  1. By all means be honest!! and do gather information from the website such as date of sign up. Some will have a statement if the are exempt or not i am sure. We checked no and had to explain in detail why we checked no. From my understanding if a site is free to sign up for but offers gifts or flowers .....anything they profit from. Whatever website just get them to give you as much proof as possible they are exempt....... been their done that !!!

  2. She doesn't need an SSN or TIN as part of the initial petition. When she is in the country she can apply for an SSN a week or two after she enters the US. SSN may be needed for marriage license in some states.

Thanks I knew i would get a straight answer. Another fiancee told her she needed it for the interview

Not only 'no'. but she's not even eligible for one yet. Silly rumors. :) It's confusing enough as it is!

Do be sure to look at the SSA Guide here at VJ--she will have a narrow window to get a SS# when she first gets to the US.

Thanks for the help and reassurance. It is confusing and complicated at times for sure. So we sure don't need any suprises to pop up.

  3. Hi, There was a question asked in an interview at one of the consulates to provide the petitioners Ex wifes SSN#. Has anyone heard of this before? LOL!! I sure don't know my ex's and dont want to have to ask for it.

    Thanks

Weird that the interviewer would ask a question like that. At least it seems weird to me. The ex-wife's SSAN is not even asked for on the I-129. Oh well, that is why we are here on VJ; we find out something new everyday.

Yea, seemed wierd to me to. With all the privacy acts concerning SSN# of an indvidual not conerned with the case. Proof has already been met for divorce from the start

  5. Never heard of that before. I'm sure anything is possible, but I don't know how or why they would expect you to keep up with that kind of information. Only perhaps if you two shared child custody or something.

That was my thoughs as well that it may be concerning kids. I for sure dont have that to worry with. And i do my best to forget the nightmare haha!!!

  6. Are you going by VJ timelines? I wouldnt depend on them as some of the members do not keep thier timelines current. I am sure your petition will get there soon, relax and get ready for the interveiw. You are at the homestretch now and will be with your SO in no time at all.

They are a bit behind in processing etc. from the "holiday rush". That was what the customer service agent said today, though I think this will pertain mostly to CR1/IR1 visa's and not K-visa's as they are generally "in & out" of NVC since they do not get the amount of processing that an immigrant visa goes through.

    Pulteseller,

According to your info, you applied for a K Visa and would not be able to get info on your case from the automated update system. They do not enter K Visas into the system due to their short stays at NVC. You need to call and opt to speak with a customer service agent. They can assist you in updates.

Good luck and a speedy process for you both!

We are going through the same thing. Our case left the building on the 17th. It was the only case that day to go to GZ. It was received on the 25th but they tell us they have no record

Hope evry one has a smooth and sppedy process

  7. WoooHoooo!!! We returned the appeal form and on December 29th we got emails that the case was approved and recieved NOA2 by snail mail. Now awaintig a notice from the NVC

CONGRATULATIONS! The long wait for NOA2 is over..Hope to receive ours too soon...

    Marie

  8. Hi to all friends,

I have some questions about the necessary documents for a foreigner who wants to marry a local girl in China.

    1. I am sure all documents e.g divorce certificate, must be translated into Chinese and notarized. Can this be done in China?

    2. I was also told the US consulate has to certify the documents before the local Chinese marraige authority will accept them. Is this true?

3 Finally, and this is the strangest to me, I was told the local girl needs to produce a Certificate of Singleness or Singlehood in order to get married. What about the foreigner, does he need to produce one too? In USA, nobody ever has such a document.

Anyone with similar experiences in China, I would very much appreciate your answers. Thanks.

I do know that you if you have a previous divorce then you need to get your divorce decree certified by your attorny generals office and then you can send it to the Chinese consolute in Houston Tx for them to certify it. Hope this helps a little.

  9. Thanks for the info. We were denied before it was sent to the consolute. The petition was denied and appealed to the CSC.
OK hope your case moves quickly from here.

    Good luck!

Good Luck to you and yours. And thanks for your help.

  10. We started got the reciept June 22nd then in Sept. We recieved a RFE. Sent it back Oct ...recieved on the 6th. Then Nov 29th got a denied but with an appeal so we have started the appeal process.

I wish you the best ...Looks like you were just a little ahead of us. We had hoped for a Febuary or March Interview ourselves.

