Got 10 yr green card in the mail today! Yay! It took less time then I expected.

Leaving in 2 days for a 2 week visit to Canada. I am happy I won't have to deal with expired GC and extension letter. Woooohooo! Done with USCIS for a little while.

Try another DMV office and maybe try speaking to a supervisor. I live in a State that is one of the hardest on illegal immigration (Oklahoma) and I just renewed mine on thursday with expired GC and extension letter (I-797). The examiner actually knew what he was talking about because as I was explaining my situation to him, before I even said anything about the letter he asked me "well do you have your I-797 that extends your status?". I was shocked because I live in the middle of nowhere and was expecting a lot of problems since I didn't think the examiner would be familiar with this type of situation.

If all else fails, make an infopass appointment and get a stamp.

WOW that was a fast one! CONGRATS!!

Gosh people can be SO judgmental without even knowing what is REALLY going on! It is easy to call someone a deadbeat dad when you don't know the details of the case.

My husband was in a very similar situation as az110965 and I was here to witness it, so I know it's the truth. My stepson's mom finally moved out of her mother's house and decided that the arrangement she had with my DH wasn't cutting it anymore and she wanted back child support for $7000. He did not owe her that money. We had to take the whole thing to Court where the judge finally agreed that she wasn't owed that money and actually told her that she was money hungry and you can't make an agreement with someone and then come back on it as "pay-back" (won't get into the whole story but had to do with custody battle). Anyways, it took months to get it all straightened out and he got some money garnished that shouldn't have been while waiting for the court date. He didn't have a passport at the time, but if he had, he would've been on the list.

So yeah don't be so quick to judge. Sometimes things are not as they seem.

Can anyone tell me about how long it took for them to receive their new card after they got approved?

The reason why I am asking is because I have to renew my driver's license. If I do it with my conditional card and the extension letter, they will only renew my license until the expiration of the extension letter, which is September. If I wait for the new card, they will give it to me for the normal lenght of time of the license.

I am leaving for a visit to Canada on the 9th and I want to have my license so I can drive while up there. I'm thinking I probably won't get it before I leave, but I just thought I would ask.

After the fiasco of the cancelled interview on the 21st, I was really surprised that things moved so fast! And VERY happy that I didn't need an interview after all. I actually double-checked where the e-mail was coming from to make sure it wasn't an April Fools joke!!!

Time for the happy dance!

I was actually coming from SouthEastern Oklahoma, so I had to pay the turnpike fee on the Indian Nation turnpike, so yeah a lot of time AND money wasted...and a lot of frustration added!!

So today, we went to our interview and this is how our day went.

We drove 3 hours to OKC to be told upon arrival that all interviews had been cancelled for the day! WHAT??? So the security guard says "well I see you are coming from pretty far away, let me see what I can do". So he comes back and says he gave the interview letter to a supervisor and to go sit down and wait. We wait for about 15 minutes and a lady comes out to talk to us.

She told us that they didn't have anyone to conduct the interview today and that even if they did, the Service Center has not forwarded my file to them so they have nothing to look at! WHAT???? She said we were the fourth couple to get turned around that day, but at least the other 3 were given new interview dates. As for me, there was no new interview date scheduled for me when they checked in the system so I had to go home and wait!

She also said she was a little confused because my file was transfered to CSC in October, but TSC is the center that scheduled an interview for me. WHAT??? They are not even the ones working on my case but they schedule me for an interview?? That makes absolutely no sense. So basically, it seems TSC scheduled the interview for some unknown reason, but CSC was not advised of this so they never forwarded the file!!! I am so frustrated right now I could just scream!

Anyone have anything to add?

I just answered my own question! LOL Apparently, it is normal for them to have 2 different numbers...how weird. Shouldn't the online status say that I have been called in for an interview? I would think that it should, but hey just my opinion!

I was just looking at my paperwork and I noticed something that left me a little confused. The receipt numbers don't match on the papers USCIS sent me! The I-767 and the Interview notice have the same receipt number, but the ASC appointement letter has a different "application number".

Now if I enter the case # from the I-767 on the USCIS website, it says they can't find my case. If I enter the application number from the ASC letter, I get the standard "received and pending" message. WHAT THE HECK???

Is it possible that they somehow assigned 2 numbers to me and it is causing confusion? If you remember my case, I had never received my ASC letter so I called and got a new one sent to me. Do you think maybe they are requesting an interview because according to them I didn't go to my initial ASC appointement, without realizing that I have one coming up, but under another application number? I'm just confused as to what is going on. I will call the misinformation line tomorrow, but I don't have really high hopes of getting a useful answer so I thought I would ask what you guys think?

We are getting ready for our interview and I have a question. I am gathering the originals of everything I have sent and I will add our daughter's BC (She was born after we filed).

