Do you  mean the online application? It came up for my husband also, who has a deceased son who was over 18 at the time of his death. I assumed it was an automatic alert and if it applied to you then you would upload evidence, and if not, you wouldn't.

Thank you. Yes online application. It is interesting as it did not come up for Dzenna, as an example. The fact that it happened to me (and also to your husband) makes me feeling if we made a mistake when filling the forms or by answering a/some questions which triggered this question. In my case, I initially ignored it, but then when I clicked Next button, I got a warning that YOU SHOULD PROVIDE THIS EVIDENCE. IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE THIS EVIDENCE YOUR APPLICATION CAN BE DELAYED. Of course, another click on the Next button allowed me to proceed to the “Review and Submit” section. There I did not get any warning or error message, which is odd.

Could I ask when did your husband apply and what was the outcome? Has he been scheduled for interview/oath? Was he able to move on and submit the application without receiving the warning message that “if you do not upload it, your case can be delayed”? Has he gotten any request by USCIS after application?

    It will be very helpful.

    Thank you.

I know its 'child support', but in your case the prevailing circumstances might make it difficult to produce any tangible documents as proof of ' child support'.

Now what I'm thinking is if you have your child as the beneficiary of any insurance plan or as dependent on you tax records you could probably upload those documents.

At the interview I'm sure you can expalin your way out with the officer.

Thank you. That is why I’m asking this question.

there is nothing in this form that to my opinion trigger this question. I

I should mention that I can bypass this step, but it will alert me that my application can be delayed. If I move to the next step, which is review of the file before submission, USCIS does not return an error or warning message.

It is very confusing, specially because there is not a specific instruction for online applicants.

Is this a generic supplementary request for all married applicants (supplementary because it is not part of the mandatory evidence request and is happening as part of the supplementary evidence which is a step after previous mandatory evidence step)?

I applied online for N400 (based on marriage after 3 years), and we have a 2yo child. I didn't have this warning about the support. I chose all normal questions and fulfilled all info about my child. I dont know what is right for you, I am just informing you what I had.

Try to read on USCIS official website all about it, or N400 form explanation.

Thank you. Me too, I don’t know why this has come up on my application. Nothing in USCIS website, too. Apparently this is for divorced applicants or those who have their child living away from them.

    I’m really confused.

  4. Hi,

I am about to submit my online N400 and I have an urgent question. I am a married, applying for naturalization based on 5-year of residency after getting my green card. My wife and daughter (under 18) got their green card the same time as mine and we have been living together all the time (I married many years ago and this is our only marriage and neither my wife nor myself have no prior marriage). Our address is the same (same address entered in N400 forms).

To my surprise, when I was almost finishing to update the evidences (e.g. birth certificate of my child, etc), I was asked about attaching evidence of child support. I know and am sure that this does NOT apply to me as I have not divorced or not adopted a child, so I clicked next without providing a proof. However, the page loads again with a note that YOU SHOULD PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF CHILD SUPPORT OR YOUR APPLICATION MAY BE DELAYED.

I am very concerned as I am not sure why even USCIS is asking this question from me, at first place. The only thing that comes to my mind is that this a normal question from all married applicants with a child that file N400 online.

I wonder if anyone encounter with this question? If so, what did you answer or better to say what should I do? I appreciate any advice.

    Thank you.
