  1. Hello all. Same situation here. We've been waiting since March 2017 for our interview, and unfortunately only know that our file is ready for the interview stage since August 2017, but no interview letter, email, nor phone call. Unable to get an answer from the helpful but probably overwhelmed Bogota staff.

We're hoping (and forced optimism) that this move will help speed things up.

Good new : A quick search showed that flights from Cuba usually stop in Trinidad & Tobago, which does not require a visa.

I hope to see information of those who receive notice of interviews in Guyana!

    We'll update as well.

  2. We are also waiting to be interviewed in Bogota. No details still, and it is advised not to pay fees to Habana, as fees are not transferable to other embassies.

I spoke to NVC twice this week, and was told our K-1 visa is non-immigrant and no decision has been made yet. It is not, it is an immigrant class visa. The U.S. embassy in Habana replied to my email advising that all K-1 immigrant visas are automatically routed to Bogota, but no decision has been made as to how the process will unfold.

    Lots of waiting.....

  3. Great information, everyone, thanks to all for sharing.

My fiancé is Cuban, we received our NVC and Invoice #'s just an hour before the embassy was reported closed.

I thought I had searched every inch of the web, but had not heard about the idea of finishing the process through a third-country. I love the idea of T&T.

We're continuing with the steps for the D-160, and we think we're prepared with all required information (save for the soon to be completed medical exam).

So....I'm understanding that once we're to the point we would have our interview, we proceed with all documentation to the 3rd country? And that I would attempt to schedule that appointment by calling the embassy in T&T?

You all are the best, and best of luck to all---

  4. Also, marriages in Cuba can be expensive (depending on your financial situation).

You must make sure to know exactly what required documents are needed and bring or have those documents translated.

*** Remember, marrying in Cuba has no apparent benefit upon your partner coming to the United States, if that is your plan. You will then go through the process regardless, meaning now you will be spending $ not only on  the process in Cuba to marry, but then again on the visa process to bring your husband/wife to your home, instead of your fiancé.

Rumor has it the visa process for a married couple vs a fiancé takes much longer. I would search for the website that lists processing dates for different visas and make your decision with that in mind.

As the embassy returns to a "US interests section" instead of a fully functioning embassy, they will only serve US citizens in particular situations, and may return to using the Swiss embassy as a go-between.

    Best of luck!

  5. My fiancé is in Cuba, and we received our NVC case number an hour before visas were suspended indefinitely. Having been told repeatedly to wait for the letter containing the NVC case number and required Invoice number, I found the NVC phone # and received it in just a few minutes.

I would suggest you continue with the process (it takes quite a while) with the hopes to be at the front of the line when/if visas begin processing again.

Someone in a linked post asked if it was even safe to travel to Cuba now. Don't buy into the hype, and compare the administrations reaction to countries in which tourists/visitors/citizens have suffered violence by extremists. This is NOT the case in Cuba, it is very safe for visitors. What we see occurring is at the federal level and has nothing to do with the relationship of the US and Cuban populations, with the exception that suspending visas and separating families and loved ones.

We are continuing to complete all required documents and have all our tasks completed in the hopes that someone sane reverses this decision.
