Yes, changing my maiden last name to my married last name, but first name is the same. I did bring our marriage license.

This morning, got another text - application has been approved. still waiting for the oath ceremony letter.

Oath letter posted in my online account yesterday 08/14 9:15am

Thought I can change the name! And it’s really pain to do it with the city court takes 6 to 8 weeks beside $450 fees

    Hi All,

sorry for the delay, was traveling for work this week, and finally got some time to share my experience. Here you go.

    I am a combo filer - I751 pending with N400

Interview was scheduled on last Friday July 12th 9:15am. Since it's a combo interview, my husband and I showed up around 9:10. Yes, we were right on time, even got some Noah Bagel on the way. Security check in was easy, and were told to go to 2nd floor. There were only 3 folks in front of us, so we waited for like 2mins. We live in Glen Park, 5mins from the Bart Station, so we took bart to Montgomery, walked 10mins to USCIS office. Recommend taking bart cuz parking can be tricky...

once we got to 2nd floor, waited for another 5mins to check in, the lady said we are a bit late, but she understands the security check could take some time, so no worries. My husband was chatting with the lady, very cool vibe, relaxing...then were told to go to the 3rd floor.

got up on the 3rd floor, wait began, i brought the civic test booklet with me so I had a chance to review it before the interview. After 30-40mins of waiting, finally they called my name.

She first interviewed us for 751 - I brought our joint tax, mortgage and home owner insurances our joint properties(bought two houses, one in STL, one in San Francisco), our joint car insurance, some recent trip photos(she specifically asked me if i brought any photos), then she asked my husband how we met, it was very relaxing vibe, interactive conversation. Then she asked me if I wanted to change my name, I said, yes, I'd like to use my married last name, she said, Ok, then corrected it in the system.

then she said let's start your N400 interview, first civic, questions she asked

    - what two parts in congress

    - how many house of representatives

    - president of WWI - I said Wilson, but cant remember first name, she said she will give me this one since there is only one Wilson:)

    - CA Governor

    - two holidays

then that was it, writting test - the president lives in the white house, and then she asked me to sign something that has my info, my new name, cell #, etc, then she said, I am approved. Should get a letter in mail to attend August 14th Oath Ceremony in Oakland. We even talked about restaurants in the mission we like, and how we like taking tennis class in the Bay Club, she also asked about my parents, are they still in China, my husband is very chatty, so the whole process was more like a conversation, not interview. She was smiling a lot, and very nice.

today got a text message that oath ceremony has been scheduled - havent got the letter yet and funny thing is my 751 status said new card has been produced...do not know if they are still going to send me a new GC..

the whole process was like 2 hours, including waiting.

Now I am waiting for my oath ceremony letter, and ready to apply for the passport. I recalled someone said that if we have an incoming international trip, we can show the itinerary and ask to expedite. will have to dig out that thread and read more.

Anyway, will share oath ceremony experience once it's done. Good luck to everyone!

congratulation kinda similar to my interview except he said i will not be able to change your name !!! we don't have judge on house!! and you said she agreed to change it for you this is really strange !!

  3. Finally had my tough interview today! over 2 hours of tons of questions about every single section on the application and about our marriage relation since we met till today as i was applying for citizenship based on marriage!

end up with recommended for approval and office wrote the ceremony date at the same paper which is 8/14/2019

after an hour once i reached home received statues update application approved!

    Our combo(I-751/N-400)interview was at 10:30

The interviewer called my name shortly after getting to the waiting area. First She asked me and my wife some questions about my address and my job and she collected all the documents . I gave my wife’s passport and copy of her citizenship certificate and she didn’t even talk about the original. Then she added my daughter on  the file coz she was born after I filed my

I-751.Then she asked me if I want my family to stay in i said yes. she started asking me questions for citizenship, she asked a total of 5 questions only.  Questions number 15, 33, 36, 50, 79. After that she said congratulations to me . That’s it.

    It took me 30 minutes.

Good luck to all of you.

wow that's pretty quick seems she was in rush lol !! Congratulations!!

So, I am really happy for all of you but I also has my interview today but when they call my name I went in and the officer told me that he wasn't able to make the interview because my I-751 was pending and there was no one available to do a Combo-interview and he wasn't allowed to do it. So Now I have to wait another appointment.

    So sad!!!

That's really strange but i would suggest keep pushing and follow up with them and submit a request if needed if you didn't hear back from them within a week

Done with my interview, I was recommend for approval.

Took Bart to Embarcadro station and walked to 444 Washington St.

My appointment is 9:50am, got there at 9:20am, but they didn't call me until 10:30am, everything done by 11:00am.

    The civics test questions are,

    - Name of your state representative

    - Name of the speaker of the house

    - Who lives in America before European came.

    - Name one of the state border Canada

    - Name one of the state border Mexico

    - Who does a US senator represent

The whole process went really well, we went through every questions on the application, updated employment history and trips outside the US.  And finally she recommended me for approval.

