Does anyone know how long it takes to receive your green card after being approved? Had our interview Thursday and got a fair bit of grilling.. but we got approved! Just curious how long till we physically get the card :)

We got mine yesterday, so unless there any major issues you should be getting it soon if you havent already got it. What is your online status.

  2. So here is the long post detailing the interview today. Hope it helps

So we had our interview in Seattle today and we were approved on the spot.

    1. We reached the seattle office 45 minutes before the interview [ Parking for the USCIS office in Tukwila is $8 Cash, so don't forget that]
    2. We walked into the office 30 minutes before the interview and checked in on the first floor
    3. We walked up to the second floor and sat on the left hand side (we should have sat on the right hand side since that's were the officials come out and call the names but luckily we heard her clearly)

The interview took about 45 minutes with the first 15 minutes being spent in:

    1. Taking the photo
    2. Fingerprints (index fingers only)
    3. Making us take the oath and checking our id's - Keep your passport, drivers license, EAD (for the beneficiary) ready and for the petitioner, ensure they have their drivers license or passport ready
    3. Going through all the questions on the I-485 (the officer also peppered us with questions form the I-130 such as each other's birthdays, parents names, each others full names, where each other was born and so on) while going through the questions in the I-485.
    4. The next 30 minutes was spent mainly asking us about the following
    --- How we met
--- How long did we know each other before we started dating and how we kept in touch
--- When did we decide to make it official
--- How we got engaged (this she asked my wife to tell the story and asked me questions as my wife was telling the story)
--- What we did for our marriage
    --- Asking about common interests
--- Random stuff like "do you have any pet peeves about each other"

Then she asked us if we had any additional documentation to add to what was already submitted in the initial application. I handed her our very extensive Table of contents (which can be found here: https://www.***removed***/forum/showthread.php/243268-Feedback-on-our-folder-of-evidence-Marriage-based-AOS?p=593972#post593972) which she absolutely loved and asked if she could keep it since said it was incredibly well organized. From the list of evidence she asked for

    1. Common bank statements (interestingly she only wanted the latest statement and not the statements for the last 6 months since she said she didn't want to overwhelm the file and wanted to keep the case file no thicker than 6 inches)
    2. Copy of the Lease agreement for the apartment we stayed in before we bought a house
    3. Copy of the title deed of the house
    4. Insurance documents - she was a little surprised that we didn't have each other on each other's health insurance but we explained that we both had health insurance from our respective companies (which was fully paid for by the company) and if we needed to add each other to the company insurance, we need to pay fairly high premiums which didn't make sense. She agreed that made sense and she liked the other insurance documents we had presented.
    5. Copy of our Power of attorney documents
    6. Copy of the 2017 tax filing (she just wanted the first 2 pages to show that we filed jointly)

After that we spent some time looking through all the photographs we had got (about 40 of them) and explaining where every one was taken and the story behind them (and highlighting the ones where we had family or friends in them) and she took all our photographs

After that, she told us that she was going to approve us and we should get a notification about the card being produced in 30-60 days and thanked us again for being so organized and said she loved how we had organized everything with dates since that showed the strength and length of our relationship. She then walked us out.

20 minutes later after we were sitting down to get lunch, I got a notification that our card was in production.

Hey Hey....thanks for the congrats!  In my post, I tried to use the wording that was given on the NOA interview checklist letter.

The actual literal wording used in the NOA interview checklist letter was:

"A certified copy of your Marriage Document issued by the appropriate civil authority"

Because my wife and I knew we were going through this immigration process, we requested multiple copies of our marriage license from the King County Courthouse after we were married.  We gave one those copies to the USCIS interview agent.  I assume "certified" means the copy of the marriage license given to us directly from the King County Courthouse (appropriate civil authority).  As the Courthouse keeps the original on file, and issues 'certified' copies.

Hope this clarifies things.  And good luck to you and yours during the AOS interview too!  The interview is pretty easy, as they interview agent mostly just verifies everything you have already submitted and should have in-hand!

Ok that helps, we have two copies from the civil king county courthouse (we didnt think of asking for more). That said, if they want the original copy, I'll just give them one of the two.

Although we brought all the paperwork and evidence requested on the interview notification checklist, the interview officer only asked for the certified copy of our marriage license and supporting evidence of our marriage.  We gave her a certified copy of our marriage license, as well as a copy of the deed of the home we recently purchased, copies of our utilities bills, copies of our insurance cards, and copies of our joint bank account statements.  Of course, all of the supporting evidence had both of our names on them.

Congratulations ! Can you elaborate on this "certified copy of our marriage license". I have a copy of the marriage license from the county which has their signature. Did you submit this or did make a copy of the marriage license and get it attested ? I am just confused by what certified means here ?

    Thanks

  5. So I am not looking for a table of contents but I am trying to get a feel for how people organize their content for the folder of evidence. Do you break it down into different folders and carry all in or do you have one large folder which is separated by tags ?

Also what are your recommendations on the type of folders we should use ? Do you use something like this - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...filing+folders or something like this one - https://www.amazon.com/Expanding-Mul...+folders&psc=1 or a combination of both.

Those who have gone through interviews , if you have photographs that you can share, that would be much appreciated. I am pretty happy with my table of contents so far but I am flummoxed as to how I can carry it all together (right now i am thinking of 9 different exhibit folders which seems rather inefficient)

Woohoo!! Interview is scheduled! We had a priority date of 10/17/17!! Eagerly waiting for our letter to come in the mail for our interview date!

I just got my interview date, its Jan 31st.I am not sure if the interview dates are filled sequentially but considering I got the notification on 26th, yours should be within a few days after mine.

I understand.  But I am presumming that we have to see an American doctor chosen by USCIS and I'm thinking the cost is all the same price.  That's just my understanding if that makes any sense. Before I had my K-1 visa interview there was only one doctor that was selected to do the medical near where I lived and it was pricey.  Hopefully you will find the info you are looking for!  Good luck.

No the cost is never the same , i have seen ranges from $300 to a  $1000 reading the yelp reviews. Thank you for your response though

No I don't know of any K-1 visa applicants getting an interview or Green card in Seattle office. There have been a few other types of visas being processed. But then I try to encourage myself by recognizing that not everyone who is in the waiting que for a Green card interview is on visa journey.

In regards to Mecial exam if you look on the USCIS home page online  they should have a page that gives you information of where you can get your medical exam with names of Civil doctors and addresses. Hope that helps.

Thanks I am aware of the link to see the list of surgeons, I am curious if people had any recommendations on whom to see (someone who is reasonable priced and efficient)

Unfortunately I have the same issue..my dad was diagnosed with cancer recently and I am trying to get an expedited EAD\AP. How did you go about this.  Like did you carry additional documents showing the diagnosis and so on?

    Hey everyone!

just over a week ago my mum was diagnosed with cancer and I immediately went to the visa centre in Philly for an emergency appointment and the officer requested to expedite my AP. We just received a letter in the mail yesterday that my expedite has been approved and my combo card will arrive in the mail shortly. I’d like to go home to Scotland for a few months, maybe around 3-4 months. Does anyone know if there’s a limit on how long i’m allowed to stay in my home country with my AP?

    Thanks
