  1. My spouse had a student visa and went to university here. When he filled out his DS260 he checked off "have social security number but don't know or don't have it" (dont remember the exact wording.).. a few weeks after filling out DS260, he found a W2 with the social security number.

This may be a stupid question but, that number won't change, correct?

Will they automatically send him a new social security number after POE(which will be on Sunday) or will he have to go to the office to request a replacement?

If that number stays the same(which I don't see why it would change) it would be helpful because he wouldn't have to wait for his social security card to start working since he already knows the number. I know the visa is proof of employment authorization but you need a social for everything else.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge on this topic that could help me out? Many thanks!

  2. My husband picked up his passport at Mississauga post office this morning. Interview was Tuesday at 9. I would recommend post office for pickup. It seems once you add another variable to the equation by choosing home delivery it makes things more complicated, and I don’t have much trust in the system. Lol. Good luck to everyone!

Could you please share what questions they asked?

    Nothing out of the ordinary,

    where did you meet?

    whats your wife’s full name?

    where does she work?

    where does she live?

    Do you have any children?

    is this your first marriage?

then they asked about his withdrawal of entry. After his student visa expired he went back by car to get the rest of his stuff. They said to come back via air with a return flight scheduled since he didn’t have strong enough ties to his home country at that point. He came back like a week later with a return trip and they gave him no troubles. They just asked him about that again.

and that’s all, no trick questions or anything

Hey guys so my husbands interview was Monday morning at 8. He was approved and on Monday night the visa status showed issued.... your case is undergoing necessary administrative processing. I probably checked 200 times yesterday. This morning at 930 am it changed to issued... your visa is in final processing. If you don’t receive within 5 days...

at noon, we received the tracking number. I’ll update when we receive the passport. He chose to pick it up at the local office where he lives in a Georgetown, Ontario.

Sorry. His interview was Tuesday morning*

That was helpful. We have a CR-1 visa as well. The passport should be back by Thursday. And I am glad to know we can just open it to get the number to pay the fee for the greencard. Thank you so much!

My husband just had his interview this morning and I was able to pay the fee using the A#... that’s all the way at the bottom of the Interview appointment email, and our case number the “MTL2018...” that we’ve been using to log in to the CEAC site. I was under the impression that I would have to wait for the physical visa to pay the fee but my lawyer emailed me and told me I could pay the fee and the sooner I paid it the quicker he would get his greecard, and it worked just perfectly with those numbers. Good luck!!

Had my interview today and I was Approved !! 🙂 Will put a more detailed review later. We are still in Montreal and fly back home tomorrow morning, to Vancouver. I  was especially nervous because of my spouse is living in Canada with me and had to prove Domicile in the US. It worked out fine. ( My spouse is the US Citizen ). If anyone has a specific question in the mean time, please ask. Also I asked for Canada Post delivery to my home will also update everyone as well!

    Congratulations!!

  8. Hi guys, hoping someone could help me with this. It says to bring the original affidavit of support to the interview. My question is, I know my signature needs to be wet. But what about my lawyers? Do you think I need to get her to mail me her wet signature or is the scanned copy fine?

also, for tax returns. Can I just print the return that I downloaded off IRS website or do I need to request by mail. Sorry if anyone has already  asked this.

OMG ! We also got our interview today !

    Priority Date: Nov 17, 2017

    CC Date: Nov 9, 2018

    Interview Date: Jan 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.

Not expecting anything new I logged onto the CEAC about 1:00 p.m Pacific time, and it no longer said our case was at NVC it said it was in Montreal. I didn't believe it at first by also noticed the flow chart in the middle of the page was little different and it also said the the Montreal Consulate has received our case and it is currently being reviewed.

I was still thinking was does this mean, it couldn't mean we have an interview and I called (sat on hold for 40 mins) and yes the agent said you have an interview scheduled for Jan 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. I couldn't believe it ! I said are you sure ? and he said yes. I said I thought they were finished booking interviews for Jan/2019 ? and he said not that I'm aware of. So, I guess they are still being booked. The agent said you should get an email within a week and then the email came within 5 mins. I'm still very, very surprised !

Me too!! I wasn’t expecting an interview until February or even March. My husband said check your email and I lost it at work! I’m so happy and happy for everybody! Such a great Christmas present :) I thought they were done for January as well, and there were all these October dates that didn’t get interviews yet so it’s the last thing I expected. So happy!

My cc date is October 10th and I'm hoping for a January date. I was also delayed 4 weeks due to them rejecting my privacy act police check and having to request and resubmit the visa border crossing police check AND the privacy act one.   I hope your date comes quickly, but its looking like a 3 month wait from cc to interview....

I'm sure you're gonna get an early january date. It sucks that the changed the whole police check and screwed people over who were in that september month. I'm expecting a three month wait I'm just wondering if there's any legitimacy to this appointment wait time estimate!

Hi. My case complete date is sept 26 and another girl is sept 21, neither one of us got an interview date for December. Most likely will be January. So it’s at least a 3 month wait from CC to interview for CR/IR1

yeah, I've seen on this topic that the average for you guys is three months right now but my question was more so if anyone checked the travel.state.gov website where they give you the current estimate for visas when they received their CC.

I saw darth vader commented about it being a 90 day wait, and its typically a 50 day wait, so what I was wondering if that statement was based off the timelines on this topic or if that was what was read on the website. because if it was they it can give an idea of how accurate the website is. My lawyer told me that that site is updated often and is usually pretty accurate so I was hoping people who have received their interview date checked that site when they received the case complete can attest to its accuracy. I feel like all the estimates I've received so far have been pretty accurate. My lawyer told me that after they switched to this online system and there was a shutdown for several weeks in July so basically all those summer CC dates have been really backlogged. Hopefully its speeding up but theres also apparently a slowdown in late summer and early fall. If anyone had checked the average interview wait time at the time of their case complete, could let me know please! thank you

  12. Hi everyone,

I've just come across the forum and its been so amazingly helpful. While I was reading through this topic, I came across someone commenting that Montreal historically takes 50 days, but right now they are at 90 days.. I was wondering if anyone that has received their interview recalls if the waiting time on the NVC site read ~90 days? or if that was just a guesstimate.

My case complete was November 19. Unfortunately it took about a month and delayed us because my husband was too stubborn to listen to me when I told him his short birth certificate wasn't sufficient. When I go on the site and check the estimated wait for interview it says 49 days. So I'm just curious if anyone remembers what it said at their date of case complete so I could know if this estimate is somewhat accurate. Thanks in advance!!