My question is about DH's will. DH has a will, but I am not the beneficiary. We have no assets aside from the car which is in my name. The beneficiaries are actually the kids with myself as the executor. I am however the sole beneficiary of his life insurance which is, I think, a lot more important. LOL Do you think it would help us to take a copy of his will (since I am the executor) or do you think it would hurt the case (since I am not the beneficiary)?

Any opinions? I am kinda torn on that one. Thanks in advance.

They give you the 1 year stamp so that you can travel while you are waiting for your green card in the mail. Since your card is not expired, that's all you need. No additionnal stamp required. Have a nice trip!

Nah James, nothing dark and weird here. Just a really straight forward case so I've got to believe that it's a random thing...the other option is for me to believe that they like wasting their time! Now isn't THAT a novel idea! As for the kids, I think I will bring them because at AOS, the officer asked us how come our son wasn't with us when she saw his BC. Nevermind that the letter said NOT to bring young children!!! Anyways, I'm taking them this time. And no need for prune juice here, my little princess seems for some reason to always have EXPLOSIVE diapers at the worse possible time! LOL

And if they thought the docs I sent were insufficient, wouldn't they have RFE'd me before requiring an interview?

OK, I am trying to breathe. I have nothing to hide so I need to quit stressing out!

The only thing that's still worrying me is the passport issue. There's not enough time to get a new one.

Spiderette - Passports are not needed at land crossings until 2009. What is now needed is proof of citizenship (Birth Certificate works) and picture ID (I have a military ID) so I will be OK. Before Jan. 31 2008, some people could cross the border only on oral declaration which is what was abolished.

Well we were all ready to go for my biometrics next week and what do I find in the mail this morning? An interview notice for 3/21. My biometrics aren't even done yet (3/12)! The only good things about it is that it is before my planned trip to Canada on 4/9 and before DH leaves for pre-deployment training.

A couple of questions:

- Do you think we should bring our kids with us?

- Also, it says to bring my passport, but my passport is expired. I was going to get it renewed during my visit to Canada. We are crossing at a land border crossing so I will not need a passport. So what do I do? There's definitely not enough time to get one now.

-Do they typically approve or deny a case right then and there at the interview?

I am so stressed out now! Definitely NOT a good b-day present!

Just FYI, the flags are the flags of all the states in the USA. I thought it was pretty cool when I received it too!

While I agree that having children does not absolutely prove anything, you will have to agree that MOST married women do not have a child that is not their husband's. Some do of course, but it is far from being the majority. And on a lighter note, anyone who saw my kids next to their daddy would NEVER doubt that he is the daddy! You would swear he made them by himself! LOL

I think the point is that having children is such a strong peice of evidence because it effectively ties you to the other person for quite a long time and if you were only after immigration benefits, that is probably not something you would do. While people who get divorced can go their seperate way and never have any contact again, couples who have kids are a different matter. Yes of course, it happens that a parent abandons the child, but it is not the rule. In most cases, both parents will have to deal with each other AT LEAST until the child is 18 years old.

It does not make a childless marriage any less "real", it just means that it is EASIER to prove you didn't get married just for immigration benefits if you DO have them, with less additional evidence to prove it. Nobody said that it makes it faster to get an approval, only that when you do have children you need less of the rest of the evidence.

I think some people are just a little bit too touchy sometimes. All James meant as far as I can see is that children are VERY strong evidence that the marriage was not entered into for the purpose of circumventing immigration laws. I know one thing, if I was only after a green card and didn't love my husband, I sure wouldn't be having his children!

And for those who are trying to have kids and are having a hard time, trust me, I am not being insensitive. DH and I have lost 2 babies before having our son and another one before having our daughter. So yeah, I have been there and I feel your pain. That being said, I was not at all offended by the comment James made. I know first hand how it feels to want children and not seem to be able to so Good Luck to those of you who are trying and I hope it happens for you really soon.

Thanks for your answers. I guess if they ask for some more, I could always send them our daughter's Birth Certificate. She was born AFTER we sent the I-751. I think that would probably do it! Hopefully you are right James, I figured what I sent was plenty and touched pretty much all areas of what they required.

I just read the posts about the people who got RFE'd and it seems to me like they sent more stuff then I did.

Here is what I sent:

Copy of GC

Copy of military dependant ID

Copy of our son's Birth Certificate

Copy of car insurance with both names

Copy of last 2 lease agreements in both names

Copy of Power of attorney DH gave me

Copy of DH's life insurance showing me as sole beneficiary

Copy of my life insurance with DH as beneficiary

Copy of last 3 years tax transcripts

Think it's enough? I sure hope so!

I will apply for citizenship just as soon as I can. It does open more doors as far as employment goes (can work for the gov.) and it will allow me to vote which is something I think is important. If I am going to pay taxes in a country, I want to have a say in how my taxes are spent. Also, I want to be completely done with USCIS FOREVER! The only way to do that is to become a citizen. So yes I will be a dual Canadian/American citizen just like my kids already are...lucky little squirts! LOL
