  1. Hello to all!

i'm pretty new at this, so hopefully i won't make any mistakes..

i received my fiance visa, entered the USA on october 22nd, and we are getting married on Dec. 14th, YAY!!

but in spite of all the happiness, i was very surprised first not to be able to work right away (i guess i misunderstood the guides i was reading before arriving to the US)... well, now i understand i have to wait after the marriage and send the specific form to ask for EAD, right?

so when i found out i couldn't work yet, i decided to postpone my SSN filing. is it wrong? shall i do it right away? will the SS card say "legal alien authorized to work, or NOT?" if i file now (before the wedding) for SSN, will i have to get another one after the wedding (since i'll no longer be a single, and maybe authorized to work?) . so many questions, so many papers, so much waiting!

thank you for your answers, and a big up to the people running this website: so much valuable information!!!!

    Mag&Andy

Go get your SSN right now! They will give it to you while you are not married yet, but once you are married they will say you are not a fiance/ee anymore, so come back when you have your green card. In the meanwhile, your SSN will be helfpul for other things you need to establish - like a bank account, driver's license, med. insurance, etc. So don't wait! You will just have to change your name on the SSN card later, but the number will be the same.

  2. Do any of you know what it really means when the NVC says that your petition is in "Administrative Processing"? NVC has had our petition for about a week but has not forwarded it to Moscow. Does "Administrative Processing" mean that there is a problem with the security checks? How long can one expect their petition to be delayed at NVC if it is in "Administrative Processing"?

Any information would be much appreciated.........

Don't worry yet! A/R can mean nothing special. It's just a standard reply they give people. As I was told on the phone, our case was in A/R and it only took them 1 week in NVC! After I was told about A/R I freaked out and called again and another agent told me something else about 9/11 and blah blah, same thing but in different wording.

  3. Currently I have all my mail delivered to a Post Office Box. Do you think on form I-129f and G-325a it is okay to use this or should I use my home address?

On the form G325A they ask for Applicant's RESIDENCE , so you should put your home address. i am not sure about 129. Put your home address if you can receive mail at home, or make an additional page with the comment that mail should go to the PO box.

  4. Greetings all!

I am engaged to a Haitian citizen and we are getting ready to send off our I-129F petition. I have a question about the G-325 form. It asks for all addresses in the last 5 years. At the current time I maintain two addresses, one in the USA and one in the Dominican Republic? Do I put them both? I want to use the USA address as my premanant address for all immigration dealings, but I don't want to withold the information that I also stay in the DR.

I have heard that the visa is processed through the embassy where the US citizen lives, not where the foreign fiance lives, if the US citizen lives abroad. I don't want to process our visa through the DR, as the waiting list for an interview is over 3 years long. Is this true?

    Any advice or suggestions?

    Maria

The consulate assignment where K1 visa will be processed is based on where you fiance lives not you an US citizen. Check if there is a US consulate in Haiti and if they process K1 visas. Some consulates do not process K1.

As for the address, I would definitely show them the US address as the main one, and would add an additional page to the form with a comment, that you maintain an additional address in the DR. i guess it also depends on how much time you spend in which country.

For the future - when you need to write you affidavit of support for the visa interview, make sure you have your income as the US income not DR.

  5. Hello again,

firstly thanks for all your help so far, we are finally putting all the forms together to send off. I have read through all the guides and most of the posts on here (lets hope my work dont check net usage!)

i have one little issue that i cant find answered on any other posts, and this applies to me...

    sooo..

i went travelling last year, for around 9 months. Worked in Oz, on a travelling work visa, and lived in a hostel. Is this something i should tell. I still had my house in England etc etc. Just went away for a break, on the end leg of the trip i met my fiance, so i guess some questions will be asked about it. i just wonder if this will complicate my application?

im just looking for some guidance.

i was just going to put unemployed in the work bit and put my house in the address section, or would it be wise to put travelling then the hostel name....and the place i worked?

once i have this cleared up im ready to send off! slightly nervous, and dont want to make any mistakes!

    thanks in advance.

    Rusty

PS - just realised i dont have to send my form in with the pack for the 129f, am i right in thinking this dosent have to go in the first pack?

The Bio form has to be sent together with the petition.

I strongly suggest you show that you spent 9 months over there. There was nothing illegal , so why to cover it up? Relax and put it on the form. Especially that you met you fiance (fiancee?) during the trip. You can be lost in your lies some time later telling them about how you two met. And they will see your passport with your work-travel visa on it at the interview anyway! Don't lie, it might come back and bite you!

The only thing it would entail is that you might need to get a police certificate from there - I think this can be done through their consulate in your country.

  6. Just read another post, and it made me worried.

For my age group I need MMR, Td and Varicella(I've already had chicken pox).

