  1. Hello Friends,

After an anxious wait of almost 1 year of filing the AOS paperwork at the Chicago office, our AOS case status got updated online to "My interview was scheduled". Its been a few days since the online status change but I have still not received any official paper notification in my mailbox with the interview date and details. I wanted to ask if someone here knows approximately how many days it takes for them to send us the official schedule notification in the mail after the online status change. Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone on their journey towards AOS. Cheers!

  2. Thank you so much JSWH for your reply. It surely helps. Just a quick question though, do I have to only fill the new I-765 and I-131 forms or also attach the bunch of documentation which I had sent previously along with it (proof of marriage, driving license etc etc). Can you briefly list down what all documents you sent to them in your package please?

Since I am within 180 days of my current EAD+AP card expiring (April 2019), can I send the paperwork for EAD+AP extension now to USCIS? How was your experience with the renewal process, how quickly did you hear back from them? Hoping to hear from you. God Bless!!

  3. Hello Friends,

OK so I applied for my AOS, EAD + AP last October 2017 at the Chicago office and received my EAD+AP card in May 2018. Still no word regarding the AOS case though, only that they have sent me the receipt. So my question is that since my EAD+AP card is valid for a year (April 2019), when would be the right time to apply for the renewal for the EAD+AP combo card? I have read and heard various versions so anyone who has been through the process and can help me out would be highly appreciated. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Is there an automatic 180-day extension to the existing EAD+AP card once it expires since I applied for the AOS?

    2. Is there an extension only to the EAD or also the AP? Can I travel out of the country during the extension days?

    3. Do I have to apply for a renewal both the EAD and AP or only EAD? Means send one set of documents or one for each which makes it 2 sets?

    4. Is there any fees associated with the renewal process at all?

    5. Do I have to follow the 120 days to expiration date or 180 days to expiration date rule for applying for the renewal of the EAD+AP?

Sorry for the many questions but any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you and goodluck to everyone on this long and stressful journey towards to GC!

  4. Hi Friends,

After a long wait of nearly 150 days, my EAD+AP combo card arrived in the mail today. The date of filing all 3 (I-485, I-765 & I-131) were November 2017. I got the EAD card with a validity for 1 year (April 2018-April 2019). The Chicago office dates back to cases in 2015 and hence I am not sure with the ongoing delays happening, whether my Green Card interview would come up before the current EAD card expires or no. I would have to apply for an extension and hence had a few queries. Would appreciate if someone could help address them.

    1. I understand the filing for an extension EAD is free if you have your I-485 ongoing, which link provides more information about it? (documents to be attached along etc etc)

    2. SInce my EAD is valid till April 2018, when should I send across the application for EAD renewal? Does it have to be 180 days before expiration date? that would make it sometime around October 2018.

    3. Would there be an automatic extension on the current EAD card or a new one is sent to us?

All this is only if there has been no update with my Green Card application. If that comes in time nothing like it. Thank you in advance and goodluck guys!

  6. Hi Friends,

So after filing my AOS (I-485) along with I-765 and I-131 in November 2017, I finally got the update that my EAD card is ready and being mailed to me (painful wait of around 150 days). Had a couple of offers in hand and lost a few too due to the infinite time taken for the approval of EAD.I have a few questions and hope someone could help address them.

    1. So the EAD card comes along with the AP too? whoever got it is it valid for 1 year or 2 years?

    2. The Chicago office timeline for Green Card dates back to Aug 2015, if it really is so back in time would it really takes 2 more years for me to even get a chance to interview for the Green Card?

    3. If Yes, do we have to update the EAD once it expires if the Green card application is still pending with USCIS?

Any more information shared in the subject matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

  8. Hello Friends,

I had applied from my K1 visa for an AOS (i-485), employement authorization (i-765) based on AOS and travel parole (i-131) on November 18th and received their receipt on Nov 22nd along with the three receipt number. I was called in and went in for my biometric appointment on December 18th. Now,I just want to understand the timelines from people who have successfully passed through these steps. Could you tell me approximately what timeline I should be looking for in expecting my EAD with travel permit and then the Temporary GC? I have some good employement opportunities lined up but they wont wait for me forever hence some clarity from someone who has been through the grind would be very helpful. The USCIS website barely updates itself and also the folks at USCIS are least helpful.

