I went to DMV office today to renew my ID since it will expire on July 7. Everything went well and all documents (extension letter, proof of address, unexpired gc and california id) were accepted. However, when the clerk request approval of my application, it was denied by the supervisor. She was saying that my extension letter is not valid. The clerk didnt hear any of my explanation since it was her boss decision. I asked her : what should i do? Should i just walk around with an expired id and wait for the approval of my gc. She said...yes! Duh!
What I did was, I went back to the initial screening clerk and complained why did she not tell me right away that i cannot apply or renew my id (they can tell my frustration with my voice). Another lady approached me and said that I can. She escorted me back to another clerk. My documents were reviewed again and when she saw that i have a one year extension, she accept it right away. She gave back my docs to the first clerk.
I am now waiting for my ID to arrive in 1 to 2 weeks.
Maybe you just need to assert yourself so they would know what you are talking about.
