  1. Hi! After 1 year of AP (family immigration case) since last interview and 3 submissions of medicals since the beginning, we got the call from embassy to take oath tomorrow on 14th feb. The tricky part is that our medicals are expiring on 20th feb. When embassy called to schedule a time for oath, they told us we will have to fly before 20th feb. Our interview/oath is tomorrow and im worried if embassy will be able to return our passports before 20th in order for us to fly (of course in case everything goes well and they issue us visa) my question is what questions should i ask the consular tomorrow to make sure they know how pertinent it is for us to fly by 20th.  anything we should be prepared for? can embassy stamp visa and give you passports right away during the interview day?

my brother lives in usa on a F-1 student visa since he goes to college. He especially came to pakistan for the oath interview. We are worried that if embassy cancels his student visa to issue the new immigration visa and then they send us passports later than 20 th feb ( when our medicals expire), he will not be able to fly back.

interesting. So your case may be different. Are you travelling to USA? IF they havent requested your passport yet, it might mean something different.

If you are travelling to USA for a job opportunity that you have won already and have a valid visa, why wouldnt you be allowed to travel? I would consult a lawyer in your circumstance instead of relying on people on this forum for input because your travel seems to be dependent on your career and i would hate for you to trust the word of someone like me who isnt a lawyer.

Im not worried about not being able to travel. I'm wondering if i travel now, wuld that affect my AP like would it stay longer in AP because i travelled. Im in a tricky situation where If i dont travel soon my job will be gone and ill be only relying my sponsorship visa which im not sure when is gonna come in. do you think second medical means, they are ready to issue visa?

I would wait if this was their second medical request and they have your passport in hand. You will have to request passport back for international travel.

At the end of the day, it all falls in your lap. You can ask this yourself. Would you be able to wait for up-to 45 days or rather have needs to travel due to reasons beyond the scope of this topic.

Appreciate your reply. They dont have my passport although they have my family's passports. I went to a college in USA and have a job lined up through work authorizaton that is granted to internstionl students. If this this takes too long and they havent called my passport yet, I might miss on the job opportunity

Average time i have seen per the threads here is that it may take the embassy anywhere from 2 weeks to 45 days but this is just a figure based on what i have observed. I wouldn't say it to be a realistic value to be dependent on as it could vary from case to case.  So relax and see what happens in the next few weeks :).

Can i travel during the wait without any repercussions?

  7. My mother's brother is our petitioner for family immigration who is a US citizen. We interviewed at the Islamabad embassy in December of 2018. A week after the interview, they send an email asking me to fill DS 5535 for myself. They only asked me to fill up the form although I have been in USA for a while now. Now I am already in US since 2015 on F-1 visa. I graduated last month and now going to be working here in USA on OPT card.
There has been a few updates on our case since interview but nothing substantial. Our medical has expired last month too. I have following questions:

Now since I am not in college anymore and will be starting working, will i not be considered a dependent child and removed from getting visa through my mom's case? Should I enroll in Masters to get into school again?
Should I ask embassy if my parents visa is approved they should send their passports back while I am undergoing Administrative processing?
Anyone who interviewed in Dec in Islamabad got their visa recently? Any advice?

Thanks for all your help in advance.
