Hi,
I just received my interview date
, and it says I have to bring all documents used to enter the US, including my passport which has now expired. I was going to renew it this month, but my interview date is much earlier than I expected -- Aug 29th -- so there is chance that if I send it off now I may not get it back in time to take to the interview. Should I try to get the passport renewed so that I have a current valid passport for the interview (and therefore risk having no passport at all), or take my expired passport to the interview?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Beth.

Thanks for your replies -- that's really helpful. I did ask about re-entering on my F1 visa after our marriage, but the office of international programs at my school thought it would be fine, and I've read conflicting information about this online. Some places say that USCIS takes a dim view of entering on a non-immigrant visa after marriage, but the same document says that it won't stop the application for green card from being approved -- does anyone know anything about this? By the time I knew it was a problem we had already been planning our wedding for a year and I had to come back to finish my PhD, so I didn't have much choice, but still...
I think you'll need to have an Apostille Certificate applied to your marriage certificate (per Hague Convention guidelines), but I'm sure someone who knows definitely will be along soon to say so.You might also need to consider the conditions under which you reentered using your F1 after you were married.
Good luck in your journey

Hi,
I'm living and studying in the US on an F1 (student) visa, but married my now husband (a US citizen) in the UK a few weeks ago, so our marriage certificate (and copies) are British. Can I use these for my green card application? If so, does anyone know if I need to get them "legalised" by the foreign and commenwealth office? I saw something about this online.
Thanks!
