  1. I have seen this topic posted before but I cannot locate it. The US Defense Department wants to send me overseas for 3-year tour. Hopefully my wife will get her Conditional Permanent Residence (Green Card) before I would move, but I am concerned about the USCIS residency requirements, and I seem to recall that a CPR/LPR spouse of a USC under official overseas orders can petition the USCIS to waive the residency requirements and begin processing for an expedited naturalization? Was I dreaming? Does anyone have any references for this? Thanks!

  2. Visa runs are what many people do. You get to see other countries doing it this way.

Yup, but the days of doing that indefinately are over, the last time I was in LOS there was a sign at the Immigration desk stating that now you may enter Thailand once every 90 days, so if you are on a 30 day tourist "pass" and you want to stay, go pay for the 90 day extended tourist visa, don't risk a visa run and get stuck in Cambodia, Laos, or Burma for 2 months waiting to get back into Thailand.

  3. hello all,

just got a mail from CRIS, that my card production has been ordered.............should be getting the (work permit) card within 30 days.................

do any body here know how long usually it takes ..............i think i should be getting the card in less than 30 days...............can somebody share their stories please.................

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO U ALL

Received EAD card today in the mail, 3 days after the last CRIS email saying they ordered the card.

  4. 1. No they do not (I am going thru the same situation), credit score has nothing to do with this.

    2. The Consumer Credit Protection Act limits the amount that can be taken from your pay to 50% of net income (since your married), ex cannot get any more despite what she thinks she deserves.

Hello, I just got married a few weeks ago in the PI. Now that I am back in the states and will be filing a I-130 petition to try to get my wife and child back here in the next year or two. I am not in very good financial condition at the moment.

I work at a major newspaper and make around $35,000 per yr. I know this is just above poverty level for even thinking about bringing someone over here. This comes out to about $400.00 per week after they take child support payments out from a previous marriage.

When my ex-wife found out that I was getting married again, she went ballistic and decided to take me to court again for more money. I was originally paying $560.00 per month for one child. Now she wants child and spousal support. She is asking for $1500.00 per month now. As you can see I couldn't live on that. My rent alone is $1000.00 per month excluding utilities.

I had a roofing business that went belly up. I don't even have a valid contractors license anymore so I can't contract. Her lawyer is presenting to the court that I have extra income on the side and should be able to make these kind of payments. This is bogus. The little that I make on the side for small jobs only just helps me pay my way through living in the S.F. bay area one of the most expensive places to live in the United States now. Very hard to live on $400.00 per week.

I am also in a Chapter 13 from this previous marriage. We have around 2 1/2 years left on it to be paid off. I will probably have to covert this to a chapter 7 if she gets here way in court. I going back to fight the judgement. I will see my lawyer next week.

My question is that if I file for a chapter 7, what are my chances of getting my new wife over here? I know they go by your wages but do they look at your credit rating as well?

I tell you, I have never been so depressed in all my life. This money thing looming over me has taken a toll on me.

My new wife knew about my situation before I married her so there is no suprise here. But I would hate to break her heart if for some reason I couldn't get her over here.

Please no flames, it's bad enough already.

    thanks,

    martinbr

  5. I think you got the best advice already, go to the interview anyway (it will not affect the interview process) and bring it back later when you get it. I would be concerned that if you try to reschedule the interview, you might have to wait 6 weeks. This way, if interview goes well, you will get the visa within a few days of bringing in the police cert. The Embassy accepts requested documentation only on non-holiday Mondays between 1pm and 3pm.

  6. I sent Nid copies of my phone records (highlighted all calls between us), copies of emails between us (many were when we sent pictures to each other), copies of my Western Union receipts, copies of airline ticket stubs and itineraries, copy of passport stamps, etc. They looked over everything then handed it all back to her when she got to the window. At the interview they asked her "When did you meet? Where? How? What does you boyfriend do? What do you do? Do you have children? Does your boyfriend have children? Have you seen his children? Has he seen your children? How many times has your boyfriend visited you? How long did he stay? When did your boyfriend finish with (divorce) his ex-wife?"

While Nid was there she said that some people were asked many questions, some only a few. Just don't be nervous :)

    Hi everyone,

Just trying to get an idea of the types and amount of evidence you had for your fiance(e)'s interview in Bangkok. So far, I have a few postal slips she filled out for packages she sent me from Thailand, e-mailed receipts of flowers I have sent to her, hundreds of pages of chats, pages of chats with her on cam (used print screen to capture her chatting to me), e-mailed "receipts" of e-cards I sent to her.

