  1. You should be okay. I think she can be processed in Singapore cause she has been living there for more than a year. The only thing is - she would probably need to get a police clearance from the Philippines.

We have almost a similar problem. In my case, my fiance who is a Filipino citizen is currently working in Malaysia for less than a year. I had inquired at the Malaysian embassy and they said that they can't process him there since he won't satisfy the 1 year residency requirement; and therefore he'll be interviewed in Manila. Anyway, I had filed my I-129 in Feb and I haven't heard anything so far. Hopefully that will work in our case.

Don't worry about. I think you'll be fine. Good luck!

  2. :help: Hi! Just got my NOA 1! but I have a slight problem. My fiance's name has been misspelled. His name is Niño but it was spelled as Nino. Do I just call the 1-800 to have this corrected? I think this will always be our problem because not a lot of people know how to type an ñ. Does anyone have an idea on how we can prevent this problem next time. Please help!!!

    Thanks

  5. You don't have to make him go home because he can be interviewed at US Embassy in Malaysia.

My fiance called the Kuala Lumpur consulate, sad to say we have to file it in Manila. The consulate said that it may take longer if it will be processed there because he has only been working in Malaysia for only 4 months and the consulate requirement is 1 year. I guess we don't have any choice - he'll just go back to Manila. Does anyone here had or have the same case? We need advice.

    Thank you in advance!

Are you sure you asked the Consulate the right question, or that they heard the right question?

How long does your fiance have permission to stay in Malaysia?

How long will he haev been there when your case gets to the Consulate? Closer to a year?

Most Consulates will accept the case of a resident non-citizen (our case was one of these) IF the beneficiary has sufficient forward permission to remain in the host country (in case there are delays completing the case).

You might want to pursue this further.

I'll ask my fiance to check again with the Malaysian consulate. I think he had told them that he's been in Malaysia for abt 4 months now on a work permit. The consulate said that they won't be accepting the case coz it would be hard to validate the requirements. According to them, normally they require 1 yr of residence.

My fiance have permission to stay in Malaysia up to 2 yrs and I think by the time that he gets the petition/paperworks he would still be in Malaysia. How long does it take for the petition? is it between 6-9 mos?

On your case, how long have you been resident non-citizen in that country? How long did it take in your case and what where the requirements they had asked?

I just hope this doesn't get too complicated for us.

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience. :star:

  7. I took a whole page and told our story. At the interview it was clear that the consular officer had read our how-we-met story that I included so mainly I wrote it for him and anyone else that needed to be convinced of our relationship's validity. It's a chance to show your relationship is real, so I'd write a bit, but that's just me. There are many ways to do it as long as you describe meeting in the last two years.

Thank you so much for the info. Now I feel a lot confident about going through this process without a lawyer!!!! This website is really cool. =)
