  1. My green card expires on 12/23/20. I filed for a new green card/ form I-751
October 1, 2020. After that, I first received an extension for 18 months, followed by an extension for 24 months. I did my biometrics appointment and the current status is, that I have to wait to be scheduled for an interview appointment (as of November 2021).
I did not realize that my green card was expiring 12/23/22 even WITH the extension until I got to Germany to visit my family. (I know, very stupid) I was not planning to
travel back until the 30th of December.  I would like to try to get another extension. If I have to I will travel back before my green card expires I will for sure do that. But either way my residency status will expire soon.

I am a little worried that the process got confusing because I applied, while waiting, for the new green card for the N-400/citizenship and have already done my biometrics appointment for that this summer. Both processes are kind of running in parallel right now.
It is impossible to speak to a representative when calling the USICS office and the automated messages are not helpful in my case.

I am thankful for any tips on how I actually get a real person on the phone when calling usics or who best to contact.

  2. I don’t know for sure how the delay works or if it does. But our friends just filed their CR-1 and will also live in Europe for at least one more year. Never the less they want the process to be over with. So they will have their interview soon and have to travel to the states/ enter the country with the 6 months of the medical exam. As far as I know you don’t have to move there right anyway. Just need to enter the country. Does anyone else know more about this? I am just talking from what I heard from my friends.  Please make sure that you can do it that way.

  3. Hi,

i don’t have the exact timeline but we started filing our CR-1 in begin of August. I just had my interview in Frankfurt on the 3rd of December. I am reading everywhere even on their website that they send the passport back within 10 days. It has been more than 10 business days and I don’t know what’s going on. They just told me that it’s in the last phase 4 days ago. What ever that means?!

i am really frustrated and hope that I can be back with my husband and his family for Christmas.

Does anyone have recent experiences with the passport return times?
