.. that one day, to get your citizenship you could walk up to a machine similar to an ATM, select "Citizenship Application", and have your fingerprints and eye iris scanned for identification. Your eligibility will be determined within seconds by accessing the appropriate databases. You take the computer-based test, and in a minute or two, the machine finishes printing out your certificate of citizenship and travel passport.
P.S. Of course, by this topic title I do not intend to disrespect Dr. Martin Luther King.

I have 365 days specified on NOA1. Filed in October 2007, and still waiting on FBI name check
-
Hello my dear friends in sufferance I am having a few issues I would need help with but before everything I will give you a brief outline of what happened so far. So, end of April, I filled the N400 under the 319b (Expedite naturalization). It was supposed to take 3 months, I have found myself in December still without an answer. I wrote our senator and in about 1 month he got back with me saying that there was some sort of confusion between Nebraska and FBI (as the name check was the only thing uncleared) but they will start as soon as possible the processing. I called USCIS to find out that my paperwork has been sent from Nebraska to Detroit, where I initially wanted to have the interview at. So, great news so far even though it took a while. Anyways, I am now waiting for my interview letter. They said "you are in line" whatever that means (if you know I would sure appreciate a little insight) and that I will soon receive a letter for the interview. First question: How soon is soon? I am getting ready to start a new term (college) and if this letter shows up and I have to go for the interview before March I would rather drop the school for this term (so I wont lose the money) and focus on citizenship. How long does it usually take to receive the letter for interview from the moment they sent the paperwork from Nebraska to Detroit? I honestly don't know what to do about school! Should I just drop it for this term or not?
Another thing: given the fact that we are military stationed overseas, I have read quite a few posts saying that there was a delay in between the interview and the oath. Now, I am sure everyone is aware how much plane tickets are to fly from Europe to the States...are there any chances of taking the Oath at least within a week of the date of the interview? I mean, I know I am not that special but still, is there a special request we could make so we would not have to return to the states 3 months later for the oath?
Thanks so much for your help...in advance
Kaahlonice
I applied in October, and right now, as they told me on the phone, everything for my application is complete except FBI name check. They told me they will go ahead and send my application from NSC to the local office anyway.
Do you think contacting my senator about the FBI name check is a good idea? It looks like I have the same problem, and they will just keep waiting for FBI to respond.
-
Since I filed in October, it seems strange that they are still doing the FBI name check
-
the 800 number is called here on forum "disinformation" line, they can state and promise various things but you need to check with other sources too
i think they just told you that to just let you know that case is processed and pending, and that cases are generally due a FBI check and then generally go to local office, but i dont think phone reps have idea where exactly your case is or how close to any of this procedures.
but local office and interview are different line of events then fingerprints and fbi clearance, they can happen simultaneously and sometimes local office approved you and FBI pends for months after interview.
Okay, here is approximately how the conversation went:
Rep: (introduces herself)
Me: How are you doing? I filed an N400 application is October, but I still did not receive my fingerprint appointment notice.
Rep: What is your A#?
Me: It is ...-...-...
Rep: How do you spell your last name?
Me: ...
Rep: I see that everything for your application is complete except the FBI name check. We did not receive their reply yet.
Me: Okay...
Rep: One moment please
(Pause)
Rep: We are going to go ahead and send your application to the local office. Once the name check is complete, the local office is going to send you the (line noise) apointment notice.
Me: Thank you.
Rep: You are welcome. Good bye
Me: Good bye

Today I called USCIS and got both good news and bad news.
The bad news is that my application was ready to be sent to the local USCIS office, except that I am stuck in the FBI name check.
The good news is that the told me that they are going to go ahead and forward the application to the local office, and they will proceed when the name check is complete.
So now my progress is as follows:
10/10/2007 - Mailed N-400
10/12/2007 - Delivered to NSC
10/26/2007 - Priority Date
10/26/2007 - Receipt date
11/02/2007 - NOA receipt Notice Received
01/15/2008 - Called USCIS. FBI name check in progress. Application package forwarded to local USCIS office
So you have not even been fingerprinted and they are already running a name check on you?
They told me as soon as FBI name check is complete the local USCIS office will send me some appointment notice. I did not quite understand because of line noise, but I guess fingerprinting will be right after the name check.
On the other hand, I read that FBI uses fingerprints for the name check. I'm kind of confused. I did fingerprints for another application a while ago, maybe they used those fingerprints.

Here is my timeline as of 01/03/2008:
10/10/2007 - Mailed N-400
10/12/2007 - Delivered to NSC
10/26/2007 - Priority Date
10/26/2007 - Receipt date
11/02/2007 - NOA receipt Notice Received
Considering fast receipting of my N-400 application, it would be reasonable to expect the biometrics appointment notice to be issued already. But this has not happened. Strange, huh?

There is a number of ways to get citizenship without a certain required period of residence. The most simple one is by serving on active military duty. Becoming eligible for others may be more difficult and time consuming than just waiting 5 years and using the regular way to apply for citizenship.

My NOA1 says: "expect to be notified within 365 days of this notice"

My wife is an LPR and she file the I-130 for her son about 6 months ago.
We sent the papers with a money order and cetified return receipt. We got the
return receipt back signed. We just realized we never received a Notice of Receipt
and a case number. They are processing March 2006 for these petitions, so we know this
takes a long time.
We wanted to check status from time to time, but cannot without a case
number. Anyone know how long to get back a Notice of Receipt? We filed at
Vermont.
Thanks,
ninotchka
I have a similar question
-
How do I get the cashed check though?
-
I am a Legal Permanent Resident. I sent the I-130 package to the Texas Service Center on December 5, 2006, and on December 20, 2006 they cashed my check.
But I did not get the Notice of Action yet. Is this normal, or something is wrong?
ANOTHER POLICE CERTIFICATE QUESTION
in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus
Posted · Edited by yeremeyv
It is possible to request a Police Certificate from Main Information Center of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russian Federation that includes all regions (including Moscow or St. Petersburg) that the applicant lists on the application for Police Certificate.
I would suggest listing regions pertaining to all addresses listed on G-325A, including Moscow.
Whether the applicant was registered or is currently registered in any of the regions, it does not matter at all.
Processing time of the application is 30 days. They tend to have the Police Certificate ready on the 30-th day and not a day earlier. There is also information that the processing time is 3 weeks to 3 months, but I do not know if it is true or current.
The address is: 117418 Moscow ul.Novocheremushkinskaja, 67
Public reception hours are something like 8 AM-9 AM Mon-Thu.
There is no fee for filing the application, and internal passport is the only document required to file the application.
