I did. I've had it for 5 yrs already but I needed to come back and we're still not sure how long we're staying and not sure if we can do an annual visit back.

On April 27, 2005, you received your 2-year Green Card. That's more than half a decade ago. Now you are applying for the second consecutive Reentry permit (each valid up to 2 years) and you ask about a biometrics appointment. Let me ask you this: if a green dog and a blue rabbit get into a fight, do you think it will rain heavier in South Carolina or in Alaska on Februar 16, 2011?

I only got my 1st re-entry permit expires on Nov 6. We came back because my mom wasn't well and we'd like to hang around more since things with family still aren't that great yet - hence the desire to get another permit unti we know better what's going on. We have work commitments now though so staying for an unknown period of time isn't going to work. I think as long as I am there to get my biometrics done, I can leave after that and have my in-laws mail me my permit after it's approved. In some earlier threads, people were mentioning that they've walked-in to get their biometrics done. I'm also guessing that that's after they know they're application's been received and they got their NOA?

Anymore insights would be helpful. From past experience, calling USCIS would probably get me some standard "it all depends" answer from the officer. :-(

Has anyone recently applied for a re-entry permit and gotten the appointment for the biometrics within 3 weeks? this'll be my 2nd re-entry permit I'm applying for (sequential).

Hi, we are anticipating being gone but we're not sure it'll be a year yet but in looking up the I-131 form I have a few questions and hope some of you have been or are in the same situation:

1) processing time lines say they're only NOW processing Nov 07 applications! There are instructions for expediting the process by sending pre-paid envelopes but it sounds like they're not even opening apps post Nov 07 yet. Is anyone still waiting?

2) the issue of biometrics - am i really needing to get finger-printed again?? this'll be the 3rd time I'm doing this....!!!

3) I'm still researching to see if there are any options for re-entry in the event I don't make it back within the year (ie. I get pregnant and can't travel and didn't intend to be gone so long) so I'd appreciate any of your experiences if you've been in this situation.

There's a possibility that we may go back to Singapore for a few months to a year soon. Has anyone done that while in posession of their 10-yr GC? If anyone has any experience in this, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I just returned from Singapore and had no problems going either way. There was some careful reading of the letter during check-in on both sides. When I got back, I had about 14 days before the end of my extension. The immigration officer asked how long ago I submitted my paperwork and I told him almost a year ago and he said "a year???" then let me through.. that was it. I my POE was Seattle this time. I'm sure some other airports might've treated the situation differently but I think that if you bring the ORIGINAL extension letter together with your expired greencard, they really have no grounds to give you a hard time if you return before the extension is expired.

My employer refused to accept my US passport when I was hired three months ago. They wanted my social security card and state ID. Legally they should not have done that. I did point out to them that all that was required was the passport. They asked me to give them the social security card anyway because they needed it for tax records. I decided to drop it then. I could have protested, but I'm sure they could have found some reason not to hire me.

Wow, that's bad. It CLEARLY stipulates that they are not allowed to tell you what they want to see. Was it a small company or maybe the person who verified your documents was not used to anything else other than seeing the SSC and DL (which is what most people show). You are right though, they probably would've found some other reason to not to hire you if you protested.... or made your work-life miserable if you did and they did hire you anyway.

Not ready to do that yet... besides, that's a big chunk of $$ that we're not sure we want to spend yet.

Other than the money (which is understandable), why are you not ready?

There's a slight possibility that we may want to live in Singapore for a while... we've not explored the possibility/implications yet so we want to keep status quo for now.

I work in a big company. I think if I do not "remind"them, they would never noticed that my greencard is expiring. I was doing my part to prevent any unwanted consequences. Although my husband thinks I should not have reminded them.

If she refuses to verify, I will have to do in Infopass to get I-551 stamp. This is my plan so far.

Can you get a SSC without the notification? that would probably be something good to have for the future.

I dug around somemore to try to understand for myself.... and you might just be ok.

Here's the Employer's Manual. Check out Section 7, Q33's "NOTE:" section in italics.... I think you should be ok, just as mawilson said.

Don't wanna bust your hopes, but that guy seems delusional. In your timeline, you give 2007-05-01 as your NOA date (and mention a RFE). Nebraska hasn't managed to process some I-751s from January (mine is from February). I recommend that you forget about a speedy processing and make a note in your calendar to get a I-551 before your extension period expires.

I just did some research on a few things, so here's what I'm piecing together:

1) since I am currently employed, it is my responsibility to update my I-9 whenever my employment authorization expires and I receive an extension (NB: the NEW I-9 form (rev 6/5/2007) states that although what is currently stated in this document regarding employment verification says otherwise because it looks like it is based on the older I-9 (see section on "Green Cards").

2) If I plan to travel outside of the country and return after the initial extension date, then that would be another reason to extend the extension

My question is.... how do I get that extension?

Oh dear... i can't find my biometrics letter! I got it done and probably thought there was no need for it anymore! Anyone know if Ican get a copy of it?

I don't know - but we scan everything (letters, passports etc) and keep it in a file in the computer...also keep the letters in a fire-proof box (along with all important docs, passpirts etc) If not I'd never find anything...

Well, I ACTUALLY got to talk to a live person at USCIS!!! (praise God!) And he told me that the LIN number I have on my NOA1 is still good. He also eluded to the fact that I should be getting my new card by February.... I sure HOPE SO!! :-)

November 19 and still no update. Someone past Jan 27 must have been approved by now... surely....?

We were planning to trip to Singapore in March but without knowing if there is going to be an interview, its going to be hard to plan. And if we come back past my extension date in end April, will I have a hard time re-entering? I don't really want to get a re-entry permit seeing how everything's gotten so much more expensive recently!