I have sent her numerous cards (for her bday, our anniversary of when we first met, others just because, and just recently for Thanksgiving). She has received none of them which really irks me. This last card I spent $11 priority so she would get it. Nothing. I know the postal system there is questionable at best, but this is ridiculous.

I am also sending her a Christmas package. I pray that it will get to her this time. Last year there were no problems, but I guess if I have to use DHL, UPS or FedEx, I'll pay the extra to make sure it gets there.

We will both have phone records as well.

I really want to be there for her interview, but I am not sure if I will get the chance. I am just trying to make sure we have enough evidence so she won't have any problems incase I can not make it.

  7. We received biometrics appt letter this past week, we are to go to the USCIS Glenmont  This was not on the pull-down list of USCIS local offices on the timeline page. Yesterday we drove past the address, and sure enough, there is a USCIS local office there :D only a few blocks away from where Nid is taking her ESOL class. Her class ends mid-Dec, so we are hoping her EAD will come real soon.

  8. She should receive the medical forms in her packet 3, she must then take all of these forms to the hospital when she has her medical done for the doctors to fill out (suggest you wait till she receives her packet 4 with her interview appointment date, she should plan on going to the hospital a couple weeks before her interview). Another option is to wait till her case is received in Bangkok, then email the IV section and request that they email you the current forms.

  9. I went to a civil surgeon at a cash-only walk-in clinic here in Washington, was told pretty much the same thing ...

    1. No passport number was filled in, but Nid's alien number (ie A#) was typed on the label on the sealed envelope. The office assistant told me that they never put the passport number on the form (which makes sense to me, the passport number is issued by the beneficiaries country, but the A# is issued by the USCIS, so that is the number they will track).

    2. The office assistant would not put any of the vaccinations that Nid got in Bangkok on the form since they were not done in the US by an American doctor (???? but as done in Bangkok by the "approved" doctor on the embassy's list), so only the shots she got while she was here was put on the form. She also told me that they only need to show 1 shot for MMR, DT, and Chicken Pox - which she had here at my doctor's office (the second in the series for these three shots).

    3. All other vaccinations were age inappropriate, and the form was marked as such. Ours was marked as all requirements met, but the blanket waiver box was also checked (????? why need a blanket waiver if all requirements are met ?????)

I have noticed all doctors are different. This doctor was the 8th one I called. I was quoted prices from $25 to $100 for filling out the form only, up to $250 for complete exam and bloodwork, even argued with one doctor because she said that Nid was supposed to get a copy of her medical exam results from Bangkok (which were sealed in the envelope that she gave to the embassy) .... am gathering that the doctor's here are not quite up to speed with how this needs to be done, or are making up their own rules to get more money from us. If the civil surgeons are this screwed up, I can't wait to see how the USCIS handles this, after all they "Approved" this list of civil surgeons. Wonder what needs to be done to be an "approved" civil surgeon, maybe can get my doctor to do this???

  10. Sorry I got in this discussion too late ... buying the car is the cheapest part. I would recommend you learn how to perform routine maintenance on your own (change fluids, brake pads, batteries, etc. ) because mechanics will charge you ALOT to do this, and with a 98 Merc this should all be accessible and pretty easy to do. Also keep the radio off for the first couple hundred miles so that you learn the sound of your car on the road - this first sign of something going bad is when the car sounds "wrong". Preventive maintenance is cheaper than fixing after it has been broke. 75k??? It better be from an old lady only going to church and back (and hitting a few curbs on the way to bust a strut), that is way under yearly average mileage in the US. In Florida you really need to watch for corrosion from the "salty" air (I used to live in Sarasota) - it kills cars faster than anything else down there. Hopefully it was treated well.

I have bought cars with over 100k miles with no problems, cars today tend to last alot longer than they did 20 years ago. Being proactive in maintenance and upkeep will make that car last well over 200k miles. Can't vouch for foreign-made cars being better that american-made cars, they are all machines.

  11. My advice is to not put anything there that you cannot prove with documentation (I spent 3+ weeks sending documentation to the BKK embassy after the interview!!!). Any trips should have passport stamps/ticket stubs/etc. Emails and chats should have email address information and copies of sessions. You really should only to stick to the facts, you just need to describe when/where you met and that you have personally seen each other within the last two years.

It is a very nice story!! Good Luck!!!!

