Thanks to everyone for their replies! I'm so excited.
It's true what everyone says, it seems like forever when you're going through it, but when you reach the end, you think, "It wasn't so bad. I'd do it again in a heartbeat."

Thank you for all the posts, I'm was just hoping we didn't have to wait 8 hours in an airport.

Hi all,
Sorry, once again it seems the search function does not like me, as it refuses to turn up anything.
I have a question about traveling to the US with the K1 visa. My fiance and I are planning to go through NY (so that he can get a temp work permit) and the flights we are looking at allow 4 hours between when we land in NY and when our flight leaves for Chicago.
Does this seem like enough time? The next, and last, flight out that day is 8 hours after arrival.
If anyone who has gone through NY with their K1, or anyone who has any information really, could respond, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hi! Thanks for your message. Don't worry about the police certificate. You will not need it until the interview. It tells you in Packet 3 not to send any documents back with the forms, but to keep them and bring them to the interview.
Fingers crossed that it comes in time for you guys! I think ours took about the whole 40 days, but I'm not positive because we were in the US when it arrived.
Yeah, a SUPER BIG congratulations!!! yay for London!!I just wanted to ask you a couple questions seeing as you are about a month ahead in the process and we're both going to London!!!
When do you have to turn in the police certificates?? Dave and I are expecting our Packet 3 from London any day now (I'm pretty sure they just received our petition). Trouble is, we -STUPIDLY- just filed for our police certificates and they take about a month to get to us! I'm just worried you are supposed to turn them in with Packet 3! In which case, we'll have to hold on to Packet 3 before we send it back longer than I'd like! Anyway, thanks for your help! And hopefully I'll get a reply saying you only have to bring them to the interview....we'll see!
Thanks!

Thanks ELW! I guess the pressure of Packet 3, and the preparing for the medical and interview kept me busy. In addition to a forum I post on for Physician Assistants. I'm going to make sure to spend more time on VJ, in an attempt to help those just starting or still in the process, because there were people there to help me when I did it.
Not to mention, when AOS rolls around I'll be a nightmare.
Thanks for your wishes, best of luck gathering all those documents, hope to see it done soon!
Yea Kinsey! Congrats on the interview date! Missed your posts all this time. Sweet indeed and fast isn't it, after the NOA2.I was caught offguard when the Consulate scheduled our interview immediately after they received our case from the NVC.
We need to turn in all papers 15 working days before the interview, so my guy is scrambling to get his police certificates & medical done.
Best wishes for a successful interview!!

Thanks for all the wishes you guys!
March 30th can't come soon enough.

Hello all,
It's been ages since I've actually participated on the forum, and I'm sorry. However, I did want to make an announcement that Karl has his visa interview on March 30th down in London.
:) I'm here in the UK, so I'll be going with him, and I'll make sure to post it under Embassy Reviews when we get there.
I'll be trying to spend more time on the site in the weeks to come!
Best of luck to everyone still waiting (for NOA1s, NOA2s, NVC, Consulate, etc., etc.)

Congratulations!! I'm so glad to hear it, as my fiance's interview is March 30th, and we have a complicated sponsor situation too, but I have plenty of evidence!
Once again, congrats!!

Hello all!
We just recently received our interview date, and are trying to guage what is best to do. His work has known for months that he is leaving (April-ish time we said) but he'd still like to give his formal 1-month notice. In addition, we'd like to book flights as there is a deal going and the longer we wait, the higher ticket prices get.
I was just wondering who here actually waited to do these things until the visa was in their hand, and who didn't. I'm fairly confident we shouldn't have any hang-ups, and am anxious to get back home (I'm the USC) and start working again!!
Thanks in advance guys!!

My fingers are crossed for your NOA2 Tracy! Any day now....

Hmmm, does this mean that a foreign fiancee who is pregnant at the time of her medical, must wait for her visa until she is no longer pregnant and able to have her x-ray? What if she is only 1 month in, does that really delay people 8 months?
Just curious.

We are in the same boat. We are having a courthouse wedding in May-ish (hopefully!) and then we will save for an "actual" wedding later on. It isn't that the courthouse isn't going to mean anything to us, but I've always wanted the dress, the cake, the family, etc., but as students we cannot afford it, nor can it be planned in such short notice.
We aren't even sure we are going to ask the parents to the courthouse as witnesses. We may make them all wait until our actual wedding, and have it just him and I that first time.
I think having the "actual" wedding later on is a great idea. After all we've been through, we deserve it! Not to mention, we deserve the gifts that go along with an actual wedding!!!

Yes, it's the I-134. I do know that they can do it for me, I was posting so that if someone has a similar question later, the search function should pull this up for them.

Hello all,
I posted a few weeks ago about where I, the US Citizen, could get my documents notarized in the UK. Turns out the Embassy does them for American citizens without an appointment even!
In addition, I e-mailed the consulate to find out if I had to go to the Embassy ahead of time to get them notarized, and they said I could have them done the same day as my fiance's interview. Saves another trip to London!!
Hope this info helps someone else.

