Oh dam O_O this is so troubling...I hope you get good news really soon. and thank you.we really appreciate it ... i can't even begin to understand how it is there can be a shortage of local passports for the country...

Also how long after you sent in your IV and Affidavits of support package were y'all issued an interview date? my wife is about to send in our package by thursday once we have everything together.

We submitted everything to the NVC on August 31st and got our interview date on October 13th :)

I'll reply to your other threads about preparing the forms etc. I luckily had a lawyer's guidance so I'll let you know how we did ours.

Hi everyone. our process is close to being over. we are about to send in the IV and affidavits of support to the NVC.

I am the beneficiary in the process. i also live in Trinidad.  my local Passport expires in about 8 and a half months.

i want to know what happens if i were to renew my passport during our process before the interview.

I'm the petitioner sponsoring my Trinidadian husband and we're in a similar situation right now.

We got our interview date for Nov 8th and he applied for his new passport over a month ago with zero progress. Currently we are being told from the POS and Chaguanas offices that there's is a "shortage" of passports and unless there's a death, illness or work emergency you will not be able to have the renewal expedited. I was told the normal waiting time is 2-5 months.

So now we're basically stuck. His medical is on Oct 24th and his passport expires on April 24th 2018. By the time we get to our interview however, his passport's validity would be less than 6 months. Since tomorrow is a holiday in Trinidad, I cannot get in touch with the US embassy there until Thursday. I'm going to try calling the offices here in the states to find out what his options are.

I'll keep you posted. I don't want you to end up in the same situation as us. It sucks to have gotten this far to have something as routine as a passport renewal not be efficient in Trinidad.
