  1. Hi All,
Thanks for bearing with my questions.

My husband went last week to apply for a social security card. They said he'd get one in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, what do we write on Questions 9a of the I-765: Has the Social Security Administration every officially issued you a Social Security card? We haven't gotten one yet but it seems he will.
Also, for 9c, does he want the SSA to issue  a Social Security card?
Confused because we don't want to double up.

    Thanks!

    Ann

  2. Hi All,

My husband (from Spain) and I got married two weeks ago after his entry on a K1! So awesome. It took 11 months but we are so happy.

He has not changed his name, but I took part of his name (his full Spanish last name is super long) when we filed the license.

However, I still haven't done all the things I need to do, like get a new license, get new credit cards, etc. So pretty much everything is in my old name.

Also, the marriage bureau in NYC wouldn't let us change our name to what we wanted (another variation of his name but the order is changed) so I may go in the summer and at least change mine to what we had originally wanted. We are thinking he'll just keep his name (it's a variation of his), as we don't want to mess anything up with USCIS.

    My question is:

What do we put for me, the U.S. citizen, on the I-485? My original name or the changed name?

Does is matter? Should we put my original so it's clear he didn't marry someone else?
    Thanks,

    Ann

  3. We got our NOA2 approval on November 21 and also nothing from NVC. I called again today (after calling both NVC and USCIS last week) and finally the woman admitted that they've been "hearing about a lot of November cases that are missing." Very concerning. I'm hoping I get something soon. How long until we really need to worry?

Also, I'm so sad because we already had a save-the-date (email) card made for March...but now that's looking unlikely.

And we are going on 9 months total and it's not even in Spain...

My main concern is expiration on interview date, for me it says we must do our interview by march 9th. What happens if they take too long to get it to the consulate and the interview cant be scheduled before that date? Can an extension be filed because it took longer on there end?

I'm confused...do where does it say you have an expiration date for the interview?

  5. Hi All,

Thanks for being such a good resource for my fiancé and me! After nearly seven months and two RFE's, we got our NOA2 (approval!) on 11/20. He's from Spain and now we're wondering what the likely duration of time will be between now and his getting an interview (we think he has all the documents we need for it), and then getting in the country.

I know there is a timeline on this site, and it's been helpful, but it also seems that everything lately has been taking WAY longer than normal.

We are really hoping to book a place for a small wedding in early March or April, but I'm afraid that might be cutting it close!

So anyone who recently had a fiancé arrive (in the last few months), what was your duration of time from NOA2 to your fiancé arriving in the country?

I'm especially interested in those coming from Spain!

    Thank you!

    Ann

  6. First RFE was because I didn't check a few boxes, and to prove that Ok Cupid isn't an international marriage broker. I checked the boxes and printed out the site's terms and services. I also wrote a cover letter related to all these.

I have no idea what I could have done wrong with that to warrant a second R.F.E....I know I have to wait, but it's really frustrating to see all these people whose whole process took 5 months start to finish, and we are looking at the possibility of up to a year.....

If we had known, we would have just gotten married in the early summer so that he'd be in the process of getting his green card by now.....

  7. My fiancé and I have still not gotten NOA2, despite an NOA1 date of April 26. We did get an RFE over a month ago, and we received notice that our response was received on September 25.

Yesterday (October 24), I got an email saying we are being sent ANOTHER R.F.E.

I'm so upset as back in April, we thought he'd be here by Christmas and New Year's, and then we pushed it back to thinking February because it's taken so long.... and now it seems it might be as far away as March (almost a year later).

Has anyone gotten an R.F.E. and what was it for the second time?

Secondly, does a decision after a second R.F.E. go faster than the time after a first? Or should I expect to wait another four weeks to hear about NOA2?

I'm starting to panic and think that I'll have to go to Spain, get married, and start the process all over again with a CR1. We were really hoping to start to try for a baby in the spring :/

  8. HI All,

My fiancé and I are hoping, assuming all goes well from this point on, that he will be in the country sometime between November and late January (we got an RFE a week ago but I sent it right back and got an email two days later saying it'd been received).

He and I will get married here once he arrives, obviously, but we were hoping to travel and maybe even have a wedding party in Spain next summer and/or at Christmas.

Therefore, does anyone know the approximate duration of time it's taking for Spanish citizens to get AOS once marriage has taken place and the application has been submitted?

Also, we have heard various things about the likelihood of his being able to travel. One Peruvian friend who just got her permanent green card and has been here for years said he'd have no problems getting Advance Parole. Another British friend said it's very likely he WON"T get AP since he's never lived here before.

I'm mostly just wondering whether we'll be able to plan any international trips after he arrives. We both love to travel!

  9. Hi All,

I've been lurking around here for awhile but now have questions that I've seen varying answers to on this site.

My Spanish fiancé and I met on OKCupid.  I got an RFE for my fiancé requesting we document his release of info to the site or proof that it's not an international marriage broker (IMB). Most people here say that it's not an IMB and I can include something about the terms of service, but nothing in the terms of service say it's not.

Also, some wrote that if you paid for services on the site, then it is. I had a paid subscription (as a woman it helps to prevent some harassment) though my fiancé had the free subscription and also contacted me first.

So my question is how do I prove that it's not an IMB? I contacted OkCUpid but their site says they can't guarantee a reply!

    Help!

    And thanks!

    Ann