So it was a blue slip, and you sent additional info to the consulate? Then stay the course. If you try a switch after the consulate made a decision then it gets quite complicated, and an immigration lawyer will be needed, it is not a do it your self proposition.

One other thing, If you have not found the site, visit A Candle for Love. http://candleforlove.com that board is Chinese/American culture, and immigrations board. Many stories about overcoming problems with Guangzhou.

Thanks for the info. We were denied before it was sent to the consolute. The petition was denied and appealed to the CSC.

  11. You cannot change a visa type once you start a petition, if you have a K-1 in the works, and then decide to marry before you have it you will have to start from zero and file for the CR-1 or K-3 visa.
We decided to get married before my K-1 petition could be processed. What should I do?

If you get married, your K-1 petition will no longer be valid. Your spouse will need to file a different petition, Form I-130, with the CIS.

    http://guangzhou.usconsulate.gov/kvfaq.html

How long has your K-1 been in process? You do not have a timeline started. :time:

I am doing a K-1 through Guangzhou, Started July 31, and expect to interview this Feb or March.

What type of denial? Blue slip or did they send the case back to USCIS?

It was a I-290B We sent in additional info they asked for.

  14. I'm very sorry to hear that. I can't imagine how crushed you must be. My most sincere condolences.

I'm pretty new at this but, if this were to happen to me and I did not understand what had happened, I would spend a couple hundred bucks consulting with a lawyer -- at least until I had a handle on why I had been denied and what my options were.

    Just my $0.02.

Dont worry...not uncommon for them to do that. Call the USCIS and speak with a supervisor..

they can reverse this....wait for responses from senior members I am sure they will be able to

    give you proper directions

Here is what the letter gave as the reason. When i called I was told that i needed to submit a criminal bakground check after reading them the letter. The background check is no problem I will give them one

ays" On October 6 2OO6 the petitisoner submitted a response to the request for evidence but did mark yes or no to question number one. However sufficent evidence was not submitted regarding did you meet your fiancee or spouse through the services of an international marriage broker as had been specificaly requested in the request for evidence"

Hmmmm!! sent in a long letter explaining were and how we met with. What is the definition of a marriage broker? Is yahoo or the others considered IMB's

  17. Wow I got a big let down today. Got a letter with denied but an appeal letter attached. I called the USCIS for answers because it was unclear as to why. Looked like a RFE paragraph. We provided the information + in our first RFE. The guy at the office asked me to read him the letter and said it was realy unclear. Both my Fiancee and i are upset by this. Is this a common thing to happen???? Have others had to deal with this issue. I am going to appeal and include more information but need help in finding what i need to provide for them. Thanks for any help

  18. It can take a while from sending an RFE in and getting any response, just hang in there and your approval will come!

Thanks it helps to get feed back from others and helpful opinions. I hope they will get a better system in the future and make it faster for others. I have tried to explain to the people that they just do not realize what we all have to go through in waiting while they get to go home to there families and Fiancee/Fiance each day and spend time with them while we have to wait and there is not many options we have. Some have sympathy and others just are like oh well its not my problem.......do you have any other questions. lol

  19. Hi everybody, I am new to this site but have view it several times. I have noticed that some of you are in the same boat i am. My fiancee and i sent our I-129f in and recieved our reciept notice on june 19 and snail mail reciept a few days later. It was in September that we got the RFE. My finacee made a very long trip to her hometown to get her divorce decree birth certificate police report all translated and notorized. We sent additional pictures plus plane tickets passport/visa stamps anything we could think of they might need. We returned it by FedEx and got the email it was recieved on Oct. 6 and was touched then touched again on Oct.28th. I have called numerous times and have been told everything is ok and some say there is no information yet but dont worry everything is ok ....just be patient we are working on them in the order they are recieved and it has not been enough time. Can some one help and shed some light on this for my fiancee and I. It is worrying both of us that so many have been approved and we seem to be watching the world go buy.

One would have hoped that it would have been processed... hopefully your touch a few days ago means it got moved to the front of someone's desk and is getting close to be processed....

Thanks, Yea i would have thought that we would have heard something by know. The waiting is excrutiating sometimes and the information that is available on the USCIS site and by phone is at best minimal to none. I have heard that they are adding new employees and centers to help processing speeds.