    Very well.. Congratulation !!

Do you have I-751 pending as well ?

Oy - yes. I for some reason thought it was on June 16. either way, sadpanda for me for having to wait 1.5 months for an Oath that most cities do same day, or weekly. I can't believe SF is this disorganized.

What to do man other than patience! my interview July 15 in the middle of the month 🤦‍♂️ Anyone knows when is August ceremony ? hopefully not by the end of August 🙌

  8. 2 minutes ago, Solid_Possibility said:

Goes against the experience of at least one people I know, plus myself. As I mentioned, I went for my interview last Friday (5/31) and got scheduled for July 17. There were clearly more than two weeks between my interview and the June oath ceremony.

June ceremony on 12th I believe that's less than 2 weeks but still more than 10 days lol

  9. Finally interview scheduled on Monday, July 15, 2019 , I believe will be a combo interview since I have I-751 still pending.

Heres the summary of my citizenship interview held at 630 Sansome st, SF.

Took the Bart and got off at Embarcadero station. 10 min walk to the office.

Went up to the second floor and registered myself in. Got a packet with information about applying for a passport! Yes, before the interview was conducted. Haha! Did not open the packet for fear of counting my chickens.......

The interview started 15 min late. Not sure why.

The english test took 1 minute. I had to read one sentence and write one sentence that the interviewer read out.

The civics test took 2-3 minutes. I got asked the following 6 civics questions.

Who is in charge of the executive branch?

What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

What ocean is on the east coast of America?

Why does the flag have 50 stars?

What territory did the US buy from France in 1803?

Name 3 o the 13 original states? I started off by giving 3, then the interviewer went silent, so I began recited another few and the interviewer smiled and said I had passed the civics test.

The remaining 20 minutes or so were based on the application itself. I was specifically probed on the following

Proof of still being married as my application was based on marriage to a US citizen. I took that for granted and did not bring any current proof as I thought the info submitted at time of application was sufficient(bought a house with spouse and had 2 joint bank accounts). Anyway I managed to download the last bank statement from our joint account and he seemed satisfied with that.

Time away from US - I make frequent short visits and had them all written out. He had all trips on record and just verified the dates and purpose but did not inspect my passport.

I made one mistake on my form (question 22). I said 'yes' instead of 'no' and had to explain that and spent a few minutes discussing the error because I misunderstood the question.

At the end he said I had been approved for citizenship and that the oath ceremony will be in 2-3 months.

I got 2 emails from USCIS with the following messages.

We approved your application - Your final step to becoming a citizen is to attend your naturalization ceremony

We will mail you a letter when we schedule your naturalization ceremony. Estimated wait time 4 months! Estimated case completion 3 months (August 2019).

Not sure why the oath ceremony has been delayed for so long.

Congratulation !!! and it's kinda weird that ceremony took very long hope they send you letter with sooner dates!!

Did you had I-751 pending ? if yes did you mention it on your interview or the officer talked about it? my wife she will be traveling next couple month and i'm not sure if she will be required to come with incase if they ask for I-751 interview before the N400

    Hi guys

I had my N-400 interview today.

i received my appointment letter around one months ago and it just say it’s the N-400 interview.

I went there with my wife and when the officer called me I asked him my wife is here too and he Said no you should come in lonely!

The interview was pretty good; at first he asked me to raised my right hand for oath and after that couple formal question (name, family, address, ...).. then he started civic questions(five question) and one dictate(White House is in Washington D.C); pretty easy..

    but

he did not say anything about I-751.. and I asked him are you gone do the I-751 interview too?! And he said: do you have I-751 pending?!

    I said: Yes!!

he left and come back after half and hour and he called my wife in and start interview for I-751; and also collect some new document for it and at the end he said your N-400 in reality approved but I could claim that approved because your I-751 was not approved yet and my supervisor supposed to approved that which she is not here now!

Actually I cloud see that he wants to approve it on that time but he couldn’t find his supervised!

May the end he gave me a paper which says : decision. Can’t make now and told me they gone send me the decision after around 2 weeks ..

    this is all story..

Well how if you didn't tell me him about the I-751 ? It's his job to know if it's approve or not you shouldn't remind him i believe lol

I filed 07/30/2018, and have to move to Washington DC in July 2019, so unfortunately have to file for a change of address. Since Washington DC office is even busier, I expect my timeline is going to be pushed even further. Sigh. Wish me luck!

When I filled for my 2 yrs green card I was in chicago and then moved to california but since my green card interview was very close didn't change my address and just traveled back to give the interview in chicago and changed the address during the interview.

Are you still gonna be in SF? Or the same field office? I don’t see why they would delay you if it’s the same field office. but again I’ve neger changed address with case pending so don’t quote me on this. Maybe you can call uscis customer service to find out?

I'll be in the same complex actually but changed apartments so the mail address changed.
