  1. JFYI: you can burn 138 in one hour with vigoriuos sexual activity.

 Sounds like a good plan. How many calories are in a pound?

    Q. How many calories make 1 pound of weight?

About 3,500 calories adds up to about 1 pound. This applies whether they are food calories coming in, or calories (burned by exercise) going out.

If you eat 3,500 calories more than your body needs, you will put on about 1 pound. If you use up 3,500 calories more than you eat, you will lose about 1 pound in weight.

Thanks. I've got to get scientific about this weight loss. I got some calculating to do.

So if I eat 1,200 calories a day, and lose a half a pound a day, that means I am burning about 2,950 calories in a normal day. That means I need to increase my activity and exercise more. I think I will try working out twice a day. I can't go down any further on the calories

  2. Happy Friday All!

I lost 2.6 lbs. this week. I am at an even 200 lbs!!! I haven't been under 200 in about 4 years! I am so excited about next weeks weight in!! Pushing for 3 lbs next week.

    Confession time....

I backslid yesterday. I found out I didn't get a promotion that I was up for at work, and the whole day I was kind of down. I craved carbs. too. I realized that my eating is a result of emotion. I had a medium helping of spaghetti, a bag of sour cream and onion lays, and a few fork fulls of mashed potatoes (not all at the same time). It was so interesting how my emotions dictated my craving. I haven't wanted any of that stuff for a while, and as soon as I start feeling bad, my desire for foods changed..... And to top it off, I didn't exercise yesterday

But, I'm back on track today. Exercised first thing this morning, and started out with my water. Back to 1200 calories a day and no eating after 7pm.

    Stay positive

Congrats!! WOW. Did you read the post a few days back on how our hormones can effect what we eat? I think we were talking bout emotional eating....anyways all that matters is your down

I haven't been this low in years as well, hubby told me las night my body is "reshaping" it self. LOOKING GOOD!!I'm pushing for three pounds as well. I want to be under 200lbs sooo badly, it's going to be such an accomplish....I've not been doing so well on the water, which is probably hindering my weight loss as well, I think i'm going to leave out the weights for a while  I need that visual from the scale, I'm working too darn hard not to see more progress.

    WTG!

Congrats to you as well. OK... we are going to keep each other on track this week for a 3 lb loss!

I hear you on the weights. I don't use them right now. I do however have these gloves I wear when doing aerobics. They have what feels like sand in them, not too heavy, maybe 1lb each, but it's just enough resistance when doing aerobics to help with the shape of my arms.

Water is very important. Helps you keep that full feeling throughout the day. I didn't drink much yesterday, and that probably didn't help. Are you counting your calories? I never thought that was useful until recently. And I find that if I stay under 1200 calories, I drop almost a half pound a day. So, I swear by it now. And it helps you learn portion size.

Good luck to everyone in meeting their goals for the next week. One step at a time.

Not since I stopped weight watchers I had the points of my most fav foods memorized, so I just stopping using it. I also used a cal counting thing I found on line....I wonder if my account still exis  I'll have to check.... anyways, it was free and all I had to do is type in what I ate and it added it all up. School happend and it got to be one more thing I needed to do, I figure I was at least keeping my self under 1500, I guess I need to watch more closely. I do a bit of weights at home and in the step aerobics class we use weights as well. Not next week I'm skipping out. I exercise in one of those sauna suits. I also have one that targets the area around the waist, the thing is soping wet when I take it off. Going to look for my calorie count account.

Sauna suit.... That sounds like a good idea. I'm going to look into one of those.

  5. I tired on a pair of pants I haven't been able to wear in years, and was able to get in them  I'm at the point where all my stuff is either too big, too small or very out dated. I guess I have an excuss to buy new clothes

Sounds like it's time to shop!!!! Congratualtions :thumbs:

Just in time for tax refund too...

I can't wait to be able to say that!!!

  6. I'm hungry  , I've been eating salad every two hours all day long trying to kill these hunger pains  Dis nah mek it :help: I need some fat in my life

    PROTEIN!!!!

