So, once the family members of the US Citizen have received their Visa's, what happens next. Obviously, come to the USA. But, after landing and entering in the country, what are the next steps in the process??? Once they get through Customs/Immigration, and are sitting in the house, what do they do next?

Work authorization?

Social Security numbers?

Adjustment of Status?

Permanent Resident application?

What is the process and steps after they get here? Thank you!!!

Hello all ... my wife's parents have been formally invited to the US Embassy in Ukraine for their Interview to enter the USA. I have a few questions about the Interview Letter and the associated Document Status Codes.

1) The letter says that the applicant MUST bring Two Passport Photos ... but, the Photography code below designates a "Y" -- which means it's already been sent by NVC to the US Embassy. So, does the applicant still bring another two passport photos???

2) Similarly to #1, the letter says to bring a valid unexpired passport ... but, the Passport code below designates a "Y" -- which means it's already been sent by NVC to the US Embassy. So, does the applicant still bring the passport???

3) Some documents have a code of "F" -- which means, the NVC did not request this form or document. But, does the applicant still need to provide this?

It's a bit confusing. Can someone shed some light onto this topic for me. Thanks!

Penguin_ie -- when you say string things out for a year, are you saying to just 'take your sweet ol time' sending things back in and responding to NOA?

Anyway, at this point, my FIL's application has been approved (received first I-797 NOA). The current actions are:

- establish communication with the NVC

- pay the Affidavit of Support (AOS) processing fee ($88.00 USD)

How much longer does my FIL have to go (estimate)???

My MIL hasn't yet been approved (we applied for both on the same day).

What happens if you start the Green Card process for a relative, without thinking too much about the minimum financial requirements of the Affidavit of Support, only to determine you don't have enough resources to support them, and can't continue the process. What happens then? Does the application go in limbo? Can you delay it until a later time? How would you cleanly, 'postpone' the process? Just curious ...

My wife (now a USC) is petitioning for her parents to come to the USA. She does not have the income levels required by the terms in the I-864, so I will need to co-sponsor. Does anyone know how this is done. Would both my wife and I complete separate I-864 forms? When does form I-864A come into play?

My wife (now a USC) recently completed the applications to bring both of her parents to the USA via the Green Card process. When does the I-864 form come into play? And, does she file that, or do I (the husband) do that? Of course, I guess it is based on income, correct?

Finally, how long are you legally financially responsible under the terms of the I-864? Forever?

the i485 is only to adjust status in country. they don't need it because they will go through consular processing and not adjust in the US.

she will need to file an i130 for each of them, parents petitions are filed separatly. all family petitions start with the i130 to establish a relationship between the petitioner and the benificiary, if they are elegible based on the relationship. that's why she will need a copy of her birth ceritificate for each parent to show that their names are indeed on her birth certificate and that they are her biological parents.

OK. If both are approved, what happens next? If they are approved, can they just get the Visa and fly over? Or, are there more steps? When does the I-864 come into play? Thanks!

Hello. I'm confused a bit about the difference between the I-130 and I-485. My wife (now a USC) would like to bring her parents over to the USA as permanent residents. I was under the impression that the I-130 would do that. But then, I see that the I-485 also needs to be completed. So, what exactly does the I-130 do?

I should mention that my wife is living inside the USA and both parents are outside the USA

During the Citizenship interview, my wife did not mention he possible desires to change her name. However now, we are seriously considering it. We should be receiving her court date here in a week or so. Is it too late to try to process the name change? Would that potentially affect her court date?

At what point must a naturalized US citizen surrender his/her birth country (or current citizenship) passport (assuming not planning for Dual Citizenship)? At the US Naturalization Oath ceremony in the Court? Please advise. Thanks!

My mother-in-law (Ukraine) is 0 for 2 in trying to get a visitor's Visa to USA to visit us. My wife should have her citizenship here in a few months. At that point, she can petition her (with me as a co-sponsor). Do requests/applications to bring family members of USC to America (for a visit) become less scrutinized than when my wife was a Permanent Resident?

Hello. My wife (recently issued 10-year GC) and I (USC) would like to invite both my mother and sister-in law (both Ukraine citizens) to the US on a B2 Tourist/Pleasure Visa. My mother-in-law was invited once back in 2009 (post our marriage), but denied for no reason. My sister-in-law was also denied once as we invited her to our wedding. So, we now want to attempt Round #2 for each of them -- not together, but sepatately.

First question group: As the USC/petitioner, what documents do I need to supply? Letter of Invitation to both as well as Letter of Invitation written to the US Embassy in Ukraine? I think that is it? Do I need to provide my tax return information? Copies of US Passport? Bank information? Etc.?

Second question group: For those that have successfully obtained a B2 Visa from the Kiev embassy, what worked for you? What documents do you recommend my mother/sister in-law's supply themselves?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance for your input and comments!
