  1. Hello all, I have a couple of questions. My wife(Japanese) and I(USA) are in the process of translating her family registry/koseki and our marriage certificate for the purpose of DCF for a spousal visa to the US in Japan. We are using the forms provided by the embassy, located here:

    http://tokyo.usembassy.gov/pdfs/wwwfhhregister.pdf (koseki)

    and here:

http://tokyo.usembassy.gov/pdfs/wwwflarge.pdf (marriage certificate, the large one)

    1. I got the Koseki Tohon which includes the information for her parents and siblings as well as herself. Do I need to include everyone's info in the translation? If so, how? The sheet only has space for head of household + 1 other member, so I assume I just use more sheets and leave the head of household part blank on the other sheets?

    2. Also, do I need to do anything with that little box marked "seal"?

    3. As for the marriage certificate, basically the same question. What do we put in the bottom blank marked "seal"? Do we need to translate the mayor's seal? If so, my wife says she can't, as it uses weird kanji or something like that :P

Thanks in advance for the help!

  2. Hello all, I know this seems silly, but I actually have the same question as the OP. I am a USC petitioning for my wife and have filled out form i-864. I am using my father as a sponsor, so he is filling out form i-864a.

I had thought that my father's name was needed on both parts 2 and 3 of form i-864a. But according to the information in this post, it should be as follows:

    Part 2: Sponsor's promise:

    13. I, the sponsor, (my name) ,....

    14. (my signature)

    Part 3: Household Member's promise:

    15. I, the Household Member, (my father's name) ,....

    16. (my father's signature)

    This is correct?

Also, I was under the impression that these signatures don't need to be notarized or signed in front of the officer, is this correct? Thanks in advance, and sorry again for the repeat question.

  3. Hello, my fiancee is Japanese and I am an American citizen. She is in Japan now and I am in the United States. I've been trying to research the best way of going about getting married and getting permanent resident status in the US for her. It seems as though getting married in Japan and doing a DCF is still the best and quickest way, however I've read that I am not eligible because I need to live in Japan for 6 months before being able to file the I-130 in Japan. Is this correct? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  4. Thanks for the reply! Sorry for being so vague. Basically, we probably won't be getting married until next year so waiting for the K1 isn't that big of a problem. However once we do get married, we would like for her to be able to become a permanent resident and be able to work as soon as possible. From everything I've read it seems as though DCF used to be the best way to do that, though now it is unclear. Also from what I've seen it seems to take around an average of 10 months for AOS to be approved after entering the country on a K1 visa and getting married. Does this seem accurate to you? Also, would it even be possible to do DCF, after we've gotten married in the US, if she returns to Japan? (I assume they will have gotten the problems with DCF sorted out by the time we get married). Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!

  5. Hello,

My fiancee and I have just gotten engaged :D and we are trying to figure out what the best way of moving her to the US would be. We had been looking at marrying abroad and doing a DCF, but that system seems to be all mucked up now. Now we are looking at getting her a fiancee visa and getting married in the US. She has heard from somewhere that if she returns to her home country (Japan) after marriage and applies for a green card there, it would be quicker than staying in the US and applying. I have been searching but have found no info on this. If anyone has any clue on this, I would greatly appreciate the help!! TIA!

  6. Hello, I've just gotten engaged :D and am new to this process. I've been searching around the forum and it seems as though DCF is the best option for getting my fiancee a visa/greencard. Or at least it used to be? I'm pretty confused about the recent happenings with the new law passed and all. She is from Japan, so do you know if we can still file the I-130 from Japan? If so do you think it would still be a faster way for her to get a green card? Or do you think it would be better just to try and get a K1 fiancee visa and go through the waiting associated with that? Any info or help would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA!