A can of tuna only has about 150 calories, but 32 grams of protein!! Good bang for your buck...

Oh  I for got to mention the chicken salad I add on top. Still not helping.

My body is craving carbs, sugar and fat. :help:

I did forget to bring my sliced pineapple and watermelon. It will be a nice treat when I get home.

I hear you on the craving carbs thing. Sugar and carbs are very addictive. I was craving for about a week, and fought it. Now, I don't have the cravings anymore. They are just like a drug. I think I've finally kicked the habit. I don't eat any bread or pasta now. Which really limits my diet, but it's working. Are any of you familiar with The pH Miracle? It's a book that discusses our need to eat more alkaline foods rather than acidic foods to maintain a healthy body. It is very interesting, and I tend to agree with most of it. I have incorporated alot of it into my eating habits. Here is alog of helpful information.

    Alkaline eating

Yesterday we had the Battle of the Bands here in Atl. I took my daughter, and was gone most of the day. I ate a bowl of cereal, a bananna, and applesauce in the morning. I didn't expect to be out all day, but the event went on until about 6:30pm. I didn't want to eat there, because there were no healthy choices, and by the time we got home it was 7pm. I don't eat after 7 so I just drank a fruit smoothie and went to sleep so I wouldn't think about being hungry. I got up this morning and weighed myself just to see what impact eating only 800 calories for the day would have..... I lost a pound in just that one day!!!:dance::dance:

  7. Hi everyone.

I'm sorry that I have not posted anymore of the story. I really thought that I would be able to finish the story this weekend. But, it doesn't appear to be in the works. I have been in a LOT of pain lately. I'm depressed because I can't get any relief. I'm just tired. Tired through to the bone. I just want to lie down and not get back up. I'm only holding on by a thread for my sons.

I'm dealing with a lot of negativity at work, and its hard not having any real friends in Atlanta. My man is in Canada, and all the people that really love me stay in other states.

I feel like I'm missing out on so much with you guys. I feel out of the loop and like a stranger. I don't know when I'll finish the story, I apologize. I'm just so tired of it all.

    Jawi

    Jawi,

I am so sorry to hear this. I have been following your story and anxiously awaiting the next post like a crackhead on a corner.... And when I read this post my heart just broke!!! The story is great, and you are very talented, but your health and peace of mind comes first. We can wait...

I can't say that I understand your pain, but I understand what you mean by not having any real friends in Atlanta. I live in Atl too. Not from here, and don't have any real friends here. My husband is now here and he is my best friend. But, at one time I was where you are with feeling alone.

I am also a massage therapist and may have some recommendations for you before surgery. My step-father is a chiropractor in Conyers, and he has the lazer that was mentioned in the other post. His patients come from all over the southeast. If you are interested, please feel free to send me a message, and I can share with you what I know and provide you some resources.

Just know that you will never be given more than you can handle. Sometimes we don't know how strong we are until we are forced to use our strength. If you want to talk, I am here. (F)

  8. Can someone tell me of something that is filling. In the past hour and a half, I've had a brownie, six lorna doones a drakes coffee cake and two bottle juices. I do notice when the cafeteria has cornmeal porridge. I don't snack as much. I'm STARVING. oh and for those who don't know I'm pregnant. but I still need to be healthy.

    HELP!!!

FIBER that means lots of bush fi you, with legumes or beans for protenn. Pack a lunch tek fresh fruit and veggies and nuts...do you like nuts? I love dem, they have healthy fat that gives you have full effect , for example if you eat almonds on a salad.....The raw un flavored ones are the best. Do you like oatmea/l.....I luv it, i buy the weight smart kind with protein....with a slice of whole gain toast and turkey bacon.....Keeps me full till lunch on ly 12 hour day...

When I am really hungry, I eat one serving (usually 1 cup) of some type of bran cereal (the Curves cereal is really good), with a bananna cut up in it (and I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk.... no cows milk). That fills you up, satisfies your sweet tooth, and goes to work on your insides....