I actually opened this thread with the intention of writing what you wrote, LisaD. So I thank you.
You miss my point. You're so 'sick' of hearing about ANS, yet you come here and start a thread to talk about how sick you are of hearing about her.
There's logic there somewhere.
Oh, and there's a seach button at the top, too. It is your friend

I could not agree more with the following post. I also know the poster who made the thread about mail orders, and I sympathized with her reasoning behind it.
It really is a disgrace to those of us who's SO's are/were not a purchase, but instead a part of our life that we cannot live without.
I salute those here who are apparently more kind-hearted than I am about to be - your kind of grace is in short supply.I cannot, however, forgive this guy for his words - even if they were hasty and served only to cover his true hurt (which if they were, I'd have expected follow up posts to be of the "well, I really meant" variety, not an emphatic relisting of his awesome financial expenditures and pre-selected dates).
The OP gives a bad name to all of us going through international marriage because his words and callous attitude toward marriage supports those who taunt us with "oooh, green card marriage/mail order bride/blah blah blah." One foreign girl, another foreign girl, whatever, just a pity he'll have to start over and will lose the filing fee, right?
Of course, on some levels, this reinforces the basic truth that marriage is a contractual arrangement. Any other import you place on the commitment comes from your personal, religious, or cultural upbringing and beliefs. But - as sort-of emphasized by the government's gracious 90 window to have a wedding to celebrate the love you had to prove on paper was a bona fide relationship - this is a transaction and as such, can fail, be renegotiated, or entered into with basically any available party anywhere.
Someone in another area of the board posted about frustrations with "mail order bride" services and was promptly jumped all over. I won't get into that post - but the thought of people like this man, who lets a fiance go (dude, whether he meant it or not, he posted it, all we have to go off of are his words, and he seems unrepentent) without much of a fight and consoles himself with the thought of finding a new date, make me ill. Mainly because he might take up more time in the queue from a deserving, loving, pair-bonded couple with an actual intention of marrying no matter what the cost or the challenges.
That guy is making all of us look bad and I, for one, don't appreciate it.

My fiance just went through something similar, but he had his I-94 because they never asked for it back when he left. I used this site, which also gives advice on what to do if you don't have the I-94. Best of luck!

I agree with Caladan.
I started modeling when I was 16, and the first and only thing it ever taught me was to cut out the pop. I replaced pop with water, and to this day (7 years later), I drink water religiously. Only other things I drink frequently are iced tea, and sometimes orange juice (only NOT from concentrate, and because it's great for my low blood sugar).
As far as eating, my mom has always made sure we take everything in moderation, and try to eat plenty of different types of food.
Each dinner should have a little of all the food groups (where possible). Meat, veggies, carbs, all in moderate portions.
All of us have guilty pleasures (mine is chocolate) that are hard to break, but sometimes, just when I want to reach for chocolate, I grab a peach instead.
My mom is going to be 48 this year and is frequently mistaken for much younger. She is 5'6", about 110 lbs., and very healthy.
Exercise is key, too. Find something, anything that you like and go to it! My mom has been going to the gym for 20 years. I can't do that, but I do love tennis, and the treadmill isn't so bad.
Diets are a joke. You can't just cut out one thing, and expect it to work magic.

You need to provide 2 of the 4 types of evidence (each with copies). Of course, I always feel the more evidence, the better.

Hope you have a safe journey, and have no problem securing a great apartment!

For me:
LOST
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
24
SURVIVOR
AMAZING RACE
HEROES
DANCING WITH THE STARS
UGLY BETTY
PROBABLY SOME OTHER POPULAR SHOWS THAT I'VE NEVER HEARD OF OR DON'T KNOW TO BE POPULAR
Add:
Sopranos
CSI's (I've seen bits and pieces)
Heroes
I used to live for House, but have been slacking majorly since season 2 even.
I'm in the UK at the moment, so I live for ABC Family... cause I'm cool, of course.

Good luck on the medical (as if luck has anything to do with it
). You are so close now.
My fiance just booked his for March 2nd. Wooo Hooooo.

They seem to go through NVC pretty quick, but I don't want to jinx it. Some people get stuck there for ages, although apparently that is due to name check issues. I think most people sail through.
Best of luck!

in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas

Hi all,
Quick question. I know I've seen this a few times on VJ, but I'm not sure if things have changed since the dates on any of those posts (immigration seems to get tougher and tougher). I'm a USC and my fiance is here on his K1. His 1-94 expires tomorrow, so we are really cutting it close as far as decisions go. Due to personal reasons, we have not yet married (we did get our marriage license, however), and are not positive that this is the right decision. We don't want to break up, we just seem to be one of those couples who has hit some bumps and needs a bit more time.
I've read that people have outstayed their 90 days, gotten married during the overstay and just filed a I-130 instead. Am I correct in thinking the overstay is usually overlooked with a successful AOS? I know if he ends up going home, that his VWP will likely be void, but I think it would be if we got married and divorced as well; maybe it would not be void, but I'm sure they would not look upon that favorably.
If he were to go home and we wanted to refile the K1, would it be difficult for us to get it because we had one and did not use it? It's an idea, but I'd like to see what other options are available first. Not only would we have to go through this process again, but it's difficult to work on a relationship when you're 4,000 miles apart.
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on the situation.
