You aren’t the petitioner, your wife is. If she withdraws the application, that’s it. She may be your sponsor, but the whole application is dependent on the petitioner not the sponsor 

I believe voluntary withdrawal does not constitute a formal denial

I’m sorry but that’s exactly what they say. If they require evidence or extra information, your whole process goes back to 0

Have you you been keeping up with your case online?

This is right. You will most likely receive your card latest by the end of this month. Note that it is entirely possible that the online thing will say “Case Received” or something like that while your card would be in your mail. So don’t stress too much about it
