Thanks for the good advices here! I'll tell them over and over that we aren't rich. Its just a bit frustrating and disappointing when I think about it. When I was a lil over a month here, they were asking me already to make a loan for them or if my husband can make a loan for them here. And everytime they talk to me its always money. They dont even ask how I am, they will tell me the money problem right away. And they dont even make an effort to call or even write or send me pictures(we sent them digital camera but not really appreciated). I dont mind helping them but the asking is getting more and more. My hubby and I are even planning that I will go on vacation next year but im having doubts. They will expect I have lots of money since I can afford to go home and I have work. I just started working a month ago.

Actually, I already told them everything about the expenses, my health situation, that helping them too much might affect my relationship with my hubby. Its not working. They know how much my hubby loves me and he cant say no to me. They keep on telling me that one of the family member is sick and my mothers business isnt doing well (which I know and my mother is the one who also supports the whole family) and they will be kick out of the apartment soon for having overdue payments. Just 2 weeks ago, we sent them $350 and now, they are asking money again and telling me that its not sufficient to cover everything. Arghh, I only wish I have a stone heart. I'm thinking of cutting any communications to them for a while so i wont hear anymore of their grieves.

Its a filipino mentality that once you married an american, they think you are rich and they expect you to send them money. Lots of the filipinos think that americans are a walking checkbook. It is my fault too that everytime they ask, I just give in. Yes, my husband is very supportive of me. Whatever I decide when it comes to my other family, he supports me. My problem is i cant really tell whether they are lying to me or not. I know how bad our situation there but I have my own family now too. I tried telling them that and that I am undergoing chiropractic treatment. It so unfair for my hubby to shoulder everything. He shoulders my health expenses and house expenses. He never ask me to help him instead he tells me that whenever I need help, he's there for me. I feel like I'm unfair and abusing my hubby by helping too much my other family and not helping him. We're almost sending money every month to help them.

Eversince I came here in the US, everytime I talked to my family, money is always the topic. I just wish i could just turn my back on them, but my conscience bothers me. When I was still back home, they asked for my help too and I know the situation. We have a hard life. I really want to help my other family but I cant help my own family here because I send them money everytime they ask help. My husband has been so supportive of me and my family but i dont want to get the point that my family in the Philippines will abused me and my husband. When we talk or text, someone is always sick. Like my niece got bitten by an insect and had to see a doctor. My hubby sent them $400, then when they asked for rental house help, my hubby send them $600, then again rrental house help, $400, then again, enrollment time $350, then again rental house $350(just 2 weeks ago) and last week they were asking me again to send money because my uncle has to undergo surgery and this week my mother is sick and needs help with the house rental again! I cant save anymore because i keep on sending them money and so is my hubby.

What shall I do? I feel like Im the most stupid person because I cant say no to them. I have my own family here too and soon we will have kids. I dont think they understand that we're not rich. We have to work hard to get what we want and we're working very hard. I cant even buy my hubby anything because Im sending them money. I dont know what to do anymore.

Try applying for Amazon (chase) credit card. I just received my credit card last week and after 3 days they increased my credit limit from $500 to $900, that's a good start.

I feel for your fiance. I know how hard it is. I used to work as accountant back home but when I applied for work here, I couldn't get the same job or at least as an accounting clerk. I work now as a cashier in a big store here and I still feel alienated at work too. I know it may take a while, but I'm hoping to be accepted and get the same job here.

Thanks, everyone! I did call this afternoon. The manager said I passed my drug test and background check. On Tuesday, I will have my orientation, finally!

I had my final interview last week with the store manager and was offered a fair salary. I asked him if I'm hired, he said I am, if I will pass the drug test. He referred me to another manager and was told that I will have an orientation on Thursday. But a day before the orientation, he called that I have to go thru the drug test and background check and he forgot to tell me that day. He said that it will only take 3 days to get the results. Its been a week now and I haven't heard anything from them. Should I call them and ask about my application?

Thanks, baby_honey31! I wonder what will happen if they can't find credit history in US? If I remember correctly I read somewhere here that having no credit history, they will not hire you.

I would suppose it is just a US background check. Maybe I'm nieve on this point, but it would surprise me if they go any further than that.. Besides if when you think about it USCIS has done a lot of the work for them really in the AOS process don't you think?

Yah, i guess you're right. My hubby told me they won't go thru that length. When I was talking to the manager this afternoon, he gave me a copy of a form and it says my SSN was verified. They might just verify it with USCIS if I am legally able to work here. Thanks for replying to my post!

As I understand it you arrive in the US with NO credit rating or history here - at all..

I had amazing credit in Canada and the second I came here, i start all over again at the beginning just like i'm 18 and fresh out of high school. None of my credit even in Canada counts here nada.

If someone ran a US credit check on me they would find nothing.. except a few tumble weeds and buzzerds.

Hi, Emancipation! yap, I dont have any credit history here, I don't even have any bank or credit card account here. Back in the Philippines, I made sure I paid all my dues on time except for these 2 cases (with my mother and my credit card which was already paid and closed). I'm just worried when the company I applied for run a credit check, they might see these 2 cases and I might not be able to get the job. They told me they were impressed with the interview and exam I took and all they need is the background check so I can start working for them.

During the credit and work background check, do they really check it overseas from where you came from. I have a problem regarding my mother's credit card with a big and famous bank in our country. She made me her extension or supplementary. I didn't know at first that she made a cash advance amounting to 120,000 for which half of it went to the agent of that bank. Everything for falsying papers so she can get higher credit limit and the more she can get bigger amount. I never used that credit card because I wasn't interested and I don't even know how to use the credit card that time. My problem now is I learned that my mother failed to pay the bank on time and they even had hearings about her account. Last year they had an agreement that she'll pay them in lower amount. I thought I was out of that problem, so when I went to that bank to open an account late last year, they declined me because of my mother's past due account and I even saw my name was written there. I know this might sound stupid, but when it comes to financial, I was very helpful with my family. Last year, 2 months before I flew to the US, my sister asked me if she could borrow my credit card to buy stuffs for my nephew. Since it was her first baby, and after she promised me she'll pay it when the billing comes. I trusted her. When the billing statement came, I asked her to pay but she gave me a reason that she can't pay me because her friend borrowed my money. That time the money I have was reserve for my trip going here. On the day I left my country, she promised me that she will pay it the next day but sad to say she didnt. I keep calling her that she had to pay for it and she even lied to me. She said she already made payment and that my account was already closed. I was still not convince with what she told me, I checked online and called the credit card company, it was past due for months. I tried my best if I can pay it here in the US but they told me they dont accept it. I have to designate a person back home to do the settlement. Last February, after I got mad and had a word fight with her, she finally paid it and my account was closed. I called the bank and said my account is really closed. My question is I applied for a company here, they said I will be hired after I passed the drug test, work and credit background check. I am worried because of my mother's bad account with my name as her extension or supplementary and my credit card problem with my sister that is settled now. Will that reflect on the background check they will conduct on me? I am really worried. Hope you can help me with this.

I went to SSA office last week and were told that they will only change your card if you need to change name etc. but they will not remove the annotation unless you are a US citizen.
