  1. Hi everyone, just wanted to update you on my current status.

My wife arrived in Chicago on the 22nd of July. As you can imagine, I was very happy. Very ironically though, my company needed me to work on site in Orlando, Fl for the next 2 weeks. Initially I wanted to take her with me, but it was very short notice and she really hasn't adjusted to life here yet... so I went to Orlando alone.

Anyway, I'm back now in Chicago and got to spend a full weekend together which was great. We filled and sent all the AOS forms on 7/28 and are waiting for the EAD approval before we get her social security card.

Good luck to everyone else and thanks for all your help. I'll be on the AOS forum much more now.

  2. You can get a SS number right away but it will be stamped not authorized to work but this should be OK for insurance.

Thanks.. I looked into that and the SS-5 application states ..

If you check "legal alien NOT allowed to work", you must provide a document from a U.S federal, state, or local government agency that explains why you need a SS number and that you meet all of the requirements for the us government behalf.

Not quite sure what that all means....

I added my wife to my BlueCrossBlue Shield without a SS# so I didnt have this problem. Check with your insurance company, not your HR and see if it is really required. Call your local SS office and ask them what documents are needed, maybe it could be a letter from your bank or your insurance company requiring a SS#?

Thanks for your help. I'll try to contact my insurance company directly and then call the SS office.

  4. Hi everyone,

My wife will be arriving in America next week on a k-3 visa and i wanted to make sure she'll be on my heatlh insurance coverage via my work ASAP. She has no medical issues whatsoever, but I just want her on it sooner than later.

My HR department told me it was required that she have a SS number before she can join the health plan.

My question is now.. what's the best and fastest route for me to obtain this? I think i'm going to file for her EAD immediately and then shortly after (once i gather the rest of the information, I.E. medical forms/supplements), I will file her AOS.

From what I've read it appears it'll take about 3 months for her to obtain her EAD, I then can go to the SS office and obtain her card.

Please let me know if I am mistaken somewhere in this process or if there is another route. Thank you all for your help.

  5. Hey everyone, my wife had her interview this morning and sounds like everything went smooth. After a few general questions about me, what I do, where I live, hobbies, favorites, etc. The forms were collected and she was given a pink slip to hand over when she picks up her passport. They told her congratulations, she's approved. They did not mention any AR/AP, but did take all of her fingerprints. They also told her that she should recieve her passport within a week or two. I'm verrrry happy yet a little confused, cause based on what I read, everyone got the pink slip and fingerprints even the AR/AP ones????? Well, I hope she will get her passport & visa soon.

Again, I'd like to thank everyone on this board for their support, feedback, and continuious updates.

If anyone who has went through this, and can answer the whole pink slip question, while stating that she will recieve her passport in a week or two...., I'd appreciate it.

    Zeyad,

My wife had the exact same experience during her interview and received her visa through AMEX 1 week later. The pink slip is just a token and it appears she'll be getting her visa soon. Congrats. My wife is set to arrive in the US in two weeks.

    Good luck to all.

  6. Hi everyone,

My wife just informed me that AMEX called and asked her to pick up her passport. She went there during her lunch break and got her passport and new K3 visa.

She also received a semi-sealed package and was told not to open it. I believe this is for the immigration officer at the POE. She can see inside the envelope and said all her checklist documents appear to be inside.

As you can imagine, I'm pretty happy about all of this. It also shows some hope to the others that were worried about their future interviews.

    Good luck to everyone.

    Congratulations! This is great!!

Question ... Did you ever call DOS to see if your wife did go through the security review (AR/AP)?

No, we never called DOS. My wife never received an actual document stating she was on AR/AP. She was just given a token and told that her visa would be ready in a few weeks.

  8. sallams to everyone

Did anyone's spouse use the online applciations (newer versions) rather than the ones given by the Islamabad embassy in the K-3 packet (older versions) ?

because I was reading through VJ and couple of people who went for interview with the newer version online applcations were refused and were told to come at another time and fill out the application forms which are the given in the K-3 packet (older versions)?

    Thanks in advance!

    Farah

    Farah,

My wife's K3 visa was last week and she used the online forms. She made sure they matched what she received in the mail first and then just typed all the information on the PDF file. Nobody had any issues of it during the time of the interview and they kept all her documents. I believe there was 1 document about your parents information that wasn't online, so she used the document given to her.

  9. I'm filing K3 for my wife and also in the process of getting these forms ready to be sent out to my wife in Karachi. Does anyone know if I should fill out I-864 or I-134 for Affidavit of Support. A friend of of mine whose brother-in-law got interviewed in Islamabad send me a copy of the letter they sent him that letter asks for an I-134 only. I have read that for K3, only I-134 is required but I have read conflicting information from different sources.

If anyone can confirm whether I should fill out I-1864 or I-134, I'd appreciate it.