Looking forward to some positive information from the experienced folks here.Have a good one guys!

G-325 is not needed with the new form but doesn't hurt to include it.

You can add those under Bona fide marriage and shared residence proof.

Also just a heads up, I included a separate cover page each for I-765 and I-131. Letting you know since this is my list I posted a little ago :D .

The I-131 supplement part 7 looks like below and I am attaching the document I found on this website somewhere as well. I did not have concrete plans at the time so I left part 3 blank and wrote 'I am planning to visit family and friends' under description of travel for the part 7 supplement.

    Form I-131 Supplement, Part 7

APPLICATION FOR TRAVEL DOCUMENT I-131 for:

    [First Name and Last Name],

    A# [your Alien Registration Number]

[If you are filing this with your Adjustment of Status Notification state “CO-FILING I-131 with I-485, Adjustment of Status Application”]

    - or -

[Attach a Copy of your Adjustment of Status Receipt Notification from USCIS]

Date Entered the US: [Enter Date]

    Date Married: [Enter Date]

Date Filed for Adjustment of Status: [Enter Date]

I have not at any time accrued 180 continuous days of unlawful presence within the United States. [IF YOU HAVE ACCRUED OVER 180 CONTINUOUS DAYS OF UNLAWFUL STATUS AND YOU LEAVE THE UNITED STATES YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO A 3 OR 10 YEAR BAN FROM THE UNITED STATES UPON ATTEMPTING TO RE-ENTER THE COUNTRY]

    Description of Travel:

  10. Hello Friends,

I am at the stage of proof checking all forms for the last time and finally sealing the envelope and sending it to the Chicago lockbox for my AOS process initiation. I want to run by the experts on the forum the set of documents I have added to my envelope and any feedback would be more than welcome. The main forms that I have filled include I-485, I-765, I-131, I-864, I-1145 and G-325.  Are these supporting documents enough or do I need to add some more? Like wedding pictures, home and auto insurance where our names appear together, Rented apartment Lease, AT&T Wireless Account where I am on my Spouse (USA Citizen)family plan.

    1. Yes, you still need to do biometrics even though you had biometrics already done. You can not get past the biometric part at all.

    2. The question on wither or not you will be selected for an interview is very hit or miss honestly. You may get get hit with an interview and you may not it all depends on USCIS. Actually hope you have an interview because the whole AOS process will more than likely move alittle faster than no interview at all. So expect to have an interview just in case and if you don't have one then that is great.

    3. You need to fill it out not your wife.

Thank you sir for the swift reply. God Bless

  12. Hello,

I came to USA on a K1 visa and got married to my wife who is a USA citizen. We are in the process of submitting the paperwork for K1-Green Card AOS. My questions are as follows:

    1. The application fees for K1-GC AOS I believe is $1,225. It includes for biometrics and the process. Do I still need to get biometric done for green card even though I had one done just before coming to USA for K1 Visa interview? Or is there is a waiver for biometric and I go straight for Interview with my spouse? would that affect the fees to be paid?

    2. I read in some cases they do not call for an interview and in some they do. Would someone be able to throw some light as to what the scenario typically is? what I am trying to say is that since I went through a detailed and exhaustive interview already for the K1 visa back home in India, would we (me and spouse) still be called for another interview here in USA for granting the green card?

    3. Do me and my spouse both need to fill in the g325 form or is it just me?

Thanks a lot for helping. God Bless!!!

  13. Hi Guys,

I have come to the USA on a fiancee K visa and got married to my wife who is a US citizen.I/We do not have any child/children.We are in the process of submitting the paperwork for AOS from K1.While filling in the I-485 form there are a couple of queries I had and would greatly appreciate some help here.

    1. On page 3 bottom right hand there is a question "Are you applying for adjustment based on the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 245 (i)? My understanding is that I have to check the box which says YES.Can someone please clarify this?

    2. Also for Supplement A form Part 2. Eligibility, which of the box should I check from 1a-1e?

Thank you and looking forward to some guidance. God Bless!!!
