they are asking for a copy of her BC and delaying the interview for that, you do have that time, as you really have no choice but to jump through hoops to give them what they want.

Sorry for the late response, I was at work. Ignore we received our NOA2 in May and it says it expires on September is that how long we have to set the interview up? How long do we have between receiving the email and setting the interview is it more or less than that? The thing is my fiancé called and she was told the process could take months. It’s realky stressful that we got so far and my fiancé doesn’t have something as crucial as a birth certificate in hand, she has a passport and an Iraqi ID shouldn’t that suffice? Apparently not,  we emailed the embassy and they said that if she couldn’t get the BC she had to write about it as a hardship, I doubt this would get her approved, why pay the $250 fee if we won’t even get approved. Sad and frustrated rn, put in the effort and paid and waited so long.

If you just received your NOA2, you still have several months to go in the journey.   Birth certificates are required documents

My mistake we received the NOA2 a month ago, what I meant to say is that we have received the email to set up the interview appointment. My question about the birth certificate it’s hard to find an answer to, but as to my other question maybe you can assist me? Can I submit changes to my I 129f petition at the interview? I misspelled her middle name aswell as the city she was born in.

  9. Hello all,

im writing this out of desperation with two questions to ask, my fiancé and I just received our NOA2 and she can no set up her interview. On the email we received it states that she needs an original birth certificate from her birth country(Iraq) she doesn’t have it and she notified the Iraqi embassy to ask for one and they said it would take weeks to months, we don’t have that time and she is a citizen of Sweden now. Would there be a way around this? Can we bring her Iraqi passport with translations to the interview or anything else? My second question is in regards to fixing mistakes we just now caught on our petition(129f) I spelt her middle name wrong as well as got her city of birth wrong. Can this still be fixed somehow? Do I have to call the embassy or should I have my fiancé bring an updated version to the interview? Any help is appreciated and thank you all.

  10. I did the math and the only way we would be able to meet the 100% requirement is if both of my parents submitted their income. They make $60k about together. I didn’t know you couldn’t combine them.. I thought that was the point... solely they wouldn’t make enough to support the 6 dependents plus her... I think they file taxes jointly.. so if my father was to file as co sponsor can he use both of their incomes? I don’t understand

  11. I am in the process of filling out a K-1 visa for the love of my life. She is a Swedish citizen and we have been with each other for 2 years now aswell as have met twice for a few weeks since then. My concern is the following and I need advice from people who have been through it aswell as people who can help me in my situation

    1. I am a university student graduating next year, as a result I cannot work full time so I am living with my parents while working part time making about $11k a year and have $10k saved. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment in California and there is 6 of us in here, siblings all above 18... I know it’s harsh but I’d rather not explain this situation. Is there an overcrowded rule I need to follow? Like in the UK? Will the USCIS not see this as proper accommodation.. is this even asked in the interview?

    2. Since I’m not making enough money what are the odds of my girl even being approved for the interview? I’m a cashier and I live with my parents.. sad.

    3. If she does get interviewed would filing 2 affidavits of support be enough? My parents and I both would meet the 125% threshold. If we all filed affidavits. If the forms were present at the interview would it increase our chances? Has anybody actually been approved with this method? Of multiple joint sponsors?

Thank you all. My girlfriend knows the situation and we’ve talked it over and I know it will only be temporary that’s why I’m saving to move out of this expensive state. I just hope that for our timelines sake she can succefully come into the country. Please any advice will be appreciated. Do you think I have a positive shot? I don’t want to just throw away the $535 application fee... I need the money as you can see.