When I just have a sweet tooth, I eat one of those cups of Motts applesauce. They have the different flavors (pear, strawberry bananna), and they are 90 calories per cup. Also, the Special K cereal bars are delicious!!! Especially the Vanilla flavor.... only 90 calories per bar! That is my substitute for a snickers....

  9. The treadmil is callin me :crying::blush: SIGH

That is how you do it!!!

Doesn't it feel good when you make yourself workout even if you don't feel like it.... afterwards, you feel so accomplished!

  10. Thanks. I also didn't work out as planned...my job is trying to kill me. I'm back on schedule.

60 minutes of cardio every day. I also wear a pedometer so I try to get at least 15,000 steps a day.

    Plus -

Sunday - yoga class...kinda rest day

    Monday - kickboxing class

Tuesday - dancehall belly dance class

    Wednesday - rest

Thursday - toning and conditioning class and hip hop belly dance

Friday - dancehall belly dance class - praciting for recital so not much cardio involved...kinda rest day

Saturday - dancehall belly dance - African dance or striptease - then practice for recital

OK... WOW. That is what you call a workout schedule! These classes are in addition to the 60 min. of cardio???

I am such a slacker!!! Ok... going to workout right now!

  11. "What are you guys weighting for"...This say we should list five reasons why we want to change"

    http://health.discovery.com/fansites/dr-pe...eighing-in.html

    My five are:

    1. HTN an DM run in my family and If I don't lose, I'll end up like my grandmother, mother and my father.

    2. I need new clothing and I can't stand to try on "fat girl clothes and anymore"

    3. Wanting to be a happier healthier sexier me.

    4. With my hubbies hopes of having another baby, I have to lose 30 pounds by summer, before I even think about conceiving

5.Hoping to be able to possibly get into the Airforce.

    Ok. Here are my five:

    1. I want to be at least 40 lbs. lighter for our wedding.

    2. We wan't to get pregnant this year and I need to be at least 40 lbs. lighter

    3. I want to go shopping in the regular sizes and have jeans fit around my thighs, hips and butt.

    4. I want to wear a bathing suit without the wrap.

    5. I want to prove to myself that I have control over my body and what I put into my mouth! To not be able to lose the weight, to me is saying that I don't have control over MY OWN body. That makes me sad.

  12. I am a huge anti-athelete. My biggest accomplishment for 2008 is running up and downstairs trying to catch a bus...a train...de next bus...and walking a block and a half to my job...in 18 degree weather with a wind chill of 4 degrees. Then, I repeat this same process going home. Why won't the gas prices drop back down to $1.50? FAAAAAADDDDAAAA!!!!

    :angry::angry::angry::help::help::crying::crying::(

I guess the good thing is that I will most definitely be in shape for my wedding if I can ever get divorced!

Welcome back Jawi...hope you feel better. 18 degrees in ATL??? Is it normal to be that cold down there? Maybe I should re-think moving down there

Oh no SJB, don't let the cold weather change your mind. This is not the norm, but even if it is, it's still better than the north! We will be back in the 60's next week.

  13. Good Morning All,

This is a great thread. I lurk on the Yardie and Stella thread, but haven't posted in almost a year. But, I wanted to get in on this. I am determined to shed at least 40 lbs. by June, when my husband and I are going back to JA to renew our vows (got married June 7, 07 at courthouse, will have ceremony June 7, 08 in Negril on beach with family and friends).

Hey LovinJA lang time nuh 'ere glad yuh joined us

    I weighed in tiddeh.. DRUM ROLL.... I've lost 2 1/2 pounds :dance::dance:

Hey Sonshyne! Wow, you are definitely to be congratulated! I want to be like you!!! That's alot of weight you've lost over the last few months! I am just getting started, but I will be there in a few months.

I'm going to workout now, and will weigh in on Friday.

I set my goal in Dec.. At the beginning of every month, I take a picture of myself in a bikini and insert it into a calendar I created in Microsoft publisher, and weigh in every week and document my weight on the calendar. I have a place below my picture to type in how I feel at the beginning of the month. I must admit, I fell victim to the holiday baking, and didn't do so well in December. So, I started fresh for the new year.

