  1. Got my I-751 approved last January 22, 2007 , went to the INS Local office (Orlando,FL) on Feb 27,2007 and got fingerprinted and stamped for I-551 (temporary green card) on my passport, validity for one year.

It's been almost 3 months and haven't received the actual green card. How long does it take them to produce it , i thought it's only within 30 days. I am to file my N-400(Naturalization) next month (June 20,07) and I am worried what if by that time the card is still not here , and I believe this is one of the requirements (copy of green card) for submission.

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.

This is interesting.. you got approved for I-751 (January 22, 2007) before you got your fingerprint done (Feb 27,2007)? :o Didn't mean to question you, BUT are you sure that's an appoval notice? Did you get an email with "Current Status: Card production ordered. "? I might be wrong, but it seems like you received NOA1 instead of approval, maybe? When did you send your I-751?

If that's indeed the approval, what's the purpose of getting the Biometrics after the approval?

I submitted my I-751 in June 2006, before they implemented the new procedure of getting the biometrics first before approval. The process I went through was the old method, submit I-751 ,wait for the approval letter, go to the local INS office with the approval, get fingerprinted and stamped . They changed that in July 2006.

Didn't know that. Hopefully you'll get your card soon.

    Here's the skinny:

I called the USCIS 800 # today and inquired about my green card. The INS officer told me that our INS local office made a mistake, instead of sending my papers to TSC for issuance of the green card, he sent it to their warehouse for storage (National Record Center ) :( . He suggested to make an info pass appt so our INS local office can make another request. However, when I tried to make an info pass appt, got this message "there is no available dates as of this time, try again later" :(. I wonder why the officer I talked to on the phone cannot just send a request to issue a card for me. He also suggested to file an I-90 but it will take a little longer, i checked the processing time for I-90 ,it is like about 6 mos. :( Oh well, it's really frustrating knowing the cause of all this is on their end. Thank goodness I followed up, or else I will just be waiting for nothing.

  2. I plan to apply for my naturalization (90 days before the 3rd anniversay of my permanent residency) which will be next month. However, up until now I haven't received my actual 10 yr green card yet( I got approved and stamped a temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residency in Feb 2007). I called the USCIS 800 to inquire about my 10 yr card today and found out that our local INS office made a mistake , instead of submitting my application for green card for issuance, the officer sent the papers to the warehouse( National record center), thus , no green card up to now, this is accdg to the INS officer I spoke to. He suggested to me to make an info pass so our local INS can send another request.

My question is, if ever i do not get the actual green card by the time I file my N400 in the 2nd week of June, will the temporay passport (I-551 ) stamp work as evidence of my legal permanent residency status( as I believe one of the requirements is a copy of the green card, I only have a copy of my expired conditional green card, original card was surrendered to the office when I got my passport stamped).

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.

  4. I have seen cases of up to 1 year for I-751, they are in no hury to process them.

You have the I-551 stamp, and NOA1 letter from the I-751 so you are covered for the year.

What are you basing the timing of naturalization on? Naturalization can be filed withing 90 days of the 3 year anniversary of getting your first green card, not 3rd wedding anniversary. So you should be filing the naturalization paperwork around 1 year after filing the I-751 paperwork.

I am basing my filing for naturalization on 90 days before the 3rd year anniversary of getting my first green card. I got my conditional green card on Sept 20,2004, thus, i plan to submit my N400 next month (June 20,2007). One of the requirements for N400 is copy of the green ( my old green card was surrendered when i got my passport stamped) but i have a photocopy of that. Do you think i can just submit a copy of the passport stamp(I-551) and photocopy of my expired conditional green card?

Yes, i have my stamp on my passport but can't locate my NOA1 letter for my I-751 approval.
