I am so happy to hear you are both together in the States!  YAY!!!  What port of entry did you go into?

My husband and I are very similar to your case, meaning he is still in school , etc.

I sent you a PM here on VJ?  Did you get it?  Let me know, otherwise I will shoot you over another one!  We would love your advice and hear more about the process from you.

We literally just got our NOA2 from USCIS TODAY in the mail, after 300 days waiting there... :)

Oh! I didn't see that - let me check and reply to you there. :)

    Hey!

Just wanted to touch base with you.  How did the process go for you?  Were you able to travel back to the States with no hiccups?  Wishing you the best, and again congratulations!

    Best,

    Allison

We made it trough without any issues! It was nerve wracking - I didn’t feel comfortable until after Customs and Border Patrol here in the States!

They checked his military travel clearance at the ticket booth and security line (they kept it at that point). The ticket booth didn’t even read, just checked to make sure we had it but at security she was very focused on it for legitimacy.

Then, at our layover in Italy, they checked his passport and visa and asked a few questions before we were allowed on the plane.

CBP in the states was really nice but took about an hour to get through.

Are you going to be doing the same? Let me know how I can help!

  3. Okay - update!  We received the document with the stamp on it allowing him to travel. However, now my concern is that his visa says immigration, not tourist or student, etc. Has anyone run into issues with this before? On all the other forums that I have seen, everyone says that the airport officials don’t actually check and just want to see that there is the travel permission. But they are all outdated forums so I want to hear from my VJ friends who have Egyptian spouses who are 1. Still students and 2. Have no yet completed their military service.

    Thanks!

  4. Hey everyone,

My husband finally received his passport with his US visa inside - hooray!!! It took about a year and two months from start to finish...not bad considering our current government.

    Anyway, my question is this:

My husband is not yet 30 and has not yet completed his military service - he's continued his studies and hasn't been required to do his service yet. Now that we are ready to move to the States, we are wondering if we need any sort of stamp or paperwork from the Egyptian military stating that he is allowed to travel? Or will an enrollment certificate from his university be sufficient?

Also, because he's not yet 30, would we be able to travel back to Egypt without fear of him being conscripted before a) he turns 30 or b) he becomes a US citizen?

Any answers and advice help. Thank you and please feel free to message me with any questions regarding the entire CR1 application process - it's not as daunting as it seems, promise!

  5. Hey all -

My husband and I went to the embassy in Cairo yesterday for our scheduled interview at 7:30 AM. However, when we got to the front of the line, they told us our name wasn’t on the list. Along with 10 to 15 other people, we sat on the side until they came back out to tell us that the National Visa Center had not yet sent our paperwork to the embassy! When we asked what the next steps were, they took down our phone numbers and said they would call as soon as they receive the paperwork to reschedule the interview.

I called the national Visa Center and they said they sent my paperwork on July 6, about a month ago. I’ve been called the embassy as well and they said, again, that the paperwork was not there. I emailed the embassy, but have not yet heard back from them. Not sure what else to do.

I traveled here for the interview from the US and I am missing work for this. I know I don’t have to be present at interview, but I wanted to come and support my husband and just be here throughout the whole process. It’s a total bummer.

Anyone else have this experience in Egypt? What ended up happening? Can anyone offer advice?

That depends you going to interview is a great support still when he will get the visa depends on how interviews go on if they didn't request anything and he got approved you can expect two weeks , if they needed from him something more and still approved like my friend that might exceed month or more .

my friend pass the interview but the consular asked him for police clearance from previous resident country in Austria and he had to get that when he sent it from month now and he is in that administrative process .

I am planning to put my pickup for Aramex in nearest branch to Embassy i can go and pick it up from the branch instead that will save day or two.

Got it. When you registered the Aramex office, how did you find the address? Their website is not helpful at all. For instance, how to find the state and postal code? I want to do the same thing - pick it up at an office near the embassy. Can you tell me the address you chose?

  7. Hey everyone -

I have a quick question. My husband has his interview at the embassy in Cairo next month and I'm trying to plan my travels there. I would love to be there for the interview, but I can't take too much time off work here in the U.S.

How long did it take you between your interview and actually receiving your passport back via Aramex?

    Thanks!
