I don't see why it shouldn't be ok.

Well, damn, a human being would offer water to someone visibly sick and coughing. This guy obviously wasn't one. Sorry to hear you had to be interviewed by this person.
On a related note, I think it is imperative that both the petitioner and the beneficiary get accustomed to the paperwork because you never know who they're going to ask what. I'm our case I prepared everything and my wife didn't really go over the paperwork, and as luck would have it the interviewer asked her something about one of the papers. As I was about to answer he firmly but politely said that he wants her to answer. Luckily it was a simple question that she knew the answer to. Bottom line, both of you should go through all the paperwork the night before the interview.

Anyone who went to Santa Ana:
Did you get an I-551? I am asking specifically before I go to an infopass next tuesday.
Thank you.
Why are you asking, because you didn't get one?
I am asking because I want one after my interview and want to know if that office issues them or not. If they don't and that's for sure I want to know so I can make travel plans around it. If they do normally issue it I want to know so I can book my flight to visit my parents etc. I can't make ANY definitive plans without knowing either way as I can't wait the 2 weeks for GC in the mail (wife is on break after interview so I want to go asap)
With the US government nothing is for sure, so no one can tell you what to expect. From reading the forum it seems like most people are NOT getting the stamp any more. I don't think you will know for certain until after the interview.
Best thing to do is to wait until you actually get approved and THEN make plans. Worst thing to do is to plan for something and then have to break the plans because things didn't go according to plan.

... how doesnt it proove its my letter when my full name, address and Alien reg number is on it? Thanks
Because anyone can make up their own? With today's copiers and printers it really isn't too difficult to recreate a welcome letter.

That's a very disturbing signature.

We have plans to travel to India at the end of December where we will have a large celebration for our wedding.
If you guys don't get your act together and get more proof of a bonafide marriage you may be staying in India permanently!
Excuses about not having time to open a joint account is BS when your lifes together are at stake.
Good Lord. Try being a bit MORE rude the next time, eh?
to the OP - USCIS likes to see co-mingling of assets. Have you done that at all?
Rude or not, Haole is right on. Instead of trying to save days for a long vacation in December (which might not even happen if you get an interviewer having a bad day) why don't you both take a day off and open a bank account? I would think that would be more important.

Not sure why people are saying that a passport isn't needed, that was the first thing the interviewer asked for. And isn't it in the interview letter that you must bring it?

I am filling out my I-131. I am a K-1 visa holder and need to know exactly what I am applying for on the I-131. I am pretty certain that it is advanced parole, but not sure. I have no travel plans back to Canada at the moment, and in my case it says that if I am (in fact) applying for advanced parole to skip to Part 7, but then I don't know what to write there also. Can anyone please help me out? Do I just explain it is for travel purposes back to my home country when I would like to go, but have no plans at the present time?
Help please!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
1. check for more than one trip
2 & 3. leave blank since you're in the US
Also, on a separate sheet of paper explain why you need AP. I think most people say something like, "my folks are old and blah blah blah."

I got a new job in the middle of the process, about a month before the interview. All I did was update the form and take with me an employer letter. Had no issues.

