Did you take with you a certfied copy of your divorce decree with the apostile stamp and the registration stamp from the department of state and did you show this at the us embassy in Irag? You would also have had to send out if we have one in the usa but an iraq consulate to get translated to arabic

Did you need to get all of this for iraq - they didnt ask me for any of this?

May i ask where you married in Iraq? Are either one of you iraqi citizens?

    Was it at the court?

We married in Erbil but my husband is from iraq. It took us a werk of running around signing things and getting signatures for us to marry. But all has been well. If iraq recognizes your marriage as legitimate than you are fine i think....uscis will just want to see that both of you were free to marry when you did.

Yeah us too!!! Took us a week. Can you please check what is says under your husband marital status on your marriage certificate?

I married in iraq last year. There was no issue at all. My husband had previously been married, his was the only divorce decree needed at get married. Uscis will ask for your divorce decree and nvc and embassy....but i dont forsee any issues at all. You are legally married and recognized as such anywhere you go with your marriage certificate...i believe. I will double check my own certificate and let you know.

What are you worried about exactly? If your marriage will be recognized by us if your iraqi certificate says single?

Yes this is my worry - I had no idea about the marriage process, and nor my wife nor me speak arabic. We had someone she knows fill out all the paperwork. I am very worried that they didnt put in all my divorce information in the paperwork.

  5. Hello, I recently got married in iraq - but I had a problem. I have been divorced before (in the US) - but in the marraige certificate my status says "single". I dont speak or understand arabic so i had someone fill out all the forms for me. Is it normal for certificates to have single status in this situation? Technically I was single when we got married, but I dont know if the status should have been divorced?