I work out at least 6 days a week, for 1 hr. at home. I ordered the Turbo Jam DVD's from an infomercial, and I love it. In addition to the cardio for 40 min., I do at least 20 min of light weights and crunches on my exercise ball. So far, I've only lost 5 lbs. I actually lost more, but gained it back around Christmas and New Years. My big problem is my eating habits. I am a vegetarian, and have been for 26 years, but I eat pasta, rice and bread! So, my challenge is to cut out pasta and bread totally, at least for the next month to see the effect. I drink alot of water (and I squeeze lemon juice in it), at least 48 oz a day.

So, I would like to participate in this thread and encourage and be encouraged. Postive thoughts to all!

Good to see you LovinJA. Great idea about the picture calender

Hey SJB.... I had to get in on this. Congrats on the weight loss this week!

morning....Welcome...Thats a great idea witht the pictures and the calendar.

That pasta and bread is a killer...I try to stay far away from it. My hubby tired to sabatosh my diet with some fish soup loaded with dumpin. I think I worked it off this morning tho.

    Thanks.

Re the pictures and calendar - I thought it would be a nice keepsake to remind me of my accomplishment and how far I've come when I reach my goal. I will have it printed out, and I can look back on it. And, when I look at the pictures, I get really motivated (my thighs are huge!!!)

  16. It seems the more I condition myself through exercise I can ride longer and longer

Yet another great reason to get on the exercise track...Fi di wickidest ride :dance::dance: thanks Dee; that's what friends are for

I agree 100%... LADIES I'm glad I was working out before I went to visit my fiancee for the second time in September...9 times in one day NEARLI KILL MI (TMI) -- I know. But I'm sure working out helped me a lot. He's young and I have to be able to keep up...woieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

    Latah

 ...I was a little fustrated with my exercise this morning, I could not get my heart rate up, I guess the more you workout, the more it takes to get the heart rate up there? I don't know I got tired of trying . I even jogged up hill the last 1-2 min and my HR only reach 170bpm

Don't sweat the small stuff. Celebrate the fact that you got up and exercised!:thumbs:

How exactly does heart rate tie into burning calories? I have never really focused on that.

  18. Hello everyone,

CONGRATS to Sonshyne and LovinJA!!! I cant believe that you guys are here. I remember when we were all going through the embassy stuff together. I only wish that we were still on the same timeline but, we are STILL waiting for some kind of news about the AOS. We did get our EAD but no news for a month now.

Question: I called USCIS last Friday with my husband on a three way and the woman we got said that if I went on line (I did) and checked the processing times I would see that we have to wait six months for our greencard and seven months before we could call again. It has been 90 days since we received our NOA's. Should I schedule and Infopass appointment or just hang in there and wait?? Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi Ricardo,

Thank you!!!! We were so relieved when the green card came in the mail yesterday.... Although we had our interview on the 27th of Sept., we couldn't totally relax until green card was in hand! It took a month and 5 days to get it!! But, I am not complaining, I can only imagine how frustrated you are, not hearing anything since August! Well, based on the previous post from Cecey, it looks like you are not alone in your frustration. I am so sorry things are taking so long for some of you. It's so crazy how everything is just the luck of the draw when it comes to this process.

The only way we were able to get through to an agent when we called for information (the initial person that answers the phone can't see the details of your case. They only see what you see online), was when we were not able to see our case online. The first person that answered confirmed that the case was not online, and they forwarded us to an agent that actually could see the details of our case (and at that point my husband had to be on the phone with me. The agent will not discuss your case unless the filer is on the line).

I would try calling back in a week and just saying to the first person you get that you haven't received an update in over 90 days. Maybe you will get someone that will consider that to be a valid reason to forward you to an agent that can look at the details and give you an update.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.... May you get an update in your mailbox today!:thumbs:

Congrats to all the approvals and transfers to CSC!! It looks like July filers are getting through the process pretty quickly, compared to those that filed before us!:thumbs::thumbs:
