Hello everyone. I just added my entry for VSC. Been busy so it was delayed. I mailed out our packet on the 2nd and it arrived the 3rd. The check was cashed on the 8th so we are just waiting for the NOA1 letter in the mail.
Best wishes to all!

What can I say, I am truly happy now. My Cuban fiance arrived to the US on the 20th of June. It has been quite a journey for both of us but now we are so happy that we are finally together. We both give great praise to God for everything working out so well. He and I met in Cancun and flew to JFK airport together so that he could receive his temporary EAD. The border agent was very nice and after the agent went through the vanilla packet he sent us to a second room for my fiance to receive his work permit stamp and we thought further questioning. It was only two other people there and my fiance was called up immediately. We thought that he was going to be asked many questions and that we would be there for a long time but the agent just handed him his passport back with the I-94 stamped and said "Welcome to America" and we went on our merry way overjoyed that it was so simple.
We can only thank God for everything going so smoothly.
Well we are settling in here together and are going to enjoy these precious moments that we have waited so long for.
Thanks for all of your well wishes and Best wishes to all who are still on the journey to unite with you loved one(s).

I am so happy now. I just heard from my fiance that he went to pick up his carta blanca today or yesterday at this hour, the 4th. He made his flight reservations also and will fly to Cancun on the 20th then on to JFK. We will finally be together, thank you God!
It has been a long two months wait since he got the visa approved. Not much longer now. So soon we will be added to the growing list of satisfied VJ couples who have endured a fulfilling journey. Thank you VJ and all who are a part of this wonderful website.
All waiting Cuban VJers, your time is coming soon. God bless!

Congratulations!! You have been truly blessed. I have not been able to get in touch with my fiance either to see if he has been approved yet. But I wish you the best of everything with your relationship and the remaining processes. Keep in touch and keep us in your prayers for a soon approval.

Thank you so much for your comments and continual support. You are definitely in my prayers and I know that soon he will has his approval and be with you again. Any way you look at God is amazing because He has given us a true love that will outlast time. Hang in there and I will definitely keep in touch, so you do the same. Oh and I forget where you are at, Florida?
Rebex
Thanks for your prayers. I am in Maryland, in the Washington, DC area. I called my fiance and he was told that he may receive his carta blanca soon. I'm just waiting on his e-mail to let me know.
By the way I just read that the immigration fees are going up, are you two going to try to get married and beat the increased fees by July 30? I can't believe we will have to pay approx. $1000 to adjust status after we marry.
Anyway, God's blessings to the both of you.

It's so good to have him here! Exactly 7 1/2 months from filing. Hardest part was the carta blanca which took 2 months. He was so excited when he received it on Wednesday, that rather than wait to get on a Cancun flight with a connection to JFK, he caught the first thing smoking which happened to be a flight to Miami on Thursday. He had no problems there and even made some friends in the airport. Wish he could have gotten the EAD at JFK, but we'll deal with it. Now on to the AOS process...
Best to those still waiting. To those with loved ones in Cuba, it may not take as long for you to get the carta blanca. My fiance had to do paperwork in 2 viviendas because he wasn't living at the address on his carnet. Hope to see you all soon on the other side of VJ.
pocamuela
Wow!! I am so happy for you. I hope you two enjoy your new life together. I can understand why he wanted to get to you as soon as possible since the carta blanca took so long.
My fiance is still waiting for his carta blanca. When he gets it he will be flying out on Mexicana through Cancun to JFK so that I can fly with him. Well we hope to be together soon as you two are now.
Best wishes and we will see you on the AOS side of VJ.

So as things would go... he won't actually get all his paperwork and visa until Monday due to a broken machine or something like that. But who is complaining? Not I. He ended up waiting about an hour to actually get inside the interest section office and then from 8-12:30 to actually be called into the interview. He was one of the last ones, like 41 or 50 he said. The guy who did the interview really did not ask him much at all not even my name or address or anything like that. I think the questions were:
1. How and when did we meet?
2. Did I have any visits at my house this past year? (We had two exchange students here last year... so real bizare question that maybe they knew about or some freaky coinsidence)?
Then he was approved. He said they looked over all that he brought, but was approved quickly. After that the guy asked him where we would live and if we were from the same church... but that was it. Michael did say that the other people got asked tons of questions however and some people actually got their visas today, but after waiting again for an hour and a half the people waiting were told to come back another day and given an open pass to get back in. And that was that.
He will go back on Monday to hopefully find everything ready and then be able to start the carta blanca process. Once he gets that then he will buy the ticket to Miami and I will have to get a ticket from Miami to Denver. So we are hopeful that within a month he is here!!!
Thanks to all of you for your well wishes!!!
Praise the Lord!
This is awesome news! Congratulations to you both. I prayed for you two the night before your interview for success. I know that you will have a wonderful life once you are together. Best wishes in all of your next steps and keep us informed of your progress. I think you have set a record in this forum for the fastest approval from Cuba. Let's pray that our Carta Blanca steps are quicker.

Thanks to all for the input. I will do more research and now it looks like I will try to find ways to wire him the money... or have friends and family do it as well (due to limits set by US government). If anyone has any more information I would love to hear it. Thanks so much!!!
Hi Rebex05,
I will tell you what I did for my fiance. I sent him $500.00 through the same remittance program via Western Union. You are allowed to send him a total of $1000.00 to emigrate to US, $500 before the Visa and $500 after he gets it. Since My fiance just received his Visa now I can send him the last $500.00. The only catch is that after this money is sent to him you are not legally authorized to send him anymore money ever. His family can receive it from family members in the US but he can't receive anymore money from anyone in the US through this remittance process.
You have to call Western Union to see which location in your area actually does these Cuban remittances because they don't all do them. I don't know if you have done one before but they have you fill out and sign a remittance affidavit. Here is a link for the form they will present to you:
http://www.treas.gov/offices/enforcement/o...ms/caffidav.pdf
I hope this helps.
Best wishes.

Thanks so much. That is the path I was looking at taking with Western Union (as it is pretty much the only agency here in Colorado that I have found to do remittances, but he will have to check out to see where he will be able to get the money. So once he has the full 1000 only he will not be able to receive any more money... not necessarily family correct? We have other options as his sister-in-law is now in Spain for a few weeks and may be able to take money when she heads back in a few weeks. Just have to figure out all the details. So is it easier to have your fiance but the plane tickets there? Thanks to much for the help.
Correct, only he will not be allowed to technically, legally receive anymore money through this remittance process because it has been documented with the Affidavit that he has received the maximum amount to immigrate to US. His family is still eligible to receive US dollars every 3 months from immediate family members in the US.
I was told by a travel agent that my fiance would have to purchase the ticket there but I am trying to verify this with another agency. If I find out more I will let you know.
Your interview date is coming up soon are you exited?
Best wishes!

Thank you God we have been approved.
I am sooooo happy! My sweetheart is overjoyed. He was approved yesterday and went to pick up his visa this afternoon. To all of VISAJOURNEY thank you so much. We couldn't have done this without all of the information posted here. To all Cuban fiances you have been truly helpful with the details of your cases that it helped us to get approved without any RFEs or unnecessary delays.
My fiance went to the US Interest Section early in the morning for his 8:30 appt. but they didn't interview him until about 12pm. He said that there were 2 fiance visa interviewees ahead of him but they were both denied. One did not have enough evidence and the other one he said appeared to not have a valid case for his visa.
I was waiting all day nervously but he said that he was calm throughout the wait and the whole interview. He was asked about 9 questions then the official congratulated him and asked him did he want to wait for the Visa or come back at 2:30pm to pick it up. They did not have it ready so they told him to come back the next day at 1pm.
I will include the questions in the Consulate review later.
Once again thanks to everyone. Cuban fiances hang in there your time is coming.

This is wonderful news. I am truly happy for you. Wow, you give me so much encouragement that we wil be approved as well. I am looking forward to my fiance's interview day.
Question: since my fiance received his Police cert in late Feb do you think he should go ahead and get another one right before his Apr 3rd interview?
Again, Congratulations!!!

I am so happy for you. This VISA process can be so tidious and stressful but when we can celebrate over these times it is wonderful. Enjoy this time and rejoice in the quick approval.
This is some wonderful news to come back home to. I just came back from Cuba last night and I was hoping to hear other great news from our fellow Cuban fiances. I hope the posts will continue because they encourage us. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations,
I am so happy for you also. I know you are very excited. Your fiance will be with you and your child very soon. Keep us posted on your next steps. The rest of us Cuban fiances will be going through the same thing soon. I will keep you in my prayers. Take care.

