  1. I am looking for someone that can prepare and notarize a Power of Attorney for my Ukrainian stepson. The document would need to be prepared and notarized in the US and then sent to Ukraine to facilitate the transfer ownership of an apartment in Kharkov. Stepson is a green card holder. He moved to the US when he was a child and on his mothers passport. He has never had a Ukrainian passport and if he returns to Ukraine they would likely put him in the military! We are trading the apartment for elder care of my wifes father so time is important. Thanks!

  2. Just received another letter from USCIS for the stepson it verifys that he is included on an I-751 form. It says "You may travel outside the united States and return during this one year period upon presentation of both your alien registration receipt card and this verification"

Does this take the place of a passport? Since the stepson was under 18 when he left Ukraine he had no Ukrainian passport, he traveled on his mothers?

  3. Greetings all! I have made the mistake of hiring an immigration attorney to handle the I-751 form for lifting of conditions. Really just to check my documents, better off just doing myself!

I contacted her and she filed the I-751 about 90 days before the expiration date of Cond Green Card. But she used the old form so it was sent back to me. I resent with proper form and yesterday received the I-751 NOA.

My wife and stepsons green cards expire on January 23rd (they both received at the same time).

My question is how do they prove legal status after the cards expire? The NOA extends the legal status but how do you get on an airplane? Also my stepsons name doesn't even appear on the NOA only his mothers name, so even with a copy of the NOA in hand how can he prove status?

Here is the information the attorney provided I have much more faith in all of you than her!

As Dima (stepson)has a directive status, he will not be issued a separate Notice. This Notice which you received will be a sufficient evidence of extended status for both. However, if you are planning to travel, Natalia and Dima will need to have temporary stamps (I-551) in their passports. To obtain those, you will have to schedule a InforPass appointment with an immigration office in Phoenix.

By the way the stepson doesn't have a passport as he traveled on his mothers passport...

    Thanks

  4. My understanding is that IR2's receive a green card just like an IR1, so the answer would be that she doesn't need a work permit, she is already authorized to work and just needs to apply for her SSN.
A stepchild (ukrainian) in the US on IR-2 Visa. Can she get SS number and work permit? Is it one of those maybe yes maybe no deals or just a matter of application?

    Thanks! As always!

    Rick

I think it is truly the same as IR-1 but if she wants to work now (before the green card) she can just use the IR-2 visa? The SS office told her she might get a SS # might not... Were they just being jerks?

    Thanks

  5. Just wait and wait and wait! Lots of email! In the course of waiting my fiance and I sent over 1100 emails and hundreds of phone calls. We are much closer because of the wait and the written communication!

    Good luck

    Rick

I finally mailed the I-129F package overnight express! Hopefully no RFE's..

It was so stressful, checking, double checking, notarizing, preparing... blah blah blah..

But now what do I do?

    Just wait.

    and wait.

I don't know which is worse being too busy preparing, or just waiting. Fortunately it's the Vermont Service Center.

  6. If I understand correctly you enter the destination country with your passport from your country of citizenship but return to the US on your green card? The information on the Delta site is a little sketchy as it seems to differentiate between 2 year card and 10 year card in some places but not in others.

"if stay outside U.S.A. was less than 1 year and coming from the Western Hemisphere: <<you need>>Permanent Resident/Resident Alien Card (Form I-551)." Is the 2 year card as good as the 10 year card in this case?

Greetings all. My lovely wife received her green card about a year ago (conditional). Can she travel internationally with just the green card?

    Thanks

    Rick

She can travel anywhere she was able to travel before with her passport. She will still need a valid passport from the country of her citizenship. The green card ensures she'll have no trouble returning to the US. If she needed a visitors' visa for certain countries before, she'll still need it now. Hope that answers your question. :)

Hi Margot - Quick question, my wife also recently received her conditional two year Green Card and will be travelling back home to visit Family. I'm a little confused on whether or not we need to get a re-entry permit or not? Any thoughts on why someone would need a re-entry permit or is it totally fine for her to go home for a month?

    Thanks!

I know you were not asking me, but I know the answer, so I will reply :)

If she's going to be staying with her family for over a year, then she will need a re-entry permit. Otherwise - no. (there are exceptions to that, but in general, that's how it works).

What good would a green card do if it didn't allow you to return to the US without any additional papers?

  7. As soon as the green card arrives, you can throw away the AP and EAD card. (I saved mine as a souvenir).

Since your wife will probably get a conditional green card, she will still have to deal with removing conditions 3 months before the 2nd anniversary of her green card.

    Congratulations and best wishes!

What will we need to do to go on vacation out of the country? Can she get a passport or does the "green" card work?
