  1. I know this is a somewhat old post, but here are my two cents.

When I received the interview notice I wasn't able to get an appointment for the medical examination before the interview date. Also, I live in a small town and my lab work had to be sent out to an external lab, so it took more than 2-3 days. In my case, a RFE was issued at the interview, giving me around 3 months to send the i-693 in.

  2. It's been a while since I was last here! Yesterday I got the "Case Was Approved" and "We ordered your new card" updates (for the i485)!

A little bit of background! When we first applied in Nov 2017 we were living in Florida (assigned to the New Orleans office), and I got my EAD card within 60 days (January 2018). After that, silence for like 7 months. We moved to NM in late July so we updated the address and basically within days our interview was scheduled! (Kudos to the Albuquerque office, they've been super efficient and helpful).

At the beginning of August we got the interview notice, scheduled for Sept. 10th. I hadn't had my medical done yet since we were afraid it was going to expire and unfortunately it was impossible for me to get an appointment on base on such short notice :( We went to the interview knowing that they'd ask for the i693. The lady at the interview was super nice and sweet, she asked for the basics (passports, marriage certificate) and for the i693. She was going to approve our case on the spot until we told her I wasn't able to get my medical on time. She then gave us a RFE letter and told us she'd approve our case as soon as we mailed that in. We had a trip overseas planned for October, so she said we should wait to mail the i693 (if the case was approved my advance parole wouldn't work anymore). We came back from our trip, I mailed the i693 last Friday (18th), it was delivered on Monday (22nd) and Wednesday morning (24th) the case was approved and my card was ordered!

I’m a January filer but our plan is to file jointly, we called to the IRS in January to ask about this and the guy we talked to told us that we should file for a tax extension (before April 15th, we’ll be doing it this month) and then we can file our taxes later on when I get my SSN.

There’s another way, requesting a TIN number but he said that since I already requested a SSN this was the way to go plus  I wouldn’t be assigned a TIN number since there’s a request pending for me.

I’m just lurking a little bit, seeing how good are you guys doing, but I definitely can’t keep my hopes up on getting my EAD soon, huh? Lol.

    I got my EAD/AP in like 60 days, so there's hope :)

it will be a different office. As the spouse of a service member, The process normally moves very very fast. Chances are you will have you case decided before you move. Have you husband contact the his immigration liaison officer.

Thank you so much for your help!

Will the immigration liaison officer be able to speed up the process or something?

  5. We filled a marriage based AOS (from a F1 Visa) back in November. It went pretty fast at the beginning (got my EAD/AP card in like 60 days) but my case seem to be stale now :(

Anyway, my question here. We live in North West Florida and were assigned to the New Orleans LA Field Office. My husband has orders to New Mexico, and we'll be moving around the first week of July. Once we move, would our assigned office be the same? Or would our case be transferred? I'd hate to have to come down to New Orleans for our interview..

And since I'm here (let me know if I should open a different thread) I have another questions about the interview. With my luck, I'm afraid my husband is going to be deployed for our interview. Could we move the interview date or would it be okay if I go by myself?

    TL;DR
If we move, would our case get transferred to a different office?

Could we change the interview date if husband is deployed?

    Thanks!!!

    hey all,

I'm sending out my AOS package soon. Did any of you decide to not send the I-693 (medical examination), and wait to take it to interview? If so, has anyone actually got a RFE for not sending in the medical with the package? I don't want it to expire, so would rather wait to take it to interview. However, I don't want to risk an RFE and risk delaying my EAD/AP!

I didn't send the I-693 and got a RFE. I probably won't do it until I get my interview date, and I received my combo card  63 days from filling date.

    Hope it helps!

I technically am a K1 AOS filer, I didn't realize I posted in wrong thread.  But I update the K1 AOS Progress thread to say I got my text late last night too!

Don't worry about the Case Tracker saying it does not exist.  I've seen multiple people say it could take up to 2 weeks before the Case Tracker works.  Don't worry.  Text is the most important part.  It tells you that A.) You filed correct papers and fee so package won't be coming back to you; and B.) You'll be receiving paper NOA1 notice soon.  Which is your legal proof of (pending) status.

Thanks for your help! I tend to be a little bit impatient..I wanted to have the case number in MyUSCIS so I wouldn't have to worry about the number in the future.

Good luck with your case! :)