    Tareq,

My wife's K3 visa was last week in Islamabad and she needed my I-134 form, not the I-864.

Furthermore, your wife will receive a detailed checklist from the embassy stating everything else that is needed.

    Good luck.

  10. Zeyad,

In my basic opinion, I think it's already predetermined if your wife will go on AP/AR just from her name and the procedures the embassy uses to confirm background checks. They are not giving visa's immediately anymore it seems and I believe (and hope) my wife is not on any major AP right now. All signs show she will receive her visa shorty as they took all her documents and did not hand her any forms stating AP/AR.

I don't believe you will be allowed in the actual interview with the US interviewier. There is a shorter pre-interview that takes place which I think you can attend. Please see my review of my wife's interview that took place last week for full details.

If your wife can prove to them you are indeed married and have all the documents stated on the checklist, I don't know how much you being in attendance will affect the matter.

I'm sure others might have better experience with this than me.

    Good luck with everything.

  11. I know this has been answered before, but I must ask again. My wife's travel agent continues to insist that she'll need a transit visa for the UK.. when her PIA flight will travel from islamabad to chicago and stopover briefly in manchester.

Every website I've checked states if you have a US entrance visa, you don't need a UK transit visa. I've asked her to talk to PIA directly and/or a different travel agent.

Unless, rules have recently changed, could someone confirm that they did not need one traveling through the UK to the US on a K3 visa?

Thank you very much and good luck everyone.

  12. The following is what my wife told me happened during her K3 interview in Islamabad, Pakistan on June 5th.

I had my interview time at 8am and they called me in at 815am. They took my checklist upon entrance and i was seated in the lounge. I was called to window # 5 to deposit the visa fee equivalent to 100 $ and i gave them Rs-6100/- The guy told me to wait and shortly they'll call me for the interview. He also asked me about the language that i prefer the interview to be in. After 5 mins, i was called to window # 6 and a pakistani lady was sitting there. She asked me to deposit the DS forms, medical report, police clearance certificate, marriage + birth certificates, tax returns, affidavit of support.... All the stuff according to the check list. She then asked me to show the original copies of my birth certificate, marriage certificate and police clearance certificate. She was filling a form while looking at my documents and checked the YES box infront of every question. She asked me to show the wedding pics and then proceeded to ask a few questions.

    when did you get married?

    how do you know him?

Then she wrote " Looks Good" on the sheet that she was filling and said ok you may sit again and wait for the final interview call. After another 10 mins i was called to window # 7. An american lady was sitting there. She had all my papers and made me take an oath first...She then started asking the following questions:

    What's your name?

    Who's your petitioner?

    What does he do?

    Where does he work?

He is working for which company?

    How do you know him?

How did he get his citizenship?

Have you ever been to the US?

Is this your first international trip?

    What do you do?

    Is this a love/arranged marriage?

How many people attended this event?

Did both families attend your wedding?

Show me your previous passport? (i told her that's its not valid and the passport office kept it with them and my old passport did not have any visas on it)

She said ok, show me your pictures, show me the Barat ones...

After spending almost 10min on the window she said, ok you are approved and you'll get your visa in a few weeks via AMEX and signed one sheet... . I asked her Is it over now? she said yes you'll get your visa in few weeks and gave me a pink slip (token?) and my visa number is mention on it apparently...

It took a complete hour and I was out of the building by 920am...

  13. Great document Khurram. What are you having your wife do during the wait? I believe you started inquiring about additional vacctinations for later. My wife's travel agent again insists she needs a transit visa to go through the UK. I want her to speak directly to a PIA spokesperson as well, as we have all found information to the contrary.

I should get the scan of the documents they gave my wife along with the questions they asked her. Of course, I'll post them here as soon as I get them.

She received two documents. One was a white sheet of paper with the local AMEX information. The other was a small pink square sheet that has 4 digits written on it., no words I'm hoping this is just the token.

    Good luck to everyone.

  14. All,

My wife's K3 interview was today and I just wanted to let you know the brief things I found out already.

She was told by the lady she is approved and should get her visa in "a few weeks". The embassy kept all her documents that were on the checklist, including her passport, all the certificates, and all my tax information.

My wife was handed a white paper with some american express locations written on them, plus a pink square sheet of paper that did not state any information clearly.

My wife told me the lady who interviewed her didn't seem to be a good mood from the beginning and asked tons of questions and smiled barely once. Compared to what i've read here, it appears my wife had many more questions to answer. They asked alot about me and how we met in detail. Her interview time was at 8 in the morning and she was already back home by 10:30, so it went much quicker than I thought.

I'm going to talk to her in detail later today and post more information then. I'm glad the interview went well and hopefully this wait/AR will be over soon. The fact that they embassy kept all her info and passport I believe is a good thing.

Thank you all for your help.... and just another hundred more steps or so until the entire visajourney is over.
