I was very surprised to see that the card arrived yesterday in the mail when I got a letter last week saying it will take about 60 days. Hopefully everyone will get theirs very soon, good luck all!

Just checked the new website from USCIS and I got this when I input my receipt number.

On September 23, 2009, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

I'm assuming that means it's approved, right?

I had my interview a year ago and the only thing left is the name check, which has been in process for a year now. I got a letter from Homeland Security today saying it's taken this long because they are still waiting/doing the background check and if I didn't hear anything in 6 months from the date of the letter to contact them. Does anyone know what this is about? Has anyone gotten this letter while waiting for AOS to go through? Is a good sign or really no sign at all??

I never recieved such letter and my wife's name check took a little over a month. I think they check with the country of orgin as well as here, so depending on how much cooperation they have, it may take a while.

So just wanted to update everyone here.

I went with option 2 suggested by eau_xplain, send it back and received an letter after about 3 weeks telling me that it was USCIS's mistake and a new card will be sent to me. I got the card yesterday and it has my wife's correct name. Anyone that has the same problem can IM me or post it here, I'll be happy to answer them.

Your wife can handle it two ways:

1) File an I-90 to have her green card corrected. If you do have documentation to show that your applications are all in her maiden name, then you won't have to pay a fee as it's a mistake by USCIS; or

2) Keep the green card as it is and update her SS card and driver's license to show her married name.

Unless your wife really wants to keep her maiden name, I would suggest you go for option 2 as that's really a lot faster than trying to go through USCIS all over again.

Thanks for the reply. But if I go with option #2, would that cause a problem when we travel? I mean her passport is one name and the green card is another.

Hi all, my wife received her green card finally and we've noticed that they've added my last name on it. Of all the documents we have not one of them had my last name on it. Our marriage cert. only showed my name and her name and we've never changed or added my last name to anything. Both of her SS card and ID card only shows her first and last name so I don't know why USCIS would add my last name to this.

how do we change the name on our utility bills?do we need to call the company and say that we are requesting a change of name in the bill? Also, can my name be added on the cellphone bill and how can we do that? Regarding auto insurance, im not driving yet and i dont have a DL yet, can i be added on the auto insurance just like that?

You can add your name and your finance's name to the utility bills and you don't have to change all of them, just a couple. Yes, you call them and ask the names to be added. If you don't have a DL, you can't be added on the insurance documents.

Interviewed on 9/10 and was told the background check has not completed yet, found out from USCIS website on 10/31 that a welcome letter has been sent out.

I brought a backpack full of documents and it had everything from day 1 as well as joint bank accounts, marriage license, health coverage papers, pictures we took here with relatives, SS card, etc. I was asked for the SS card, marriage license only. The questions were simple such as when did we meet and how, if my wife is working or going to school, how many times I went back to see her, what city did she lived prior to coming here. All in all, the interview lasted shorter than the time I was in the waiting room. And I do agree with Mierda, you should change the names on the utility bills.

You should get all three.

Hi, so does the process go in that ordered? I'm asking because I never did receive the email notice even though I had it on and I stumbled upon by logging into USCIS last night and found out that the welcome letter was sent 2 days ago. Our interview was back on September 10 and even though we've passed, we were told that the background check has not come back yet. Thanks.

Hi all, my wife arrived on her K-1 in April and we've did the marriage and I've sent off the I-485, I-864, G-325a a few days ago. My question is since her I-94 will expire in July, what type of status will she be or will I get something in the mail and show that she's not illegal? Thanks.

Her status will be AOS pending. You will get an NOA showing that she has applied for permanent residence.

I appreciate the information; however, they are not asking me for phone records or emails, etc., they only marked the 2 statement request part where I need to give further information of our relationship and how we met, but it must be hand written. They've also asked for copies of my passport showing the entry and exit stamps, but it states that "All entry and exit dates must be legible.", this is what gets me, some of the stamps are fuzzy and it's not my fault if their people can't stamp it good enough..........

My fiance went for an interview and made a mistake with the month where we met......somehow a lost in translation, in any case, she was told that she is ineligible at this time and must provide more documents such as:

1. Proof that I purchased the plane tickets
   
2. Statements of events of how we met and how we spent time with each other while I was over there.
   

My question is - how many pages do I need to write? I mean I can write a novel if I have to but is it necessary?

My fiance is in China and will have her interview very soon, but my question is, after she receive her visa, will she be able to travel or "step foot" into Hong Kong before coming here in the U.S.? I was thinking because of the long flight from Asia, we may want to spend a couple of days resting and enjoy what HK has to offer. Thanks.