Hi Pocamuela,
Thanks! I won't be able to be there for his interview because I am going there the first week in March for only a week. I wish I could accompany him here on the plane when he finally leaves but I don't think that will be possible. I am hoping and praying for a smooth and easy interview. From what I have read from other cuban couples it doesn't seem like the interview is a problem.
Best wishes to you and Yamey with your fiances' interviews. You two are leading the way. I won't be able to hear how your fiance's interview went until I come back from Cuba. Keep us posted on your progress after he get's his Visa. I am very interested in that process.

Hi to all my fellow Cuban fiances,
We received our interview date today!
We are scheduled for the 3rd of April. I was so excited when I got the e-mail.
Well my fiance is getting all of his paperwork together so he should be well prepared by that date. I can join the ranks now with just seating back and relaxing. I can't wait to see him in March when I return there.
Wow! It is hard to believe that he is finally going to be here this year.
I hope everyone is progressing along very well and preparing for their sweethearts to be here soon. Much success to you all.

Thanks for the info Pocamuela. I hope it will be soon also. I'll keep you posted.

Well everyone,
I received an e-mail today from the US consulate stating that there are not any appointments available. I now know how you felt Pocamuela. I hope they give us an appointment soon.
How long did it take them to set your date after you requested it Pocamuela? I know my fiance is going to be disappointed to wait so long.
I guess this is the price you pay for getting your petition approved early on the US side. I think maybe when they saw that it was a Cuba petition they knew how long a wait we will have when it gets here that they just sent it on through. (just speculating).
Anyway, the wait begins...

Hi to all with Cuban fiances.
Just back. Was there for 17 days - my last visit till we can go together. Couldn't wait to check this site and see how you all are progressing. Best to all in the New Year!
Went to Interests Section with some questions. Not hard to get in and speak to Consul. Showed up in the morning, filled out a form and was told to come back at 3. When I came back I waited only about 10 minutes. Saw no other Americans there and felt really bad to see the Cubans waiting and waiting ans waiting to deliver or pick up documents or for their interviews. Spoke to a Consul and 2 lesser officials - all very nice and happy to answer my questions. Also gave me an email address to contact them since it's so difficult to call from here: consularhavana@state.gov
One of my questions had to do with the chequeo medico. My fiance showed me his and it was 2 or 3 loose pages with no envelope. Nowhere in the information packet did it specify that the results must be sealed. So when I told him that he went back to the hospital where he was told that they don't have the budget to buy envelopes! When I asked the Consul about this, he told me that the Interests Section sends them the envelopes which bear the seal of the US gov. He laughed and said, "That's a new one - I wonder what they're doing with the envelopes." He said nothing surprises him anymore. The medical form also has his carne # where they were supposed to put his passport # and a random 2-digit number where it asked for his alien case number. Has anyone else had problems with this???
Also, a Cuban friend who is interesed in learning English told me that he called the Interests Section and asked for the department of Prensa y Cultura and they sent a huge package with cassettes, books and bilingual materials to his house. The package arrived in a big truck within 3-4 days. Apparently they have materials at all levels.
My fiance and I spent many frustrating days seeking elusive documents - always difficult but more so during the holidays.
How are you all doing???
Pocamuela
Hi Pocamuela,
This is my first post on this message board. Happy New year to you and to others.
Thank you for the update and the information about getting materials to learn English from the Interests Section.
My fiance is actually going in the morning to pick up his packet. He was called last week to pick it up.
Until now I had no questions or any info to add concerning this process. Now that we are in Havana with this process I am nervous a little and he is also. He has some issues with his ID that concerns him. Cuba is strict on having the correct address listed on your ID. His address on his ID is not the same address of his house but he is in the process of getting it changed. Since it has not been corrected yet he is a little nervous about presenting it because they asked him to bring it to pick up the packet. I told him to just show his Passport and not worry about showing the ID unless they ask him for it.
I don't think it matters at the Consulate but he might have problems at other gov't locations when he starts getting all his documents. I wired him some money recently to help him with the process so hopefully he can complete his ID change.
You mention about getting other docs, which docs does he need other than the Police Cert, Birth Cert and the Medical? Was there other things listed on the instructions that is needed or were these just personal documents you were locating for yourselves? I guess my fiance will tell me when I call him tomorrow what he needs to obtain.
So did the consulate advise you of what to do about your medical docs? Did they want you to have them in a sealed envelope or will they accept the loose papers?
I can't wait to request his interview online so that I can guage how much longer before he can be here.
I wish you and your fiance the best in your journey as well as all others.
