Your father can be a joint sponsor, with a household size of 3 - him, his wife and your spouse. But $30k is low - it technically meets the minimum amount needed , but the ultimate decision is made by the CO.

For assets, they are looking for thing that can be liquidated quickly and will not cause undue hardship when liquidated. A primary residence that is also used to house relatives might not meet this requirement.

Thank you for your response! About the household member, correct me if I am wrong, I found this instruction under the i864,

"If necessary to meet the income requirements to be a sponsor, you may include additional relatives (adult children, parents, or siblings) as part of your household size as long as they have the same principal residence as you and promise to use their income and resources in support of the intending immigrants."

That is why I was thinking about adding him into the household size.

Hi all, this is first time posting my concerns in the forum. I have been using VisaJourney to look for my answers for many years and I have always found what I need. But this time I really need you guys to help a little. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. thank you so much!

I am a petitioner (US citizen) who is trying to fill out the i864 (the affidavit of support) for immigrating my spouse to the US. We do not have any children and here is my financial picture:

I am a graduating Ph.D. student studying abroad (not in the US) and my stipend is about $40,000 (US dollar) per year. For the past three years of studying, I have been filing US taxes via foreign income exclusion. So the total income in the tax return is $0. Since the stipend would stop once I graduate and move back to the US, my current income would be $0 as well. I don't have any job offer at this point.
I own a free and clear property (my principal address) in the US with a net worth of about ~$400,000 with my parents living in it.
I also have a saving account of around $70,000.
My father who has lived in our home is making $30,000 per year. My mother and father are filed married jointly and do not have any other dependents.

I am going to use my assets of the property and the savings and also combine my father as a household member to meet the minimal requirement. Does this sound like a very naive affidavit of support for the USCIS? I am trying to do this all on our own without finding a joint sponsor. Please advice. Any suggestion is appreciated. thank you so much!!!

No they just give you a piece of paper called certificate of naturalization. You will use this to apply for a US passport through. There is instruction on how to apply for US passport in the welcoming package.

I didnot bring passport pictures for the interview.

Yea my ceremony is at the courthouse in Madison. How they really schedule these always puzzles me. driving to Milwaukee is no fun but no one wants to go through the reschedule again

I went for an infopass last Thursday asking about the status of my case (it has been in line for oath for 45 days). The officer in the infopass was super nice and explaining me patiently that everything is approved, nothing to be worried about and it is just waiting for the oath ceremony. He said maybe I was put in the line for the big oath ceremony in Madison (once a year). At the end he said I should be expecting an update in one to two weeks. And after three days of the infopass, I did get an update for the oath - the oath was scheduled!!! Not sure if the infopass has any impact on it. and I heard different experience about infopass. Some are helpful and some are not super helpful.

Will add my updates to timeline once I know the date for oath ceremony.

I had my oath ceremony with 65 new citizens from 23 countries by a Federal Judge who is a naturalized citizen herself. 
Checking in with security and USCIS staff took longer than the ceremony itself. 
It was a good time even with the extra time it took for each person to take pictures with the judge.
Glad my immigration journey is over, good luck to everyone still waiting.

I am not supposed to postpone anything either. but I am doing everything to postpone it i think you will be fine. I dont know what is wrong with my case but I will also try to stay positive!

I totally feel you.. I have travel plans that I will need the passport ASAP. Yea I called them too and they actually transferred me to a level 2 officer and the officer told me changing address should not affect my oath ceremony being schedule, so just wait. Let's hold each other's hands and cross finger!! It will all work out!!

Yes. If you live in Chicago then your oath ceremony takes place within 2 weeks!! But south of Chicago....well we just play the waiting game. The dates are set, the next ones are in September then OCtober and thats it for the year. And there seems to be no rush to get us processed. I contacted my local office and they said they just do what Chicago tells them to do. I hoped to get moved back to Chicago - thats where my N400 interview was, but apparently it can't be done. They are administrative ceremonies and we have to have a Judiscial ceremony and Urbana has jurisdiction. It is a farce! As the Senate's office said...."welcome to America!"

Oh this sounds no fun..... how long have you been waiting?

Wow Congratulations! I do not have any updates on my case. Changed the address last week, but still in Wisconsin, not sure if that is why.

First she took my biometrics, I swore the oath and then took the civic test. My 6 questions were:

2. How many senators do we have

3. When was the constitution written

4. Name one country that borders Canada

5. At what age do men sign up for selective service

For reading and writing I read “who is on the dollar bill” and wrote the answer given by the IO “Washington is on the dollar bill”.

She scanned all my answers into the computer and then went through the yes or no questions, correcting a few errors. I signed on the iPad set up in front of me in two places - 1 for the corrections and another agreeing to take the oath of allegiance and that was it.

I was told my oath taking will be in a month if not before. I asked why no same day oath-taking ceremonies and she explained that Wisconsin does only judicial ceremonies and the court likes to receive the names of Bose attending ahead of time in order to prepare.

I was done in 20 mins and my profile updated on the egov site twice immediately saying my application was recommended for approval and then another saying “oath ceremony will be scheduled” 10 mins later. myuscis has no update yet. I expect that will happen tomorrow. I’m so happy to have passed the interview and be near the end.

Congratulations! We might be in the same ceremony haha!

My interview was yesterday too. and my online status in the USCIS account changed to "Approved" and "Oath ceremony will be scheduled" this morning. The case status however was changed to "Oath ceremony will be scheduled" right after my interview.

Just had my interview today at 8:30 AM and almost could not make it due to the traffic going into Milwaukee. IT WAS TERRIBLE! Got to the field office 15 minutes before the scheduled time. All the staff are super friendly. I waited there for half an hour and my name was called. The officer went through the application and asked the civic test questions. Upon approval, she told me I am placed in line for the oath ceremony. I was told that the one in July might be full now so I will need to wait for the August one. So close to the finish line and wish everyone good luck!

Oh That is pretty fast! I could not get into my online account.. (stuck on the backup code page). Called them and they asked me to make a new account. Oh well i will wait for the letter then. Thank you!!

I got my fingerprint in Nov 2017 from Milwaukee WI local office and today finally my case is updated with interview scheduled! What a long wait! Best luck for all of us!
