  1. Many people suggest using ACCO fasteners, and it makes sense because USCIS punches two holes etc etc. But, I was wondering if it really matters or not. I mean, I didn't know about ACCO fasteners, so I was preparing my documents with bunch of Post-its and folders. (One folder contains the I-130 package, another contains the I-485 package, and another contains the I-765 package... All the documents are labled with Post-its.) Do you think it is okay to send it that way, or I should go buy some ACCO's? Any opinions? Thanks.

  2. Hi,

I was writing a cover letter, and a question came up.

I am supposed to write down my local USCIS office address (according to the i129 sample cover letter), but what would that be if I was applying for AOS concurrently with i130? Is it the lockbox in Chicago, or California Service Center? (I live in California.)

The same question applies in #22 of I-130.

"Your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident at the USCIS office in: _______, _______."

What should I put in these blanks??

What is confusing me is, I am sending my packet to Chicago, but I live in California...

Can anyone clarify this for me?

    Thank you.

  3. Thanks.

Co-sponsor...? meaning Joint Sponsor?? Are they the same thing?

If we have a joint-sponsor who makes enough money, we don't have to worry about the assets, either, right? But, her I864 form looks like so unnecessary... She's unemployed. Her income is zero. No assets...

Anyway, I'm guessing USCIS doesn't care where the money is coming from as long as we have enough...?

  4. questions afther questions.....

Well, the title kind of explains it.

My USC wife doesn't have a job yet, because she just graduated from college.

Her sister is going to be our joint sponsor. Some questions came up as we were filling out I864.

My understanding is that, both my wife (even though her income is $0) and her sister are going to fill out I864 separately. Is that correct?

Is my wife going to put "unemployed" and "$0" for her annual income? (That looks pretty bad... I guess that is the reality...)

As long as we prove that our joint sponsor has enough money, USCIS doesn't consider my wife's income, right? Well, I hope so.

  5. Hello.

I was filling out i485, and I don't know what to put for my "Current Status."

I was a student (F-1) and graduated a year ago. I applied for work permit (OPT), but my i765 was denied because it was filed after the deadline. I have been an overstayer since then.

The question is, again, what my current status (and it's expiration date) is...

    Thanks.

Also, I shouldn't have an Alien #, should I?? I just want to make sure...

  6. thanks yu and dan

i was reading the instructions in the i485 form, and i found this under "where should you file form i485?"

"File this application at the USCIS service center or local office that has jurisdiction over your place of residence, or submit the form to the USCIS Lockbox Facility..."

    What does this mean...

By the way, can anyone answer the question about transferring? Is my application going to be transferred to CSC, or I can just send it to CSC from the beginning?? Confusing...

  7. So, I’ve read the guidelines and application forms etc. and found out that I have to send the documents (for AOS) to the office in Chicago, although I live in California. Is that correct? I just want to make sure before I do something stupid…

If those who are filing for AOS have to send the paperwork to the office in Chicago, why are there processing times for AOS in the website - "USCIS California Service Center Processing Dates."

    https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/Proc...nter=California

Do the office in Chicago distribute the applications back to wherever the applicants live or something? Is that what “transferring to CSC” means? I am just confused.

    Thank you.

p.s. I feel really stupid, but it took a little while to find out what AOS stands for when I first started this visa journey... Please bear my ignorance.

  8. Hi everyone,

There are A LOT of questions I want to ask, as you all know...

I graduated last december (F-1), and applied for a work permit (EAD) but got denied because it was filed after the deadline. I ended up staying here illegally until now...

My girlfriend and I are thinking about getting married and starting the process to obtain a green card.

I did some researches, but there are some things I am not sure about.

First, how likely will USCIS approve i130 for overstayed people like me?

Second, am i eligible for adjust of status? (My main concern is my unlawful presence for almost 12 months...)

Third, does USCIS count days as unlawful while AOS is pending? In other words, IF I got denied and decided to leave the states, would I have to face the 10-year bar? Or 3-year bar?

    Thanks.