i have just doubled checked with my husband - he is adamant we sent the tax return and the W2 for 2006 .... getting a little frustrated with repeating what we have already done!
USCIS is well known for pulling this. They did it to us too. They sent us a letter telling us that certain documents weren't provided EVEN THOUGH IT WAS OBVIOUS FROM THE LETTER THAT THEY WERE. I made an Infopass visit trying to prove my point but, alas, sometimes you can't convince idiots.
-
Thanks for your help! I notice some people do take them along but it doesnt make a whole lot of sense since we already submitted it. I guess it may only be needed with changes in income.
Well ... thing is that sometimes the interviewer still asks for the forms, even if they were already submitted. I believe the interview letter states that you should take copies of everything submitted.
-
Doesn't the form tell you what to bring?
-
The interview letter that you received tells you exactly what to bring. Seems like you have enough but what you need really depends on who interviews you, so no one can tell you what exactly to bring. We brought everything stated in the letter and the guy only asked for a couple of things, in your case he might ask for everything.
If in doubt bring a copy of the entire package.
-
Really now, surely you could've looked up what 'pending' means. No one here minds helping you but you should really try to help yourself first.
-
We didn't get a stamp. I guess it's nice to have but in our case we got the Green Card 7 business days after the interview.
-
Once you get your AP you can travel to the ends of the world if you want as many times as you want. The AP is only needed to enter the US.
-
Yes, you can print out the bank statements, that's what we did. The lease is a good thing. Weren't you in the old lease? I'm not sure if copies of credit cards will cut the mustard, why don't you just take or print out the card statements? The different card numbers don't matter, at least it didn't for us, but I really don't see why it would matter.
The military card showing your husband as the sponsor, to me, seems not too important. USCIS ALREADY knows he's your sponsor, why would you need to tell them again? The insurance records will be good.
-
This is becoming common with the USCIS. Just send them what they want (again)
Something like this happened to us. USCIS claimed that our AP application had missing information and whatnot. I made an infopass visit and asked the fools there to show me where I made a mistake. They showed me the note saying I didn't do such and such, I literally pointed to them where I did such and such and they still refused to accept that they made mistakes and said that we would have to resend the AP application.
We were about to resend it when we thought otherwise and opted to save $170. A few weeks later we got the Green Card interview.
USCIS and expecially the Infopass offices are full of really, really stupid people.

how do we change the name on our utility bills?do we need to call the company and say that we are requesting a change of name in the bill? Also, can my name be added on the cellphone bill and how can we do that? Regarding auto insurance, im not driving yet and i dont have a DL yet, can i be added on the auto insurance just like that?
Anyone please???
Every company is different, no one here will have all the answers you're looking for. You'll have to call each and every utility company you want to change names and ask them yourself.

I can't comment on the link you provided, what's to prevent any two parties from printing this form out and signing it? Best bet is to ask a lawyer. If it's ok to use I would think it would still need to be notarized.
-
You don't say where you're located, but I was in the same predicament as you and went to the office and explained to them the issue, they offered to process us right there. Go to the office and make sure that you take proof of your trip.

Hi everybody,
We do not have wedding rings because we started this whole AOS process so we can start our lives here...so after i get all my paperwork done we are planning to do a huge wedding with everything..rings included. My question is, based on what I just mentioned, is it going to be a problem to go to the interview without marriage rings?
My life insurance is in her name, we have bank accounts, we shared medical benefits, we are going to get mobile phones, but we are planning to have the rings when we have the chance to do it and we want to do it the best that we can. I gave her an engagement ring and we are married but we do not have the rings yet. The other issue is that we do not have pictures of our wedding because it was not really planned to be that day but it happened. But we have pictures since we met, in 3 countries, in many places, and we are REALLY having a life together.
So anyway, I really do not want to be in trouble because of that, and besides I got a great job and we also bought car/house and I really can't be denied just because of a "detail".
Any tips/advice are welcome! We will have our interview on december 13.
Thanks!
/PepeG.
Well, they can deny you for anything they like, so even the smallest "detail" to you might be something that matters to them. You mentioned that you have bank accounts, are they in both of your names? Don't go crazy with pictures, I wasn't asked for one. Just take what you have. It doesn't have to be from the wedding.
Remember, it's not what YOU think about your lives that matters, it's what the interviewer thinks. Just because you think you are really having a life doesn't meant that the interviewer will.
AOS Interview next week, preparation checklist, need some help?

5 months is a long enough time to establish many things. The bank statements are good but might not be enough. If you guys rent are you both on the lease? Or do you guys own a home? Both names should be on the deed. Any credit cards? Even a Blockbuster video rental card would help.