I have no clue where my vax records are....I had a titer test performed here in Korea, and it proves that I have immunity to varicella and MMR.....they said one couldn't be done for Td, but I read that it can.

But this other poster is saying they want all records from birth...how is that possible to obtain, and what if I don't have it? I don't want to be revaccinated. I'd rather submit an exemption form than be re-vaxed.

Don't worry, you don't need to be revaccinated for everything! I was in Canada and I didn't have any records of any vaccinations from my home country - Russia. I went to my doctor in Canada with the list from Dr. Seiden's website, and she did a blood test proving my immunity to MMR and Varicella. So I just got a shot for Td no problem, and asked my doctor to give me a written confirmation of the immunity and the shot done. That was enough for the medical and nobody asked me for anything else.

If you titer tests are from Korea, just get it translated into English and bring it with you to the medical.

  7. I'm still waiting .. nothing received to date and checks not cashed (USCIS rec 08/01/07) ... I called USCIS today and they told me I would have to wait frigging 90 days before they do an inquiry ...

Make an Infopass appointment. The phone line doesn't know anything and if it gets to 90 days you'd be better off resubmitting! I am so sorry you're having to deal with this headache. Vote 'em off the island.

Thanks ... will be making the appointment for tomorrow .. one good thing though .. EI approved me today .. gonna get a nice little deposit to my bank account in the next few days :)

That's great about the EI! I am still waiting for their decision.

As for the AOS filing, keep us posted! I haven't heard anything about mine...We will be fine eventually!!!

  8. I had the same question as you, and I also have an account with the RBC, so that's what I know.

You can wire money from a US bank account to RB, for me it would cost $40.

Or your husband can buy a money order from his bank, it cost us $2, to the order of you put your name, and mail it to RB asking them to deposit it on your account, and tell them the # of your account. That's what I did, and RB said that they would have to clear it first, and it might take 2 weeks.

If it is more than $1000, than your husband can buy a Bank Draft, and you mail it to RB. Good luck!

Gosh. I don't want to sound rude or anything but why would anyone go through all that when they can just do electronic transfers through Custom House for free?

You are right Krikit, I didn't know about Custom house when I was writing this, thanks, now I know. It sounds like a great thing.

  9. I'm pretty ignorant about the US banking system. Does anyone know how difficult it is to deposit money into a Canadian bank account (specifically, Royal Bank) from their spouse's bank (specifically, US Bank)? I assume it's possible. What information is needed other than the account number?

    Thank you.

  10. Well, they gave me this...

"we cannot process your visa application due to insufficient information. When oyu have obtained the requested items listed below, please CONTACT our office via email to schedule a NEW APPOINTMENT. Please show this form to the security guard located at the 1075 West Pender Street entrance of the consulate"

    a. Passport

    b. Philippine NBI clearance

    c. Philippine Marriage Index Check

We cannot make a final decision on your case until we complete additional administrative processing. We will contact you once this processing has been completed. PLEASE DO NOT TELEPHONE US OR RETURN TO THE CONSULAR SECTION UNTIL WE ASK YOU TO COME IN.

    Mamalovesdada,

I answered you PM, but just wanted to add here as well.

I got the same letter, listing the documents I needed to bring, with the same "additional admin processing". If you know how much time exactly it will take you to get the required information, schedule the appointment now. Even if you don't do it now, don't worry, you probably don't have to wait another month, they are pretty fast in Vancouver, you might get it let's say next week after you ask about it. Don't be afraid to email them and ask about what you need, they respond well and actually the guy who responds is very helpful and they also want to finish cases fast.

They told me: Bring us the document, we want to finish you case fast. I though Oh my God, HOW I WANT that you finish my case fast.

  11. Traditional items for parents - calendars, souvenirs, alcohol with some story/booklet "This wine is from blah...and they have old traditions there...blah-blah" A small nice carpet/rug. Towels. Soft bathrobes. A big book with big photos of USA natural wonders. Guinness records book. Just writing down what comes to my mind.

The girls: cool brand-name clothes (from an outlet store) - sports clothes, jackets, tops, T-shirts, blouses, sport shoes, pretty flip-flops. They would be happy! They know and respect Nike , Reebok there. Buying clothes and shoes in Russia sucks, it's either cheap low quality Chinese items pretending "famous brand names" , or it is good quality and fairly expensive. That's what I like about clothes here in North America - there is "golden middle" and brand names are affordable (I am Russian myself)

A purse. Women from 0 to 100 y.o. love purses. Cosmetics in all shapes and forms.

Jewelry - silver or whatever, sorry I don't know your budget.

Chocolate never hurts:)) especially in a nice souvenir box. Souvenir tea.

A nice picture or a photo of something American in a frame - like Manhattan skyline.

Depends as well if they live in a big city or in the country. In the country people are pretty easy about anything, in Moscow or St Petersburg they can be more selective with their taste.

    Have a great trip!