  12. I would be wary of these reviews also. I live in Silver Spring about a 10 minute (non-stop) bus ride from the SS Metro Station. The apt complex is very nice, quiet, allows pets ($300 sec dep and $25/month extra on rent), my rent is $1000 for a very nice 1BD apartment on the 2nd (op) floor. The reviews on this place were average, but visiting both day and night I was impressed, so figured that the negative reviews were just the squeaky wheels .....

  13. USCIS was holding a gun at the head of Congress to get the fee hikes approved. Either pass the fee hikes or we'll sit on our duffs! So Congress approved the fee hike (under serious protest). The first attempt by USCIS failed.

I read this with much skepticism, since "taxpayer-paid gov't employees sitting on duffs" would definately raise unwanted flags at the OIG level. USCIS is financed thru taxpayers, stopping work because you "want more money" is one of the ways for a Federal Employee to find hisself/herself looking for another job, or spending time behind bars.

  14. .... from recent personal experience .....

Contact your US Senators and US Congress-person soon. Yes, they will tell you that they have no influence on the decision of the CO (after 9/11 everything got more difficult), but when a US Senator and a US Congress-person inquire about a case at an Embassy, it is not sent to the CO but to an individual way up the CO's chain of command who does have influence on the decision - the case must be reviewed by that person because they are ultimately responsible to answer the Senator's and Congress-person's inquiry (it is not usually very smart to blow off a US Senator), so you will hopefully have a more reasonable set of eyes reviewing your case.

    Good Luck, don't give up!

  15. When having a document notarized, the notary is ONLY attesting to the fact that it was YOU who signed it. The notary does not know nor care if any of the other information written or typed on that form is true or not, ONLY THAT YOUR SIGNATURE IS YOURS (which is why you provide ID to the notary)!!!!

So, the only document here that YOU sign is the I-134, so it is the only document that needs to be notarized (the bank signs their own letter, your employer signs their own letter, etc.). My advice is to be amply prepared to provide evidence for each and every number on that form - if you nor mom can't prove it, don't put it on the form.

Notaries only verify signatures, never content!!!! :) Content is your burden of proof..... Good Luck!

  16. Ding, what happens personally between you and Lek is your own business, and as you probably already have found out, this forum was definately not the right place for this question. Sounds like it was already done anyway when you wrote it. So to answer your question, Nid and I did not nor will not do a prenup (really no need for me, my first ex-wife made absolutely sure I had nothing left). That was my decision. If you feel it is the best route for you and Lek, everyone here should respect your decision. BTW, who did the translations, your lawyer or her lawyer?

Thai's lie! American's lie! German's lie! Brit's lie! VN's lie! Lawyer's lie! Every person on this planet lies. That is 100% fact. If you would say "all white anglo-saxon male carbon-based bipeds in Maryland lie" I would have to agree. Good Luck to you and Lek, I am very happy that the two of you were able to reconcile and move ahead.

  17. OK, well then all I can suggest is that you contact the US Embassy Bangkok directly by email at visabkk2@state.gov make sure you put on the subject line your NVC case number and the last name of the Thai beneficiary and ask them what they will need for you. I can only conjecture, but they would have the real poop. They usually reply within a day (unless you catch them during a holiday). I hope they can give you the answer you need.

  18. I don't put alot of belief in stickers on cars ... when i set my cruise control to 5 mph over the speed limit and settle into the right lane for a nice leisurely cruise, i take time to notice many of the cars going past me like I am standing still with "I support the Sheriff/State Police/etc." or the little Christian fishy, or my favorite "WWJD" ... I really don't think the answer to WWJD is "20+ mph over the lawful speed limit!".

Now putting all this cynicism aside, I noticed a sticker once that I thought was probably the most truthful i have ever seen. While pumping gas, an old buick pulled up across from me, out stepped a young lady in skin-tight jeans and a tank-top. On the back of her car was a ribbon (similar in shape to the troop support ribbons) but this one was bright purple with white lining on the edge, and on it was printed "Support Lap-dancing".

  19. I was using a calling card for nearly 2 years now which was charging me 10 cents per minute ... DOH!!! Thanks for the tip about callingcards.com, I ordered one this morning and am using it now, 5 times as many minutes  and Nid and I talked almost forever tonight :dance::dance:

The quality was identical, the voices asking for pin numbers and cell number were even the same as my old card  I am a dolt. Anyway, now when Nid comes here she will have a great plan for calling back home. Thanks again!!!!!
