  1. My mother in law applied for a tourist visa from Bulgaria. She was denied twice, and 3rd time I involved the congressman who sent a letter to the embassy in Sofia and they gave her a visa for one year. I am active duty in the military and she came to support me while giving birth to her only grandson - since I had to go back to work a couple weeks after giving birth - I didn't really had to - I wasn't forced to, but I had to finish a job that was super important.

She stayed 6 months and she just returned back home. Her visa expires in July and she would like to come back the last 2 months before her visa expire since she doesn't know if she will ever get another visa. She wants to come back at the end of May and return to Bulgaria one week before her visa expire in July. I, on the other hand, believe that her coming back will affect her chances to get another visitors visa in the future. They will say - well you almost stayed the whole year there... I would love for her to spend some more time with her grandson, but I do not want to jeopardize her chances to ever coming back here. What are your thoughts? Am I right or wrong? Would her camming back affect her future visas? Thank you!

  2. No harm filing, who knows what he might want to do.

I know but at the time he was well establish in Europe and never thought things would change. 7 years later he has 2 kids and his perspective in life changed too. When I filed for my sister I didn't have $400 just laying around so I didn't, thinking about what is the point spending money if my brother said he'd never come to the US? I should have known better and invested the money... Now he'd give anything to come here... Unfortunately he will have to wait another 8-10 years for that to happen.... Lesson learned.

  3. I am active duty in the Navy. My husband is from Bulgaria and my family is also in Europe. I am stationed stateside. My mother in law applied for a visitors visa last year and was denied without even having the paperwork (including the invitation letter) looked at. In 30 seconds she was told her visa was denied. At the moment I am pregnant with our first child and after one month after I give birth, my orders in this state are ending and i will be moving across the country to a new duty station with a new born. I also don't have any family here to help me during the birth or be in the delivery room with me. My husband faints when he sees blood so thats not an option. I would love to have my mother in law come here to help me with the baby and the move for 2-3 months. What can I do to convince the embassy clerks that she WILL return to her country in 2-3 months. After all she is taking care of her elderly mother in Bulgaria so she really cant stay too much here anyway. Thank you for all your answers. My mother in law is 53 years old.

  4. Okay so I applied for my sister I-130 in 2008. She passed away from cancer last year. I have a brother who lives abroad who I would like to change her name on the petition with his name so we don't have to start over again. I called USCIS and NVC and they keep telling me to call the other agency. I cannot get a clear answer if that can be done. The petition was approved in 2009 but a visa was not issued yet because of the visa limitation. I wonder if its possible to change my sister name with my brothers on the same petition???
