  1. I got a temporary permanent resident (GREEN) card on December 31st 2007. It is only a two year card after which I thought I could get citizenship. Having read some information here and read other information online it looks like I can't apply for three years?

I am not being lazy - just worried that I have made a mistake somewhere - why would my card expire before I could get citizenship - is this normal?

Can someone show me a link to a normal timeline?

    Thanks in advance,

    Phily

  2. hey I got a police check done at my local police station - at the time they told me it could take up to 40 days before it would even be processed - there was also a 10 pound fee. If you have lived at multiple locations you are supposed to have checks from the different towns you lived (but to me this just slows things up).

It may also help if you know someone on the force or know a local councillor or something who can give things a nudge - worked for me anyway.

    Good luck

  3. I have been to London 3 times this year and each time debated whether to mention I was visiting my boyfriend and then later fiance. Each time I end up saying I'm here for a vacation, which is entirely true as well. Plus, I always brought with me a copy of the NOA1, which is all I have right now, just in case they wanted proof that I was definitely going back home. Of course, my trip(s) was only for, at the most, one month. Sometimes they did want to see my return flight information. I hope to go and be in the country when he has his interview and bring him home, so there is likely to be another trip to the UK in the next few months.. hopefully soon!

But like someone else mentioned, I usually have more probing questions upon return to the states. Its easier going into the UK than to come home!

Be prepared to stay a while after the interview. Time from the interview to actually receiving the visa isn't overnight, mine took a while.

    But good luck!

I was very shocked too at how the above poster was treated at the airport - didn't know this happened.

  4. Hey question for someone / everyone / anyone who can help.

We filed for AOS in Sep, so far I have received the work permit, but no news of the Green card interview. Is this normal in other's experience?

Looking at people's time lines, not everyone has an actual Green Card interview - is this true?

I have a Wedding in February to attend at home in Ireland, realistically what do people think my chances are of having a Green card before then (based on my time line).

    Thanks,

    Phily

  5. Hey guys,

Hoping to get some help here.

Had the K1 - came in, got married and picked up and EAD in JFK on the way. Got my social.

Applied for change of status and currently waiting for Greencard interview. Had my biometrics at the weekend.

Question is - can I still work while I wait on the greencard and extended EAD?

Do the government expect you to work for 3 months prior to marriage and remain unemployed until your Greencard comes or what are people's experience?

    Thanks in advance

  6. I don't understand why some people are annoyed about what I said about only getting to spend 90 days with your fiancee before you get married.

Its called an "engagement" people. And you should enjoy it.

We have as much right as everyone else on this planet to an engagement, to spending quality time with each other in preparation for our marriage. You don't have the rest of your life to prepare for your marriage - you have you engagement period. Emails and phonecalls only go so far - spending quality time together cannot be replaced by anything.

This isn't an attack on people who don't have this opportunity - its my personal opinion. I think the engagement has importance in my relationship and this whole Visa process takes that away.

We are not going to do the courthouse thing. We are both committed Catholics and are getting married in a Church, before God. But each to their own - if thats what you want to do - good luck.

  7. They'll deliver it where ever you want them to. They give you a slip of paper where you fill in your details whilst in the Embassy and, as a rule, the visa takes roughly a week (some come earlier, some later).

Give them your home address and go wait for it there. I DON'T suggest you give them your hotel's address...

I agree with this, it may come soon, it may not and I would not give them the hotel address. Give them your home address, go home and it'll arrive :D

Thanks for the info guys - its not what I wanted to hear but hey.

Its a bit of a soul destroying process people. To get to spend only 90 days with your Fiancee before you are married is #######.

Obviously we had last year before Adrienne went home and when I was in USA but its not ideal is it.

I know it will all be worth it in the end but the US Immigration really do push you to the limit.

Without our prayer life, emails and phone calls we never would have made it.....

  8. Hey guys and gals - I have my Interview in London in June and on the letter I received it says I need to bring £13.50 for a courier.

Does anyone know if the Visa will be brought to me on the same day (my appointment is at 10am on a Friday morning) or will it be brought to me the following Monday? I don't really fancy stying in a hotel in London from Thursday through to Monday.....

Any knowldege of UK interview would be really appreciated

    Thanks!

    Phily C

  9. I couldn't agree more about the shout out to everyone that helps along the process at VJ and the guides for reference.

As far as the required / recommended materials to be taken to the interview; besides the documents listed on the page that TracyTN posted .. it seems to be recommended that you have all of the documents (originals) that were submitted by the petitioner to the USCIS (you definately want to review this information extensively before the interview)

Here are a couple of more links that may be helpful

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS, MEDICAL INFORMATION, ASSOCIATED LINKS

So How big a deal is it if my Fiancee sent the originals in her original application and I only have the copies?

Her pack was amazing - very organised but she over looked the fact that you had to keep the originals :(

I hope it doesn't mess things up for us!

  10. Hello All,

Congrats to all of you who are making it work and seeing the results. My fiance and I are on our way, but it seems every time we turn around, there's another obstacle! But we just keep trekking along...

So I have some questions: this affidavit of support.... anyone going thru it? Any help/advice on how to get it processed the first time around?

I have a full-time job, make enough to make the poverty guidelines right now, but I'm concerned about the submitting of the past 3 years of tax return forms. I was a student up until May 2005 and didn't really work that much- didn't make that much. Will that effect this form? Can I explain that with it?

    Please help!

  11. Guys we are totally baffled - we have been asking advice but maybe in all the wrong places about what happens after I get my K1 Fiance Visa to enter the USA. So here are my questions - hopefully some of you can answer some of them:

Can I work as soon as I arrive in the USA and up until we get married?

Do I need to obtain a work permit?

If so, can this be done easily?

What is this sponsor document all about? I am worried because I don't know anything about it? If my fiancee does not have sufficient finances top support me - can her Father act as my sponsor for example?

Guys I just want to say thanks in advance for any answers.

    Philip

  12. Hey guys I can't believe it - we just got our NAO2 today by mail and email notification! We only filed like 3 weeks ago!

So what happens now - how long does it take from here on in (by other people's experience)??

I looked at the time lines and I am figuring on 3 months max - but we have learned in the past not to count our chickens!

    We're so excited!

    One step closer everyday!

    Good luck to everyone else!

  13. Well sorry for rocking the boat - but where i am from if you post something like that up - you are agreeing with it unless you state otherwise - which you did not dude

OK I got rubbed up the wrong way but we are a proud nation and nobody likes to have their country brandished wrongly.

Cocaine is a problem in certain parts of Ireland - particularly in big cities - but there are places in Ireland where people still drive tractors and roads are dirt and grass!

Just don't want people to get the wrong idea!

    oops

  14. OK read what you just wrote down again PAL - 45 notes were tested in Dublin City Centre - Cocaine showed up on all 45 of these notes - this does not equate to Cocaine being on 100% of bank notes in the country!!!

Yeah its all around - but cocaine is not easier to get than Guinness - wise up - wake up and stop trying to run a country down because one little area is messed up - if that was the case should we say every male in America is a criminal because we surveyed 45 males in a bad neighbourhood - get real.
