  1. Quick question:

A few weeks back, my wife had her biometrics appointment here in Milwaukee. We arrived at the local USCIS office to find they were closed due to extreme winter weather. It took weeks for her appointment to be rescheduled - meanwhile, we're patiently waiting for her EAD.

Is the EAD process dependent on the biometrics being completed first? I just wonder if we can expect any progress to be made in her AOS/EAD application process prior to this next appointment. I'm guessing no...

    Thanks much!

  2. On the ss-5 Social security card application it states that any immigrant who is not authorized to work must bring documentation that states their reasoning and permission when applying for a ss card. If my wife is to apply for a social security card after 2 weeks arriving in the states, and before 76 days, but has not yet received her EAD, how can she be eligible for a ss card? Help!!!

  3. My question is in regards to the AOS forms, specifically documents included with the I-864 form.

Do myself and my joint-sponsor need to have our duplicated documents (photocopied records etc.) notarized? I remember this was required for the I-130 process, but see no mention of the word "notarized" in any materials at this stage of the game.

    Better safe than sorry?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  4. Hello All,

I've read much, and am looking for a definitive answer (is there such a thing in this process?). My fiance is coming over to the US in a few weeks, having gotten her K-1 (yahoo!). Now, will she enter WITH a temp. work permit, or is that something she'll after she arrives?

And - a broader question - but is she assigned a ss# when she was given her US Visa, or does that come much later in the process?

Sorry to sound a bit vague on these topics - I've read much, but have come across SO MANY different answers. Mind as well speak to others who have gone through the actual process.

    Best,

    Max and Ann-Sofi

  5. Hello,

I'm submitting materials with my I-134 form, and I'm wondering if I've supplied enough info and evidence.

My fiance's sponsor is actually my best friend. I am a poor graduate student, and my family doesn't exactly have the best income status. My best friend makes more than enough annually, has supplied a letter from her employer stating her annual salary, has supplied a notarized copy of her W2 and past years tax forms, a notarized copy of her birth certificate.

Should she also include a letter stating her "relation" to me and my fiancé and why she wants to help? I figure it's more common to have someone's relative be a sponsor, but that just isn't possible in my case. I'm wondering what else I could supply to make our application stronger. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  6. Hello All,

I have a question regarding the evidence of support part of the I-134 form. Is it sufficient to simply include the statement from the sponsors employer stating annual salary etc. ?

I ask because my sponsor has sufficient income, but not too much money in the bank currently. I see that the form says you can submit "any or all" of these financial resources - should documentation of salary be enough?

How about if the sponsor were to include the past years W2?

    Any suggestions?

  7. Hello All,

At the bottom of the I-134 form (Affidavit of Support) it asks "My commission expires on:". Should the person I am having fill out this form (the sponsor for my fiancé) place a date here? Is this the date at which she will no longer "responsible" for my fiancé as a sponsor?

    Two more quick questions:

    1. If my sponsor is an American citizen by birth, does she need to supply proof of her citizenship with this form?

    2. On question #11 where it asks about the sponsors intention of support, is it looked down upon if my sponsor indicates that she "does not intend to make specific contributions"? (My fiance fiully plans to seek employment upon moving here).

    Thanks in advance!!

  8. I am a poor grad student/adjunct university faculty and need a co-sponsor to bring my fiance over to America. I thought (up until recently) that I'd need to supply the embassy with an I-864, but now see that I need to send them an I-134.

Can my co-sponsor fill out this I-134 (since I only make about $10,000 a year at present)? If need be, I could surely include one of my own as well.

    Any thoughts?

Also... Do I send them copies, or the original copies? Will I need these when we apply for permanent residency (for my fiance)?

  9. Oh really!? You think the embassy might already have it? But the NVC never sent me an approval notice... And the (Norwegian) embassy hasn't returned my fiancés nor my email inquiries. Hmmmmm. Odd indeed.

I hope the embassy DOES have it.... I would have expected some notice from the NVC. Did you get any notice, or did it go straight to the embaassy? Thanks much for your response. : )

    -Max

  10. Have you tried calling NVC? ( 1 603 334 0700 press 1 then press 5 ) Have you E Mailed the Embassy?

    Did you try contacting DOS? ( 1 202 663 1225 ).

Thanks for responding. To answer your questions -Yes, yes, and yes. The NVC phoneline is useless - no one ever answers. I've emailed them to no avail - no reponse that way.

AND! Oddly enough, I haven't reeived a response to an email I sent to the Norwegian embassy. Even my fiancé sent them an email. Maybe everyone is bogged down with summer time visas and such?

Who knows. It's hard to simply not hear anything. Ugh.

  11. Hello All,

My fiancé and I received notice at the end of May that our I-129F was accepted, and was being forward to the foreign embassy (Norway).

It has been over a month now, and we haven't heard a word from either the NVC or the foreign embassy.

Any thoughts on why this could be? I thought things were supposed to SPEED UP after they left the USCIS.

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Hello Folks,

I also have a "finances" question. I am a grad student and will also have to have a co-sponsor (my Mother).

My question is this - My fiance is probably going to have her interview at the embassy this summer. What, if any information can I/should I provide her with regarding my co-sponsor. A letter or statement of sorts declaring this co-sponsor? Any financial records etc.?

I'm going to Norway to visit her in two weeks, and thought I should inquire before then (in case I should bring some documents with me - etc.)

I've been told that the Norwegian embassy is pretty lenient, but I want to cover all bases in case

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks much!

  14. I have a quick question.

My fiancé and I filed our K1 (I-129F) application in February. I check on the USCIS site weekly, and it posts that the California Service Center is just now processing applications from September of 2006.

However, February filers who's applications went to Vermont tell us that their applications are already being processed and forwarded to the embassies.

Although, on the USCIS website, the Vermont most recent processing dates for K1 visas is ALSO September of 2006.

Does anyone have an explainer on this one?

Should I even bother looking on the USCIS website for schedule updates?

    Thanks much,

    Max

  15. Hello All,

I'm up late - my mind is racing about this lengthy, lengthy process ahead, and I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to a possibly silly question:

My fiancé is a Norwegian citizen. Since she livesin a country with a tiny case load of people coming to America, can we expect an overall quicker process (than say if she lived in Mexico for example)?

This is assuming all goes well with our application before it gets to the consulate.

    Thanks much!
